Campgrounds and RV parks near Bear Creek, FL

Beach time is the main draw. Madeira Beach, Treasure Island, St. Pete Beach, and the wider Gulf shoreline are all within about 15 minutes by RV or toad. The Pinellas Trail, a paved multi-use path running up the peninsula, crosses through the Bear Creek area and is a good option for family bike rides. On the water, Boca Ciega Bay and Long Bayou are calm enough for kayaking and paddleboarding, with dolphins, herons, and egrets common sightings. Fort De Soto Park has seven miles of waterfront and a 2.25-mile designated paddle trail, with Shell Key and other offshore islands to explore. Park facilities include a small camp store, food stands, picnic areas, restrooms, a dog beach, a boat ramp, and two fishing piers. For rainy afternoons or non-beach days, downtown St. Petersburg offers the St. Pete Pier, the Dali Museum, and family-friendly restaurants, all about 15 to 20 minutes from Bear Creek.

Winter and early spring are the peak RV season on this stretch of the Gulf Coast. The Tampa Bay area has two basic seasons, a hot and wet season from May through October, and a mild and dry season from November through April. From November through April, average high temperatures dwell between 67.6°F and 71.4°F from December to February, humidity drops, and mosquitoes ease off. This is snowbird season, so monthly and seasonal sites at parks like the St. Petersburg / Madeira Beach KOA Holiday and Treasure Village MH- RV Park fill months in advance. Late spring is a shoulder window with warm beach days and lower crowds before school breaks. Summer, June through August, is hot, humid, and wet, with near-daily afternoon thunderstorms. Tampa receives a yearly average of about 30 inches of rain from June to September but only about 19 inches during the remaining eight months combined. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, and the Tampa Bay area is exposed. Fort De Soto campground was closed for several months following Hurricane Milton before reopening, so travelers arriving in late summer or early fall should monitor the National Hurricane Center and confirm reservations directly with the campground.

Sites in this area are urban to suburban. Expect paved interior roads, tight neighboring sites, and easy access to grocery stores, laundromats, and restaurants rather than a remote-feel campground. Most private parks offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service. At Fort De Soto, all sites have water and electrical hook-up with 30 and 50 amp service, a picnic table, and a charcoal grill, and dump stations and modern restrooms with showers are provided. Big-rig drivers should note that sites 1-85 at Fort De Soto are designed for tents, vans, pop-up campers and trailers shorter than 16 feet, while sites 86-236 accommodate all camping units. Confirm length, slide clearance, and pet policies when reserving; pets are permitted only in Area 2, sites 86-164. Bring bug spray from May through October, plan on afternoon rain in summer, and treat any tropical-weather advisory seriously. Pinellas County Code Chapter 90 prohibits consumption of alcoholic beverages in all Pinellas County Parks, and this is strictly enforced.
