Campgrounds near Star City, Arkansas
Star City sits in Lincoln County in southeast Arkansas, where the West Gulf Coastal Plain meets the Mississippi Delta. The town works as a practical base for RV trips built around south Arkansas lakes, bayous, and pine forests, with most named campgrounds within an hour or two of the city center.
The closest full-service state park option in the region is Moro Bay State Park, which sits at the confluence of Raymond Lake and the Ouachita River in Bradley County and provides 23 Class AAA campsites with water, 50-amp electric, and sewer hookups on 60-foot pads designed for larger RVs and trailers. Farther east near Lake Village, Lake Chicot State Park offers 122 campsites for tents and RVs plus 14 cabins with lake views, with some sites offering full hookups and others partial water and electric.
Private options round out the mix. Pecan Grove RV Park and H and G RV Park and Campground provide additional serviced sites in the greater Star City area, and Oak Forest Village Mobile Home Park caters to travelers seeking longer-term accommodations.
Things to do near Star City
Water recreation drives most trips. Raymond Lake and the Ouachita River are among the more popular fishing and water sports areas in south Arkansas, with outdoor activities including boating, kayaking, fishing, swimming, biking, hiking, and wildlife viewing. Anglers target bass, crappie, catfish, and bream on both the Ouachita system and Lake Chicot, which is stocked with Florida-strain largemouth bass.
Birders should plan around the Mississippi Flyway. Lake Chicot State Park sits within one of the largest flyways in the country, making it a strong destination for birdwatching year-round.
At the state parks, boat, kayak, and bicycle rentals are available from the visitor centers, and interpretive programs run through the warm months. Nearby Bayou Bartholomew and the pine and hardwood trails in the surrounding coastal plain add paddling and hiking options.

Southeast Arkansas has a humid subtropical climate with strong seasonal contrasts. Summers are hot and muggy, winters are short and cold, and the area is wet overall with high annual precipitation spread fairly evenly through the year. Heavy downpours and afternoon thunderstorms are common in the warmer months. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel.
Most state parks in the area operate year-round. Moro Bay State Park identifies March through November as its peak season, with off-peak running December through February on a reduced weekday and afternoon weekend schedule. Lake Chicot State Park stays open year-round, with prime fishing typically starting earlier in spring than on other major Arkansas lakes because of its southern latitude.
Summer brings heat, humidity, and biting insects, especially near bayous and lake edges. Winter is the quietest season, with cool days, occasional freezes, and mostly bare trees, and it can be a rewarding time for lakeside stays and birding when crowds thin out.
How to book a campsite
State park sites in the region are handled through a single central system. Reservations are available at reserve.arkansasstateparks.com or by calling 888-287-2757. The window is generous: Arkansas State Parks open camping reservations up to 365 days in advance, and popular lake-view and full-hookup sites at Moro Bay and Lake Chicot go early for spring and summer weekends. Weekend stays require a two-night minimum, and three-day holiday weekends require three nights.
For Lake Chicot specifically, a full-hookup site with a water view is worth booking well ahead. Private parks such as Pecan Grove RV Park and H and G RV Park and Campground are typically booked directly with the property by phone or through their listed online pages. Ask about pull-through length and 50-amp availability if traveling in a larger rig.
What to expect on-site
State park campgrounds in this part of Arkansas are modern but modest in scale. At Moro Bay, each of the 23 sites has 50-amp full hookups, a table, fire ring, grate, and paved parking pad, with shade and lake views at most sites, plus drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers, trash collection, and a dump station. Sites are lakeside and layouts are open, so expect limited screening between neighbors.
Lake Chicot is larger and more amenity-rich. The campground sits next to the lake in a wooded setting of wild pecans and cypress trees, with park facilities that include a store, marina with boat rentals, bait shop, fish cleaning station, seasonal swimming pool, boat dock, launch ramp, fishing pier, picnic areas, and a visitor center. Private RV parks around Star City lean toward level pull-throughs with water and electric, often sewer, plus basic laundry. Big-rig travelers should confirm site length before arrival.
