Campgrounds and RV parks near Crawfordville, FL

The Ochlockonee River is the local centerpiece for paddling, tubing, and fishing, with a boat ramp inside Ochlockonee River State Park providing access to the Ochlockonee, Dead, and Sopchoppy rivers plus surrounding tidal creeks. Both freshwater and saltwater species are caught in these waters, including largemouth bass, bream, catfish, and speckled perch. Wildlife watching is a draw year-round: pine flatwoods and sandhill communities support red-cockaded woodpeckers, deer, fox squirrels, and the park's distinctive white squirrels. Wakulla Springs State Park lies a short drive away for spring-fed swimming and riverboat tours. Golfers based at Wildwood Golf and RV Resort have direct access to the adjacent Wakulla Sands course, and the coast at Panacea and Shell Island offers Gulf fishing and boating.

Ochlockonee River State Park is open year round, and the private parks around Crawfordville also operate every month, so scheduling is driven by weather and demand rather than closures. Cooler, drier months from late October through April are the most comfortable for RV travel, with lower humidity and reduced insect pressure. This window also overlaps with snowbird season, when Wildwood Golf and RV Resort and The Oaks RV Resort and Motel see steady long-stay bookings. Spring brings mild temperatures and rising demand tied to Florida State University events in Tallahassee. Summer is hot, humid, and buggy, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms and the highest rainfall totals of the year. The Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak activity in August and September, so travelers should monitor National Hurricane Center advisories. Fall cools gradually and offers some of the best fishing conditions on the Ochlockonee and along the Gulf coast.

Terrain around Crawfordville is flat and low, generally 10 to 25 feet above sea level, with pine flatwoods, live oaks, and coastal wetlands. At Ochlockonee River State Park, sites are dirt with a canopy of live oaks and palmetto understory, roads are narrow, and reviewers note tight maneuvering for rigs over 30 feet despite the posted 40-foot maximum. Expect full hookups and concrete or paved pads at Wildwood Golf and RV Resort, working-marina amenities at Shell Island Fish Camp, and simpler layouts at Panacea RV Park and The Oaks RV Resort and Motel. Cell coverage is generally reliable on major carriers. Mosquitoes, ticks, and biting flies are significant from late spring through early fall, so bring repellent and screens.
