Camping near Rockport, Arkansas
Rockport sits along the Ouachita River in Hot Spring County, roughly midway between Little Rock and Hot Springs on Interstate 30. The location puts RV travelers within a short drive of Lake Catherine, Lake Hamilton, Hot Springs National Park, and the Ouachita Mountains, making it a practical base for a multi-day trip.
Campground options in the area range from state-park sites to full-service private resorts. Lake Catherine State Park sits directly on the 1,940-acre lake formed by a dam on the Ouachita River, with 47 full-hookup Class AAA sites and 23 Class B sites with water and 30-amp electric. Catherine's Landing spans several hundred acres along Lake Catherine and offers concrete pads with 30, 50, and 100-amp service.
Closer to Interstate 30, JBs RV Park and Campground offers full hookups and easy highway access. Cloud Nine RV Park LLC provides another nearby option, and Hot Springs Off-Road Park adds RV sites, cabins, and tent camping alongside a large off-road trail system for travelers bringing 4x4s, UTVs, or dirt bikes.
Things to do near Rockport
Water activities dominate the local calendar. Lake Catherine State Park has a swim beach, launch ramp, and a seasonal marina that operates mid-March through October for bait, fuel, and snacks. Anglers target bass, bream, and catfish on both Lake Catherine and nearby Lake Hamilton. The park's hiking network includes the Falls Branch Trail, which leads to a waterfall.
Downtown Hot Springs is about 20 minutes away, where visitors can tour Bathhouse Row inside Hot Springs National Park, ride Magic Springs in season, or walk Garvan Woodland Gardens. Off-road enthusiasts head to Hot Springs Off-Road Park for its Jeep Badge of Honor trails, and Catherine's Landing runs an on-site zipline and aerial adventure course.

Peak season at Lake Catherine State Park runs Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, when Arkansas summers push daytime temperatures into the low 90s Fahrenheit and lake swimming becomes the main draw. Weekend and holiday sites book fastest during this window, and the state park applies minimum-stay requirements on weekends and holiday weekends.
Spring brings the wettest stretch of the year, with May typically among the rainiest months. Storms and severe weather are possible March through May, and low-lying sites can turn soggy after heavy rain. Wildflowers and moderate temperatures make it a strong shoulder season for hiking.
Fall cools quickly through October and November, with foliage color across the Ouachita Mountains and thinner campground crowds. Lake Catherine State Park's campground, cabins, and yurt stay open year-round, though the marina closes out of season and restrooms operate March through November while bathhouses remain open. Winters are short and cool with occasional cold snaps.

How to book a campsite
Lake Catherine State Park reservations go through the Arkansas State Parks system online or by phone, with bookings available up to one year in advance. Holiday weekends and waterfront Class AAA sites book earliest, so reserving well ahead is recommended. A non-refundable deposit equal to the first night applies, and both check-in and check-out are set at 3:00 p.m.
Private parks use their own systems. Catherine's Landing, JBs RV Park and Campground, and Cloud Nine RV Park LLC each take reservations directly through their websites or by phone. Hot Springs Off-Road Park also books RV sites, tent spots, and cabins through its own site. For holiday weekends, private resorts in the area commonly apply minimum-stay requirements, so confirm terms before booking.
What to expect on arrival
Sites at Lake Catherine State Park include picnic tables and fire rings, with many pads directly on the lakeshore. Occupancy is capped at eight people per site, and camping units are limited to one RV plus one tent or two tents. Quiet hours are enforced overnight.
Private resorts in the area lean toward paved or concrete pads, full hookups, and family amenities. Catherine's Landing accommodates large rigs and offers a pool, splash pad, catch-and-release pond, and seasonal kayak, canoe, and pontoon rentals.
Cell coverage is generally reliable near Interstate 30 and thinner deeper into the Ouachita foothills. Ticks and chiggers are common in warm months, and afternoon thunderstorms can develop quickly in spring and summer, so leveling on well-drained sites matters.

Message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees, and bring a tie-out and an extra towel for muddy Ouachita riverbank adventures.

Yes, and it's one of the smartest ways to do a first Arkansas trip. They'll level it, hook up water and 30/50-amp power, and walk you through everything from the awning to the water heater. To find these listings, use the Delivery filter, then message the host with your campsite number. Delivery is also a lifesaver if you're flying into Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock, roughly 65 miles northeast, and don't want to tow.

nps.gov/hosp/planyourvisit/directions.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Rockport for an RV trip?
You're spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Rockport include Lake Catherine State Park (about 12 miles north), with lakeside sites and Class AAA full-hookup options; DeGray Lake Resort State Park near Bismarck (about 20 miles west), Arkansas's only resort state park, with a marina and over 100 sites; the US Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds ringing DeGray Lake like Shouse Ford, Edgewood, and Iron Mountain; and Catherine's Landing, a private resort on Lake Catherine with 30/50-amp service. For RV camping Rockport visitors love, book the lakeshore loops at Lake Catherine first, they fill quickly in summer.
arkansasstateparks.com/parks/lake-catherine-state-parkWhen is the best time to rent an RV in Rockport, AR?
Rockport is a three-season sweet spot. Spring (March to May) brings highs of 65 to 80 F and wildflowers along the Ouachita River. Fall (late September to early November) is arguably the best time for an RV trip, with crisp 55 to 75 F days, glowing hardwood color in the Ouachita Mountains, and thinner campground crowds. Summer (June to August) is hot and humid with highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s F, perfect for lake swimming at Lake Catherine. Winter is mild (35 to 55 F) with eagle-watching tours at DeGray Lake from December through February, a true insider season for RV camping in Rockport.
weather.gov/lzk/I've never driven an RV before. How does that work in Rockport?
First time renting an RV? You're going to be fine, and Rockport is actually a great place to learn. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup covering driving, hookups, propane, slide-outs, and dumping tanks, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every booking. Rockport sits right off Interstate 30 at Exit 98, with wide lanes and gentle terrain, so your first few miles are stress-free. If you'd rather skip the drive entirely, choose a host offering delivery and setup directly to Lake Catherine State Park. Pro tip: take a slow loop through the Walmart lot in nearby Malvern to practice turns before heading up Scenic Byway 7.
arkansashighways.com/What happens if something goes wrong with the RV on my trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering flat tires, lockouts, battery jumps, fuel delivery, and towing if needed. Your host is also just a message away through the RVezy app and is usually the fastest person to walk you through quirks like a finicky water pump or a tripped breaker. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Save your host's phone number and the Lake Catherine State Park office number on your phone before leaving Rockport, as cell service can dip on the back roads off Highway 171.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trip routes from Rockport, AR?
Rockport is a launchpad for some incredible drives. A few favorite RV road trips from Rockport: head about 25 miles northwest to Hot Springs National Park for thermal springs and Bathhouse Row; cruise Scenic Byway 7 up to Lake Ouachita for a classic Ouachita Mountains RV trip; drive about 95 miles northwest to Petit Jean State Park for Cedar Falls; or roll about 175 miles north to the Buffalo National River. Cross-state travel into Texas or Oklahoma is allowed and easy via I-30. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance, so keep your road trip stateside.
arkansas.com/things-to-do/outdoors-adventure/scenic-drivesWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I expect?
Plan smart and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes around 8 to 12 mpg, Class A coaches 6 to 10 mpg, and a truck towing a travel trailer roughly 9 to 13 mpg. Arkansas gas prices tend to run below the national average, and there are easy fill-ups in Malvern (right next to Rockport), at I-30 Exit 98, and along Highway 270 toward Hot Springs. For a typical 3-night Rockport RV trip with side trips to Hot Springs and DeGray Lake, budget around $90 to $160 in fuel for a Class C. Top off in Malvern before heading up Scenic Byway 7.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Rockport?
Earlier is better, but you've got options. Arkansas State Parks like Lake Catherine and DeGray Lake Resort accept reservations up to 13 months in advance through the Arkansas State Parks reservation system, and summer weekends, Memorial Day, July 4, and fall foliage weekends in October book out months ahead. For Army Corps of Engineers sites around DeGray Lake (Shouse Ford, Edgewood, Iron Mountain), use Recreation.gov, bookable up to 6 months out. If your dates are tight, look at the Class B (water and electric) loops at Lake Catherine, which fill slightly slower than the full-hookup Class AAA sites, and you'll still wake up to a lakefront view.
arkansasstateparks.com/parks/lake-catherine-state-parkWhat are driving conditions like around Rockport?
Driving around Rockport is genuinely easy. Interstate 30 cuts right through town at Exit 98, with wide shoulders and gentle grades, and U.S. 270 toward Hot Springs is a smooth four-lane. Once you head up Arkansas Scenic Byway 7 into the Ouachita Mountains, expect gradual climbs and a few curves, nothing scary for a first-time motorhome driver, but worth slowing down for. Summer thunderstorms can pop up quickly between June and August, and brief icy patches are possible on bridges in January. Local tip: check the Arkansas Department of Transportation's IDriveArkansas site for real-time road conditions before you set out, especially after heavy rain along the Ouachita River.
idrivearkansas.com/What amenities do campgrounds near Rockport offer?
Local campgrounds are well-equipped for any RV rental in Rockport. Lake Catherine State Park offers Class AAA full-hookup sites (water, sewer, 30/50-amp), Class B water and electric sites, hot showers, a dump station, a marina, and a swim beach. DeGray Lake Resort State Park provides full-hookup AAA sites plus water and electric sites, bathhouses, and a dump station. Army Corps sites around DeGray Lake have electric and water hookups with central dump stations. For potable water and dumping mid-trip, Malvern's RV-friendly stations are just minutes from Rockport. Fill fresh water before leaving the host since the Ouachita River is gorgeous but not for drinking.
arkansasstateparks.com/parks/degray-lake-resort-state-parkWhat features and amenities can I expect inside an RVezy rental?
Most rentals come ready to roll. Expect a real bed (queen or king in larger rigs), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control, dinette seating with seatbelts for travel, and exterior awnings. Many Rockport-area Class C and travel trailer listings also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, and onboard generator for boondocking near the Ouachita. Wi-Fi is hit-or-miss in the Ouachita Mountains, so a mobile hotspot helps. Tip: filter by Sleeps count and Instant Book on RVezy to quickly match a family RV trip Rockport setup, then message the host to confirm linens, kitchenware, and outdoor chairs are included.
arkansasstateparks.com/What add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
RVezy hosts in Rockport offer a flexible menu of add-ons to make your trip smoother. Popular extras include bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, generators, bike racks, propane refills, and portable Wi-Fi hotspots. Pickup is usually at the host's address near Rockport or Malvern (just minutes from I-30 Exit 98), or you can choose Delivery for a flat fee per mile. Mileage policies vary by host, often 100 to 150 free miles per night with reasonable per-mile rates beyond that. Ask about a generator add-on if you're heading to a Corps of Engineers electric-only site at DeGray Lake.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/149How do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy's platform with a credit or debit card at booking, never directly to the host, which keeps everything tracked and protected. A refundable security deposit is held on your card before pickup (amount varies by listing) and is released after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back in the same condition. To avoid any issues with your Rockport RV rental, do a walkaround video at pickup and dropoff, follow the mileage and generator-hours policy listed on the booking, and return the RV with the fuel and propane levels noted in your agreement.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I legally park an RV overnight near Rockport?
You've got plenty of legal options for where to park an RV in Rockport. Best bets are designated campgrounds: Lake Catherine State Park, DeGray Lake Resort State Park, the Army Corps of Engineers parks around DeGray Lake, and private resorts like Catherine's Landing. Overnight parking on Rockport residential streets, in unmarked city lots, or at trailheads is generally not allowed. Many travelers also use Harvest Hosts spots at nearby Arkansas wineries and farms. The Malvern Walmart on Highway 270 has historically allowed one-night RV stays, but call ahead to confirm before relying on it.
