Campgrounds and RV parks near Westmont, CA

Most trips from Westmont center on the coast and the city. Long Beach is a quick drive on the 710, with the Aquarium of the Pacific, the Queen Mary, and Shoreline Village all close to Golden Shore RV Resort. A free Long Beach Transit Runabout runs right outside that park to the Convention Center, Shoreline Village, Pine Avenue, and the Queen Mary, which makes leaving the RV easy. Surf, fishing, and beach cycling cluster around Bolsa Chica State Beach, where a paved multi-use trail connects the campground to Huntington State Beach. From Hollywood RV Park in Van Nuys, families typically hit Universal Studios, Griffith Observatory, and the Walk of Fame. Across the wider region, Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, and the Santa Monica Pier are all reachable as day trips.

Coastal Los Angeles County has a Mediterranean climate, which means RV travel is viable year-round but the experience changes meaningfully by season. Winter precipitation in Los Angeles surpasses that of summer, with the wettest stretch running from December through March and February typically the single wettest month. Storms tend to arrive in short bursts rather than long rainy spells, and beachfront sites can feel exposed when fronts move through. Spring is mild and breezy. Marine layer fog, locally called May Gray and June Gloom, often keeps mornings overcast at the coast before clearing by afternoon. Summer is the peak booking window. Coastal parks like Bolsa Chica State Beach and Golden Shore RV Resort fill quickly on weekends and holidays, and the six-month booking window on ReserveCalifornia is competitive for oceanfront sites. Fall is widely considered the sweet spot: warm, dry, and noticeably less crowded after Labor Day, though Santa Ana wind events in October and November can raise wildfire risk inland and trigger temporary closures in canyon and foothill areas farther from the coast.

Expect urban camping, not wilderness. Parks closest to Westmont sit inside the LA metro grid, so road noise, aircraft, and security lighting are part of the experience. Golden Shore RV Resort is flanked by the freeway and the Long Beach waterfront, so there is some background noise, while Hollywood RV Park is near Van Nuys Airport. Sites tend to be paved or compacted and level, with full or partial hookups at private resorts and water and electric only at state beach sites. Bolsa Chica State Beach has 57 RV campsites, each with water and electrical hookups, and generators are not permitted. Cell coverage is strong across the region, big-rig access is generally good on freeways, and grocery, fuel, and propane are never far from a site.
