Campgrounds and RV parks near Big Coppitt Key, FL

Big Coppitt Key sits in the Lower Florida Keys at mile marker 10 on the Overseas Highway, roughly ten miles east of Key West. The location puts RV travelers within a short drive of Old Town Key West while keeping them out of the city's tight streets and limited parking. Most nearby campgrounds line the highway between Big Coppitt and Sugarloaf Key, with several offering direct water access on the Atlantic or Gulf side. Geiger Key RV Park is the closest option, tucked on the backcountry side with a marina and open-air restaurant. Boyd's Key West Campground on Stock Island is the nearest full-service park to downtown Key West, while Bluewater Key RV Park to the north offers larger private lots with waterfront tiki huts. El Mar RV Resort and Leos Campground RV Park round out the local choices. The Lower Keys stretch from Little Duck Key south through Summerland, Cudjoe, Sugarloaf, Big Coppitt, and Stock Island, giving RV renters a compact chain of islands to explore from a single base, with Bahia Honda State Park to the north and Key West to the west.

Private RV parks in the Lower Keys handle their own reservations directly through their websites or by phone. Bluewater Key RV Park, Boyd's Key West Campground, El Mar RV Resort, Geiger Key RV Park, and Leos Campground RV Park all take bookings independently, and none use a centralized reservation system. For winter stays, book six to twelve months ahead. Longer-stay guests hold many prime waterfront sites through the season, so short-stay availability is limited and often released only when someone cancels. Bahia Honda State Park, the nearest state-run option, uses ReserveAmerica through the Florida State Parks system. Sites there open on a rolling eleven-month window and typically sell out within minutes of release for winter dates. Setting a calendar reminder for the release time and having a backup date is standard practice.
