Campgrounds near Newport, Arkansas
Newport sits in northeast Arkansas at the confluence of the White and Black Rivers, an area shaped by river bottomland, farmland, and the eastern edge of the Ozark foothills. The city works well as an RV base for river-focused camping, fishing trips, and short drives to Jonesboro, Batesville, and Memphis.
The closest option is Jacksonport State Park, a small Arkansas State Parks campground on the White River just north of town with 20 Class A sites (water and 50-amp electric), a dump station near the exit, a swimming beach, and a restored 1872 courthouse museum. Rock Town RV Campground in Sulphur Rock offers full-hookup sites, and Shady Oaks RV and Mobile Home Park provides straightforward long or short-term RV parking closer to town.
For a larger lakeside stay, Lake Charles State Park sits about an hour north near Powhatan on a 645-acre fishing lake with around 55 to 60 sites split between Class AAA full-hookup and Class B water-and-electric loops. The Ranch RV Park rounds out the local mix for travelers who want basic hookups near Newport.
Things to do near Newport
River recreation drives most trips. The White and Black Rivers support bass, catfish, crappie, and bream fishing, and Jacksonport State Park has a boat ramp, swimming beach, and the half-mile Tunstall Riverwalk trail. The park's visitor center and restored 1872 courthouse museum cover steamboat-era and Civil War history, with free admission.
At Lake Charles State Park, the 645-acre spring-fed lake holds bass, crappie, bream, and catfish, and the park has four hiking trails, a fishing pier, a swimming beach, and kayak and canoe rentals. Park staff run interpretive programs including party barge lake tours and guided kayak paddles in the warmer months.
Off the water, day trips reach downtown Newport shops and restaurants, Jonesboro attractions less than an hour away, and Ozark scenic drives to the north.

Spring runs warm and wet. March through May brings frequent rain, rising rivers, and the region's strongest severe-weather risk, including thunderstorms and occasional tornadoes. Campsites are generally available, though river-adjacent sites at Jacksonport State Park can be affected by high water after heavy rain.
Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon highs regularly around 90 degrees Fahrenheit and heat indices higher. It is peak season at Lake Charles State Park, so Class AAA lakeside sites book earliest, and swimming beaches, boating, and fishing draw the most visitors. Book weekends well ahead.
Fall is the most comfortable stretch for RV travel: mild days, lower humidity, and reliable fishing on both rivers and lakes. Winter is cool rather than harsh, but restrooms at Jacksonport State Park are only open March through November, and visitor centers at both parks shift to reduced off-season hours from December through February. The campgrounds themselves stay open year-round.
How to book campgrounds near Newport
Jacksonport State Park and Lake Charles State Park are both operated by Arkansas State Parks and use the agency's central reservation system at reserve.arkansasstateparks.com. Reservations can also be made by phone through the individual park offices. Summer weekends and holidays should be booked several weeks out.
Private parks handle their own bookings. Rock Town RV Campground takes reservations directly through its website or by phone. Shady Oaks RV and Mobile Home Park and The Ranch RV Park generally accept phone reservations, and both cater to short stays as well as longer monthly setups.
Check length limits before booking a large rig. Lake Charles State Park accommodates RVs up to 60 feet, while Jacksonport State Park has a shorter limit closer to 45 feet, and some pads at both parks are tighter than the posted maximum.
What to expect on the ground
State park sites in this region are level with picnic table, fire ring, and grill, plus water and either 30-amp or 50-amp electric. Full-hookup sewer connections are limited to the Class AAA loop at Lake Charles State Park; Jacksonport State Park uses a central dump station near the park exit rather than sewer at each site.
Access roads to Lake Charles State Park are narrow rural roads, so large rigs should plan the approach carefully and take it slow through Powhatan. Cell coverage in the river bottoms and around the lake can be spotty depending on carrier.
Expect a mix of sun and shade at Jacksonport sites (some back directly onto the White River), less shade on the lakefront sites at Lake Charles, and standard gravel or paved pads at the private parks around Newport. Pets are welcome at the state parks; confirm pet policies with private parks at booking.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Newport%2C%20ArkansasWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Newport, Arkansas?
Great news for first-timers: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Newport, Arkansas. Arkansas does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for personal motorhomes or trailers, even the big Class A coaches. You'll just need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the platform during booking. Visiting from another country? An International Driving Permit (IDP) paired with your home license works perfectly. Most renters are surprised how simple the paperwork is, so you can focus on planning stops along Rock 'N Roll Highway 67 instead of wrestling with bureaucracy.
dfa.arkansas.gov/driver-services/Is RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included in Newport?
Yes, every RVezy booking in Newport automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 67 with confidence. The protection plan covers accidental damage to the RV, and you choose your coverage level at checkout, not the host. While it is not traditional auto insurance, it provides real financial peace of mind for your trip. If you get a flat near the White River or run into battery trouble at Jacksonport State Park, one call gets help dispatched any hour of the day. Pro tip: choose a higher-tier plan for longer trips to lower your out-of-pocket responsibility if something goes wrong.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Newport RV trip plans change?
RVezy sets the cancellation policy centrally, so the rules are consistent no matter which Newport RV you book. Every reservation includes a grace-period cancellation window after booking where you can receive a full refund, and additional refund tiers apply based on how far in advance you cancel before your trip start date. The cancellation policy is not displayed on individual host listings because it is handled by RVezy, and if a host cancels on you, RVezy will refund you or provide travel credits. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best motorhome rental Newport options, knowing the platform-wide policy gives you predictable flexibility if life gets in the way.

Absolutely, plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental Newport options, you just need to apply the Pet-Friendly filter when searching on RVezy. Many owners welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) with a small pet fee that's clearly listed on the booking page. Once you're rolling, Newport is a dog-lover's dream: Jacksonport State Park allows leashed pets on trails and campsites, and Lockwood Park's walking trail around Newport Lake is perfect for morning strolls. Both Remmel Park and the riverfront at the White River give pups plenty of room to sniff. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet details and ask about nearby vet clinics, like Newport Animal Clinic on Malcolm Avenue.
arkansasstateparks.com/parks/jacksonport-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campground or property in Newport?
Yes, RV delivery Newport is one of the easiest ways to start your trip stress-free. Many RVezy hosts will drive the rig to Jacksonport State Park, your private cabin, a family member's driveway in Diaz or Tuckerman, or your favorite fishing spot along the White River, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system. Delivery fees are usually based on round-trip mileage and are shown on the listing. This option is especially popular for first-timers who would rather skip towing a fifth wheel down Highway 367. Pro tip: use the Delivery filter on RVezy and ask if the host includes generator hookup or full setup of the awning and outdoor mat.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106554-Delivery-options-explainedHow does mileage work, and can I get an RV rental with unlimited mileage in Newport?
Most Newport hosts include a generous daily mileage allowance (typically 100 to 150 free miles per day), and some offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for longer adventures. Any extra miles beyond the included amount are charged at a small per-mile fee shown right on the listing. For perspective, Newport sits roughly 90 miles from Little Rock, 85 miles from Memphis, 60 miles from Jonesboro, and 150 miles from Hot Springs, so most regional trips fit comfortably within a standard allowance. Pro tip: if you're planning a big Ozarks loop through Mountain View and Buffalo National River, filter for unlimited-mileage listings or negotiate a higher cap with the host before booking.

Summer (June to August) brings heat in the upper 80s to mid-90s with high humidity, great for swimming at Jacksonport's White River beach but tough without strong AC. Winters are mild, with highs in the 50s and occasional freezes, making it surprisingly viable for off-season trips. Pro tip: time your visit for Depot Days Festival in September to catch live music celebrating Newport's Rock 'N Roll Highway 67 heritage, it's free and lights up downtown.
weather.gov/lzk/I've never rented an RV before, how does the pickup and orientation work?
First time renting an RV? They'll answer every question, no matter how basic, and most provide a printed cheat-sheet for the road. You can also message your host any time during your trip if a switch confuses you. For an extra confidence boost in Newport's flat Delta terrain, your first drive on Highway 67 between Newport and Tuckerman is straight, low-traffic, and an ideal practice run. Pro tip: ask the host for a quick video walkthrough before pickup day so you arrive familiar with the layout.
dfa.arkansas.gov/driver-services/What happens if I break down or have a problem during my trip?

If something more serious comes up, RVezy's support team is available before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number to your phone before you leave the driveway, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate, it speeds dispatch if you're parked at a remote spot like the Lower White River boat ramp.

eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Newport?
