Campgrounds near Palisade, Colorado
Palisade sits in western Colorado's Grand Valley along the Colorado River, surrounded by peach orchards, vineyards, and high desert mesas. The town is a short drive east of Grand Junction and serves as a practical base for reaching Colorado National Monument, Grand Mesa National Forest, and extensive BLM lands. Interstate 70 runs along the north side of town, keeping most campgrounds within easy reach of highway access.
RV renters have several options within a few miles of downtown. Palisade Basecamp RV Resort sits along the river within walking distance of wineries and orchards, while Island Acres - James M Robb-Colorado River State Park offers riverside state park camping just east of town at I-70 exit 47. Grand Junction KOA Holiday and RV Ranch at Grand Junction cover the metro area to the west, and Camp Eddy provides urban riverfront sites inside Las Colonias Park.
Elevations here run roughly 4,500 to 4,800 feet, low enough for year-round camping and milder shoulder seasons than the higher Colorado Rockies.
Things to do around Palisade
Wine tasting and orchard visits are the signature activities. More than twenty wineries operate within a short bicycle ride of town along the Fruit and Wine Byway, and Palisade peaches are typically harvested from mid to late summer, with cherries and other stone fruit earlier in the season.
Outdoor recreation surrounds the valley. The Colorado River supports fishing, paddling, and tubing, while the Palisade Rim Trail climbs the canyon wall for views over the vineyards. Colorado National Monument, west of Grand Junction, has canyon overlooks, hiking, and the scenic Rim Rock Drive. Grand Mesa, east of town, adds alpine lakes, forest hiking, and cross-country skiing in winter.
Downtown Palisade is compact and walkable, with tasting rooms, restaurants, and farm stands clustered within a few blocks.

The main camping season runs from spring through fall. Spring brings mild days, blossoming orchards, and rising river flows from mountain snowmelt, though nights can still dip near freezing into April. Late April and May are popular for cycling and wine touring before summer heat arrives.
Summer is peak season. Daytime highs in July and August routinely reach the low to mid 90s Fahrenheit, and riverfront sites, shaded loops, and swim beaches fill quickly on weekends. The peach harvest drives strong demand from midsummer through August, with festival weekends booking months ahead. Afternoon thunderstorms are possible but usually brief, and August is one of the wetter months.
Fall is often the sweet spot for RV renters: warm days, cool nights, harvest activity, and lighter crowds after Labor Day. Winter camping is possible at lower-elevation parks in the valley, but expect freezing nights, occasional snow, and reduced services at some private resorts.

This camper was awesome just what we were looking for . The space was nice for only three people but a good amount of room to visit with friends and get out of the rain. The best part was Jessica delivered the camper exactly where we wanted. Jessica and Mike are very nice people to work with and will use them again if they will have us. Thank you.
LaDonna L. - Jul 2026
Excellent RV hosts. Provided excellent communication and also explained the operating of the RV in detail. Would definitely use them again. Thanks Mike!

How to book campgrounds near Palisade
Colorado state park sites, including Island Acres - James M Robb-Colorado River State Park, are reserved through the Colorado Parks and Wildlife reservation system at CPWshop.com or by phone. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance, and all state park sites are reservation-only, so walk-up camping is not available. A daily vehicle pass or annual Keep Colorado Wild Pass is required in addition to the camping fee.
Private resorts such as Palisade Basecamp RV Resort, Grand Junction KOA Holiday, RV Ranch at Grand Junction, and Camp Eddy take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For summer weekends, harvest season, and festival dates, booking well in advance is recommended for full-hookup sites.
What to expect at Palisade campgrounds
Most RV parks in the valley offer full or partial hookups, level pull-through sites, laundry, showers, and dump stations. Island Acres has paved and gravel sites with picnic tables under metal shade shelters, electric hookups on many sites, flush toilets, hot showers, and a swim beach with stocked fishing ponds.
Expect open, high-desert scenery rather than dense forest. Shade is limited at some sites, so awnings and sunshades are useful in summer. Interstate 70 and the parallel rail line run close to the river, so highway and train noise is noticeable at riverside campgrounds east of town.
Cell service is generally reliable throughout the Grand Valley. Groceries, fuel, propane, and RV supplies are easy to find in Palisade, Clifton, and Grand Junction, and hospitals and urgent care are available in Grand Junction.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Palisade, CO?

On RVezy, you'll typically find travel trailers starting around $90 to $150 per night, campervans and Class C motorhomes in the $150 to $275 range, and larger Class A motorhomes from $250 to $400 per night. Booking midweek and traveling in the shoulder seasons (April or late October) is the easiest way to find a cheap RV rental Palisade travelers love. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Palisade,ColoradoWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Palisade?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Palisade, no special RV endorsement or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required in Colorado for personal-use motorhomes. You'll just need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy will confirm your ID right inside the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the United States? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home auto association before your trip and pair it with your home license. Most first-time renters are surprised how quick the approval is, often same-day so you can start planning your Palisade RV trip right away.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my Palisade RV rental protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RVezy booking in Palisade comes with a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance built in, so you can hit the Fruit and Wine Byway with real peace of mind. At checkout you choose the coverage level that fits your comfort, and the plan provides significant financial protection if a rock chips the windshield on I-70 or a bumper meets a low-hanging orchard branch. Coverage is set by RVezy, not the host. Pro tip: snap photos at pickup and drop-off so any pre-existing nicks are documented and you can relax into vacation mode.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Palisade RV rental?
Booking with confidence is easy: RVezy, not the host, sets the cancellation policy, and there is a full money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates without stress. Refund eligibility after that grace period depends on how far out you are from your trip. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds guests or provides travel credits. You'll see the exact terms before you confirm, and RVezy support is available before, during, and after your trip if plans shift. Pro tip: book early for peach harvest in August since Palisade fills up fast, then relax knowing you have flexibility if life happens.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Palisade RV trip?
Bring the pup, Palisade is genuinely dog country. Plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental Palisade options, and you can filter for Pet-Friendly right on RVezy to see them instantly. Palisade Basecamp RV Resort welcomes leashed pets, and the Riverbend Park trails along the Colorado River are made for morning walks. Many wineries on the Fruit and Wine Byway have leashed-dog-friendly patios. Pro tip: message the host before booking if you have a large breed or more than one dog so you can confirm any pet fee, then pack a collapsible water bowl, summer pavement gets toasty here.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Palisade,ColoradoCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Palisade?
Yes, RV delivery Palisade is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip the drive entirely. Many local hosts will deliver and set up the RV directly at Palisade Basecamp RV Resort, James M. Robb State Park (Island Acres section), or a private vineyard site, then walk you through everything from the awning to the water hookup before they leave. Delivery fees usually depend on distance from Grand Junction Regional Airport (about 12 miles west) or downtown Palisade. Pro tip: filter for Delivery on RVezy, then message the host with your campground name, you'll often save the headache of driving a big rig through narrow orchard roads.
cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/JamesMRobbColoradoRiverHow far can I drive on a Palisade RV trip, and how does mileage work?
You've got real range from Palisade. Each host sets their own mileage policy, and many list RV rental with unlimited mileage right in the listing, perfect for an RV road trip from Palisade. From here, Colorado National Monument is just 20 minutes, Grand Mesa National Forest is about an hour, Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is roughly 90 miles, Moab, Utah is 110 miles west on I-70, and Aspen is around 130 miles east. You'll see the included daily mileage and any per-mile overage right on the listing before you book. Pro tip: map your route first, then filter listings by mileage allowance so your wine country basecamp doesn't come with a surprise bill.
nps.gov/colm/index.htmWhere should I camp during my RV rental in Palisade?
You're spoiled for choice on where to park an RV in Palisade. Top picks include Palisade Basecamp RV Resort (full-hookup riverside sites with a heated pool, close to Colterris Winery), James M. Robb Colorado River State Park, Island Acres section (state park camping with shaded sites and a swim lake), and Junction West RV Park about 12 to 15 miles west in Grand Junction. For a true insider stay, some wineries participate in Harvest Hosts for overnight RV parking among the vines. Pro tip: book Palisade Basecamp 3 to 6 months ahead for peach season and harvest weekends, the riverfront sites go first.
cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/JamesMRobbColoradoRiverWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip to Palisade?
Palisade shines from April through October, with a mild four-season climate that's friendlier than most of Colorado. Spring (April-May) brings 65 to 75 degree days and blossoms across the orchards. Summer (June-August) heats up to the low 90s, perfect for floating the Colorado River, with cool 60-degree nights. Fall (September-October) is the local favorite: peach and grape harvest, vineyard color, and 70-degree afternoons. Winters are surprisingly mild for Colorado, with daytime highs in the 40s and many RV parks staying open year-round, ideal for snowbirds. Pro tip: aim for late September if you want harvest activities without the August Peach Festival crowds, the weather is unbeatable and reservations are easier.
weather.gov/gjt/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around Palisade?
Yes, Palisade is genuinely one of the easier places in Colorado for a first time renting an RV. Roads through town and along the Fruit and Wine Byway are flat, wide, and slow-paced, and I-70 between Grand Junction and Palisade is well-maintained four-lane highway. Every RVezy host gives you a full orientation at pickup, covering hookups, leveling, tanks, and driving tips, and you can message them with questions before you even book. If you'd rather skip driving altogether, choose a host who offers delivery and setup. Pro tip: start with a Class C motorhome or travel trailer under 25 feet, you'll find them easier to handle through Palisade's narrow vineyard lanes and orchard roads.
codot.gov/travelWhat if I have a breakdown or problem during my Palisade RV trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy rental in Palisade includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you're at a Grand Mesa pull-out or parked at a vineyard. Roadside covers the usual: flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, towing, and fuel delivery. Your host is also typically just minutes away and is your first call for RV-specific questions like a finicky water pump or an awning that won't retract. RVezy customer support backs up both. Pro tip: save the roadside number and your host's contact in your phone before leaving the pickup, cell service is solid in Palisade but spotty on Grand Mesa's back roads.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Palisade RV rental out of state or across the border?
Yes, and Palisade is a perfect launchpad. Most hosts allow interstate travel, and popular RV road trip from Palisade routes include Moab and Arches National Park (about 110 miles west), Bryce Canyon (around 5 hours), Zion National Park (about 6.5 hours), Rocky Mountain National Park (about 4.5 hours east), and Yellowstone (roughly 9 hours north). Confirm out-of-state travel with your host before booking since some prefer to know your route. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage don't extend there. Pro tip: I-70 west to Utah is one of the most scenic stretches in the country, build in an extra day to explore Rabbit Valley and the Colorado National Monument on your way.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and budget should I plan for in Palisade?
Plan smart and your wine country trip stays affordable. Most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), campervans and Class B's do better at 15 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 MPG). Gas prices in Palisade and nearby Grand Junction tend to run slightly below the Colorado state average, and you'll find easy fill-ups at the Maverik and Loaf 'N Jug on Highway 6 right at the I-70 exit. Pro tip: top off in Grand Junction before heading up Grand Mesa, prices climb fast once you're on Highway 65, and the climb itself burns extra fuel.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a Palisade campground?
For the smoothest Palisade RV trip, book your campground as soon as you book your RV. Palisade Basecamp RV Resort takes reservations directly on their website and fills 3 to 6 months ahead for August peach season and September-October harvest weekends. James M. Robb State Park (Island Acres) books through CPWShop.com on Colorado Parks and Wildlife's system and opens reservations 6 months in advance, the riverfront sites disappear within minutes for summer holidays. Midweek and shoulder season? You can often grab great sites just 2 to 3 weeks out. Pro tip: if Palisade is full, check Fruita or Grand Junction parks, you're still only 15 to 25 minutes from the vineyards.
cpw.state.co.us/buyapply/Pages/Camping.aspxWhat are the driving conditions like around Palisade?
Driving around Palisade is genuinely relaxed compared to most of Colorado: town streets are flat at 4,700 feet elevation, and I-70 is wide, modern, and well-plowed. The main things to watch are summer afternoon thunderstorms (which can drop visibility fast), strong crosswinds through DeBeque Canyon east of town, and the climb up Highway 65 to Grand Mesa which gains 6,000 feet, take it slow in a tall rig. Winter snow is lighter here than in the mountains but I-70 east toward Vail can close briefly during storms. Pro tip: check COtrip.org before any day trip, and avoid driving Grand Mesa in a Class A motorhome if you're new to RVs, the switchbacks are tight.
codot.gov/travel/colorado-road-conditionsWhat amenities do Palisade campgrounds offer for RVs?
You'll find solid hookups across the area's best campgrounds near Palisade. Palisade Basecamp offers 30 and 50 amp electric, full water and sewer at every site, a dump station, laundry, hot showers, a heated pool, and a camp store stocked with local wine. James M. Robb State Park, Island Acres section, provides electric hookups, potable water fill stations, a dump station, and vault and flush restrooms. Most Grand Valley parks within 15 miles have full hookups and Wi-Fi. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank before heading up to Grand Mesa or Colorado National Monument where dispersed sites have no hookups, and grab a Colorado Parks and Wildlife camping pass if you plan to bounce between state parks.
cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/JamesMRobbColoradoRiverWhat's included inside a typical Palisade RV rental?
More than you'd expect. Most motorhome rental Palisade listings come fully equipped with a real bed (often a queen), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and cookware, a bathroom with shower and toilet, air conditioning and a furnace, dining seating with seatbelts for travel, and house batteries with shore power. Many also include a TV, outdoor awning, camp chairs, and a generator for off-grid stays. Campervan rental Palisade options are more compact but typically include a bed, sink, mini-fridge, and portable toilet or wet bath. Pro tip: check the listing's amenity list for Wi-Fi hotspot and outdoor speaker, perfect for sipping a local Riesling at your campsite while the sun sets behind Mt. Garfield.
nps.gov/colm/planyourvisit/camping.htmWhat add-ons and pickup options are available for RVezy rentals in Palisade?
You can customize your Palisade rental like a hotel package. Common host add-ons include bike racks (great for the Palisade Plunge mountain bike trail), kitchen and linen kits, generators, propane refills, camp chairs, outdoor grills, and Wi-Fi hotspots, with prices varying by host. For pickup, you can meet at the host's location, arrange RV delivery to your campground, or in some cases coordinate pickup near Grand Junction Regional Airport (12 miles from downtown Palisade). Each listing clearly shows mileage allowance, generator hours, and any pet fee. Pro tip: ask about a paddleboard or kayak add-on, the Colorado River through Palisade is one of the most beginner-friendly stretches you'll find anywhere in the state.
gjcity.org/494/Grand-Junction-Regional-AirportHow do payments and the security deposit work on an RVezy rental in Palisade?
Booking is straightforward and secure. You pay through RVezy directly, no cash to the host, with a portion charged at booking and the balance before your trip starts. The refundable security deposit is separate from the booking payment and is authorized shortly before pickup, then released after the trip once the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid any deposit hiccups: do the walkaround video with your host at pickup, dump the tanks before returning (or pay the dump fee, which is cheaper than a cleaning charge), and refuel to the level shown at pickup. Pro tip: keep gas receipts from the Palisade Maverik just in case, and you'll get your full deposit back fast.
