Campgrounds and RV parks near La Crescenta-Montrose, CA

The Angeles Crest Highway (CA-2) climbs from La Cañada Flintridge into the San Gabriel Mountains and is the main scenic route out of the area, with trailheads, picnic areas, and viewpoints spaced along the ridge. Angeles National Forest holds hundreds of miles of trails, including a segment of the Pacific Crest Trail, so day hikes slot easily into an RV trip. Anglers can drive to Pyramid Lake, Littlerock Reservoir, or Castaic Lake for trout, catfish, and bass. South of the foothills, Griffith Observatory, the Rose Bowl area, and the coastal communities are all within a day-trip radius. The Verdugo Mountains Open Space Preserve sits closer in for shorter hikes and mountain biking.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in this area. Daytime highs in the foothills sit in the low 70s Fahrenheit through April and May, with light rain tapering off after March, and similar conditions return in October and early November before winter storms arrive. Summers are warm to hot, arid, and clear, while winters are cool, wet, and partly cloudy, which translates to hot, dry days at lower elevations and the chance of overnight freezes in the upper forest from December through February. Fire restrictions shape the summer and early fall calendar. During high fire-danger periods, the Angeles National Forest commonly bans open campfires and portable stoves outside developed campgrounds, so plan meals accordingly. Winter brings most of the year's precipitation to the foothills, and seasonal gates and snow can close portions of the Angeles Crest Highway above Clear Creek, which limits access to some higher campgrounds. Check road and fire status with the forest before any trip into the mountains.

Expect a mix of urban-edge RV parks and rustic forest campgrounds. Private resorts in the area typically offer full hookups, paved or gravel pads, laundry, and Wi-Fi, with Soledad Canyon RV and Camping Resort adding pools, a spa, sports courts, and a country store across a 266-acre property. Forest campgrounds are more basic, with vault toilets, paved spurs, fire pits, and limited potable water. RV size matters at the higher elevations, where some campgrounds limit rigs to shorter lengths and access roads are winding. Cell coverage drops off quickly once you leave the I-210 corridor, and the forest enforces strict campfire rules and encourages bear-aware food storage.
