Campgrounds near Crooked Lake Park
Crooked Lake Park is a small census-designated place in southeast Polk County, Florida, on the Lake Wales Ridge. The community sits west of Crooked Lake, a state-designated Outstanding Florida Water and one of the largest lakes in Polk County by surface area and volume. Elevation reaches roughly 138 feet, unusually high for peninsular Florida, and the surrounding ridge holds globally rare scrub habitat.
RV travelers use this area as a quiet base for central Florida trips. Camp Central RV Park South and Camp Central RV Park North sit closest to the community, followed by Lake Wales Campground a short drive north. Camp Inn RV Resort and Rainbow RV Resort round out the nearby options and lean toward longer stays and snowbird traffic.
The location works well for travelers who want lake access and citrus-country scenery without paying resort rates near Orlando, while staying within reach of theme parks, Bok Tower Gardens, and Legoland Florida.
Things to do near Crooked Lake Park
Crooked Lake itself draws anglers for largemouth bass, bluegill, and crappie, and the clear, sandy-bottomed water is popular for kayaking and small-boat use. Crooked Lake Prairie, a Polk County environmental lands site south of Babson Park, protects more than two miles of shoreline and offers short trails through scrub habitat where Florida scrub-jays and gopher tortoises are common sightings.
Day trips are easy. Bok Tower Gardens sits just north in Lake Wales, Legoland Florida is in nearby Winter Haven, and Lake Kissimmee State Park lies east across the ridge with hiking, fishing, and paddling. Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, and Busch Gardens Tampa are each within about an hour by road.

Central Florida has two practical RV seasons. The dry season runs roughly November through April, with warm days, cool nights, low humidity, and minimal rain. This is peak time for snowbirds, and RV parks in the Lake Wales area fill weeks ahead, especially around the winter holidays and Presidents Day weekend. Weekly and monthly rates are common, and long-stay guests occupy many sites.
The wet season, from late May through October, brings daily afternoon thunderstorms, high humidity, and heat indices that regularly exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Rainfall peaks in the summer months. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, and Polk County has seen significant impacts from inland-tracking storms, so travelers should monitor National Hurricane Center advisories.
Spring and fall shoulder weeks offer the best balance of open sites, lower demand, and comfortable temperatures. Bass fishing on Crooked Lake is strong in late winter and early spring during the spawn.

How to book near Crooked Lake Park
Private RV parks in the Crooked Lake Park area, including Camp Central RV Park South, Camp Central RV Park North, Lake Wales Campground, Camp Inn RV Resort, and Rainbow RV Resort, take reservations directly by phone or through their websites. Winter sites should be booked several months in advance, and some 55-plus resorts require a park application.
For public options, Polk County operates a small network of campgrounds reserved through the county parks system. Nearby Lake Kissimmee State Park and other Florida State Parks use the Reserve Florida system, which opens bookings up to eleven months ahead for residents and ten months ahead for non-residents. Popular winter dates at state parks are typically claimed the moment the window opens.
What to expect at Crooked Lake Park
Most RV parks in this corridor are full-hookup with 30 and 50 amp service, concrete or gravel pads, and Wi-Fi of variable quality. Several nearby resorts are age-restricted 55-plus communities focused on long-term guests, so families with children should confirm age policies before booking.
Expect flat terrain, sandy soils, and mature oak canopy at many sites. Mosquitoes, no-see-ums, and love bugs are seasonal realities, and alligators are present in most lakes and ponds, so pets should be leashed and kept away from shorelines. Cell coverage from major carriers is generally reliable.
Grocery, fuel, and RV supply stops are available in Lake Wales and Frostproof, both a short drive from the community.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Crooked%20Lake%20Park%2C%20FloridaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Crooked Lake Park, FL?
Great news for first-timers: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Crooked Lake Park. Florida does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special endorsement for motorhomes or travel trailers used recreationally, no matter the size. You'll just need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking. International visitors should grab an International Driving Permit (IDP) from their home country's auto club before flying in, usually for under $25. That's really it. Most guests are surprised how quickly the verification step wraps up, often within the same day.
flhsmv.gov/driver-licenses-id-cards/Is my RV rental in Crooked Lake Park protected if something goes wrong?
Peace of mind is built into every RVezy booking. Each RV rental in Crooked Lake Park includes a renter protection plan that covers physical damage to the vehicle plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are never stranded on US 27 or Scenic Highway 17 alone. You choose your protection level at checkout, with tiers ranging from basic to premium based on how much coverage you want. The protection plan gives renters strong financial backup if something unexpected happens on the road. If you are heading into busier areas like Orlando or Tampa where parking lots get tight, a higher-tier plan is a smart pick.

Booking is lower-risk than you might think. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and there is a grace period right after booking so you can lock in your dates with confidence. If a hurricane, tropical storm, or other natural disaster impacts Central Florida (a real consideration in Polk County between June and November), RVezy support works with guests on case-by-case relief. The exact refund amount depends on how far out from your trip start date you cancel. Book early to secure the best rigs for spring break or snowbird season, knowing the cancellation policy gives you flexibility if plans shift.

Delivery fees usually range from $2 to $5 per mile from the host's location. Pro tip: ask about a 'stationary setup' rental, you don't drive at all, perfect for a relaxed Florida lake trip.

May through September brings 90-degree heat, afternoon thunderstorms, and hurricane season (June 1 to November 30), but you'll also get the cheapest RV rental rates in Crooked Lake Park and uncrowded campgrounds. Crooked Lake itself stays swimmable nearly year-round thanks to its spring-fed clarity. Pro tip: the second week of November often has perfect 75-degree weather and very few crowds at Lake Kissimmee State Park.
weather.gov/tbw/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll be more than okay, first-time renters do this every day in Crooked Lake Park. Every RVezy host walks you through the entire rig at pickup: how the generator starts, where the freshwater tank fills, how to dump waste, and how to level the trailer. They share their phone number for the duration of your trip, so a quick text answers most questions. Many hosts in Polk County also offer delivery and on-site setup, meaning you can skip driving altogether your first time. The flat, straight stretches of US 27 and SR 60 around Crooked Lake Park are some of the easiest RV roads in Florida. Pro tip: book a stationary trailer at Lake Kissimmee State Park for your first trip, pure confidence-builder.
floridastateparks.org/learn/camping-florida-state-parksWhat happens if I break down during my Crooked Lake Park RV trip?
You are covered. Every RV rental in Crooked Lake Park includes 24/7 roadside assistance through the RVezy protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you are on US 27, exploring Ocala National Forest, or heading down I-75 toward the Everglades. Roadside covers flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing to the nearest qualified service center. RVezy support is available around the clock to coordinate everything and keep your host in the loop. Snap photos of the RV tire pressure and fluid levels at pickup; it makes any roadside call faster, and most issues in flat Florida terrain are minor.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Crooked Lake Park RV rental out of state or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals, and Crooked Lake Park is a fantastic launchpad. Popular RV road trips from Crooked Lake Park include the Florida Keys (4 hours south), the Georgia coast and Savannah (5 hours north), Charleston SC (8 hours), and the Smoky Mountains (9 hours). Cross-border travel into Canada is allowed by some hosts with advance approval, just message the host before booking to confirm. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance and protection coverage don't extend there. Pro tip: the I-10 'Gulf Coast loop' from Crooked Lake Park to New Orleans is a classic 10-hour shoulder-season run.
fdot.gov/agencyresources/mapsWhat's the fuel budget for a motorhome rental in Crooked Lake Park?
Easy to plan for. Motorhome rentals in Crooked Lake Park average 8 to 10 miles per gallon (mpg) for Class A and Class C rigs, and 12 to 18 mpg for Class B campervan rentals in Crooked Lake Park or for trucks pulling travel trailers. Florida gas prices typically run a bit below the national average. With diesel slightly higher, budget around $0.40 to $0.60 per mile for fuel on a Class C. The nearest fuel stations are along US 27 in Babson Park and Frostproof, with truck-friendly stops in Lake Wales. Pro tip: fill up in Frostproof rather than near Orlando, prices around Polk County are consistently lower than tourist corridors.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Crooked Lake Park?
For Florida state parks like Lake Kissimmee, book 11 months out, the maximum allowed window, through the Florida State Parks reservation system at FloridaStateParks.reserveamerica.com. Winter holidays and February to March 'snowbird' weeks fill within minutes of release. Private parks like KOA Lake Wales and Camp Mack typically take reservations 6 to 12 months out, with more flexibility. For summer trips, you can often snag spots just a week ahead. Pro tip: set a 7:59 a.m. Eastern alarm exactly 11 months before your check-in date, that's when state park inventory drops, and lakeside sites at Lake Kissimmee disappear in under two minutes.

Honestly, some of the easiest RV driving in Florida. Crooked Lake Park sits on flat to gently rolling terrain along the Lake Wales Ridge, with wide highways like US 27 and SR 60 that handle big rigs effortlessly. Watch for two things: summer afternoon thunderstorms (pull over for 20 minutes and they pass), and the occasional citrus truck on rural Polk County roads. Avoid driving large Class A motorhomes through downtown Lake Wales during weekday rush hour, side streets get tight. I-4 between Tampa and Orlando is the most congested stretch; aim to drive it before 7 a.m. or after 7 p.m. Pro tip: love bug season (May and September) coats windshields, keep washer fluid topped off.

Simple and transparent. You pay through RVezy secure checkout using a credit or debit card, with no cash and no awkward handoffs with the host. Your trip total covers the nightly rate, your chosen protection plan, host add-ons, and taxes. To protect your deposit: complete the pre-trip walkthrough with your host, treat the rig like your own, and return it with the same fuel and propane levels. Take dated photos of the interior, exterior, and odometer at pickup as added protection.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksIs a family RV trip to Crooked Lake Park a good idea?
It is one of the best family RV trip bases in Central Florida. Crooked Lake Park puts you within an hour of Legoland Florida in Winter Haven (about 25 minutes north), Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales (15 minutes), Peppa Pig Theme Park (about 30 minutes), and Walt Disney World (around 60 minutes), all without paying Orlando-area campground prices. Kids love swimming in Crooked Lake, spotting gopher tortoises at Crooked Lake Prairie Preserve, and exploring the Spook Hill optical illusion in Lake Wales. Most family-sized RVs sleep 6 to 8, with bunkhouse layouts ideal for kids. Book a delivered travel trailer at Lake Kissimmee State Park, set up base camp once, and day-trip to everything.
