Campgrounds near Fish Hawk, Florida
Fish Hawk is a residential community in southeastern Hillsborough County, within easy reach of Brandon, Riverview, Lithia, and the wider Tampa Bay area. The area sits along the Alafia River corridor, giving RV travelers a mix of state park camping, established private RV resorts, and quick access to Tampa attractions such as Busch Gardens, ZooTampa, and the Florida Aquarium.
The closest options include Hidden River RV Resort, an age-restricted community in Riverview with full hookups and pull-through sites, along with Citrus Hills RV Park. For public-land camping, Alafia River State Park in nearby Lithia is the standout, built on reclaimed phosphate-mining land with unusually hilly terrain for Florida. Tampa East RV Resort and Tampa East sit east of the city in the Dover area, useful for travelers wanting to be closer to Interstate 4 and Orlando-bound routes.
Most parks in the area stay open year-round, though demand shifts sharply with the season, and snowbird traffic drives up occupancy from late fall through early spring.
Things to do near Fish Hawk
Alafia River State Park is the main outdoor draw, with about 20 miles of hilly multi-use trails shared by hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians. The reclaimed mining terrain delivers some of the steepest grades in the state, and the South Prong of the Alafia River runs through the park as a blackwater stream suited to canoeing, kayaking, and fishing for largemouth bass, bluegill, and catfish. A full-service on-site bike shop offers rentals and repairs.
Beyond the park, the Tampa Bay area offers Busch Gardens, ZooTampa at Lowry Park, the Florida Aquarium, and Gulf beaches at Clearwater and St. Petersburg within an hour's drive. Lithia Springs and Edward Medard Conservation Park are closer options for swimming, picnicking, and paddling. Wildlife watchers regularly spot alligators, gopher tortoises, white-tailed deer, and wading birds along the river corridor.

The cooler dry season from October through April is by far the most comfortable time to camp near Fish Hawk. Daytime highs are mild, humidity drops, mosquito pressure eases, and area campgrounds and trails see their heaviest bookings. Snowbirds fill age-restricted resorts like Hidden River RV Resort from December through March, and holiday weekends at Alafia River State Park book out months ahead.
Summer runs hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common from June into September. Trails remain open, but biting insects and lightning risk pick up sharply, and heat indexes often climb well into the triple digits. This is also Atlantic hurricane season, which runs June through November and peaks August through October, and storms can force short-notice closures at state parks and low-lying private resorts.
Spring and fall shoulder periods offer warm swimming weather with lower crowd levels, though spring break weeks and Tampa's Gasparilla festival in late January drive local demand spikes.

Everything worked perfectly! Moises is a great host, he responded to all my questions and calls and even provided his personal camping app, which is a great find if you are into off grid cool safe camping spots to discover. It's not fancy on the outside, but the price is good and all the features are functional.

Excellent Campervan Experience We recently rented a campervan to travel to Savannah and Northern Georgia. We had a great time, thanks to the excellent orientation provided by Morgan. We truly had everything we needed, from a French Press to start our days out right to a comfy bed that accommodated two adults comfortably. It was an amazing experience, with all the comforts of home while still being able to connect with nature. Morgan was a phenomenal host and we can't recommend him highly enough!

How to book campgrounds near Fish Hawk
Alafia River State Park reservations run through the Florida State Parks reservation system. Florida residents may make campsite or cabin reservations up to 11 months in advance, and non-Florida residents may make campsite or cabin reservations up to 10 months in advance. The 30 family sites and 12 equestrian sites move quickly, and holiday weekends should be booked as far ahead as possible. New inventory is released daily at 8 a.m. Eastern.
Private resorts like Hidden River RV Resort, Citrus Hills RV Park, Tampa East RV Resort, and Tampa East take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For peak snowbird months from January through March, many private parks require multi-week minimums and can fill by early fall, so travelers should reach out well in advance.
What to expect
The family campground at Alafia River State Park is suitable for RVers and tent campers, with water and electrical hookups at each of the 30 campsites, clean restrooms featuring solar-heated showers, and two large picnic pavilions. Each site has a paved parking spur, picnic table, fire ring, and grill, three campsites and all campground restrooms are ADA accessible, and the campground has a dump station and amphitheater. The park is accessed via County Road 39, and some navigation systems have incorrectly shown the campground on Jameson Road.
Private resorts in the area typically offer full hookups with 30 and 50-amp service, pull-through sites, pools, laundry, and Wi-Fi. Hidden River RV Resort is age-restricted, so families with children should confirm policies before booking. Cellular coverage across the Fish Hawk and Riverview corridor is generally strong on all major carriers. Expect flat terrain outside the state park, warm nights most of the year, and alligators in any natural waterway.

Travel trailers typically start around $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes run roughly $175 to $275, and larger Class A rigs land between $250 and $400 nightly. Booking 4 to 6 weeks ahead of a Gasparilla weekend or Florida State Fair trip will help you lock in the best rate.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Fish%20Hawk%2C%20FloridaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Fish Hawk?
Good news: a regular Florida driver's license (or any valid US/Canadian license) is all you need to rent an RV in Fish Hawk, even for a 32-foot Class C motorhome. Florida does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or special RV endorsement for personal-use motorhomes or trailers. You'll need to be 25 or older to be an approved driver on RVezy, and ID verification is handled through the platform in just a few minutes. Visiting from overseas? Pick up an International Driving Permit from your home country's auto club before you fly in. Most first-timers are surprised how quickly the approval process moves once your ID is uploaded.

Every RV rental in Fish Hawk booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road with real peace of mind. You choose your protection level during checkout to match your trip and budget, and the plan covers eligible physical damage to the RV. It isn't traditional auto insurance, but it provides meaningful financial protection if something unexpected happens on your way to Alafia River State Park or Clearwater Beach. Pair that with the host's pickup walkthrough and you're starting your Florida adventure with a full safety net.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Fish Hawk RV booking?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy at the platform level rather than leaving it up to individual hosts, so you don't have to hunt through listings for fine print. Refund eligibility depends on how far out your trip is and the timing of your cancellation. Because Hillsborough County sits in Atlantic hurricane territory, RVezy also has guidance for trips affected by named storms. If life happens, reach out to RVezy support and they'll walk you through your options for your Fish Hawk RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Fish Hawk RV rental?
Absolutely, and there are plenty of pet-friendly RV rental options in Fish Hawk. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to instantly see hosts who welcome dogs (some welcome cats too). Hosts may charge a small pet cleaning fee, which you'll see upfront before booking. The Lithia area is great for traveling with pups: Fish Hawk Sports Complex has shaded walking paths, Alafia River State Park allows leashed pets on most trails, and Lithia Springs Park has grassy areas perfect for a quick stretch. Pack a long lead, a collapsible bowl, and plenty of fresh water (Florida humidity is no joke for dogs).
floridastateparks.org/learn/pets-florida-state-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway?
Yes, RV delivery Fish Hawk hosts make first-time camping incredibly easy. Many owners on RVezy will tow the RV directly to Alafia River State Park, Lithia Springs Park, your vacation rental driveway, or even a friend's house in nearby Brandon or Riverview, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Filter listings by Delivery to see who offers it and how far they'll travel (many cover the full Tampa Bay area). Delivery fees are usually based on round-trip mileage. It's the smartest way to skip the stress of towing a trailer through Tampa traffic on your first trip.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/alafia-river-state-parkHow far can I drive on an RV rental from Fish Hawk?

Little Manatee River State Park (35 miles south near Wimauma) has shaded, full-hookup sites along a scenic blackwater river. Hillsborough River State Park (30 miles north) is one of Florida's oldest state parks with paddling and Class II rapids. For resort-style amenities, Lazydays RV Resort in Seffner (15 miles north) has pools, a restaurant, and pull-through sites. Book Florida State Parks campsites exactly 11 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, especially for winter dates. RV camping Fish Hawk style is best when you reserve early.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/alafia-river-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for a Fish Hawk RV trip?
The sweet spot for an RV rental in Fish Hawk is mid-October through April, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70 to 82°F range, humidity drops, and mosquitoes take a break. December and January nights can dip into the 40s and even low 30s on cold snaps, so a heated RV is nice to have. Summer (June to September) is hot, humid, and brings near-daily afternoon thunderstorms plus Atlantic hurricane season, but it's also the cheapest time to book and great for spring-fed swimming holes like Lithia Springs. Locals' tip: late February through March is peak: warm, dry, and gorgeous, but campgrounds fill up fast.
weather.gov/tbw/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You're going to do great, and first time renting an RV in Fish Hawk is honestly one of the easiest places to start. Every RVezy host gives a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering propane, water, slide-outs, awnings, generator, and dumping. The terrain here is flat as a pancake (elevation around 100 feet), highways are wide, and most campgrounds within an hour are designed for big rigs. If you're nervous about driving, choose a smaller Class C motorhome or campervan rental Fish Hawk hosts offer, or just book delivery and let the owner set everything up for you. You can also message the host with questions before you book, and RVezy support is reachable 24/7 during your trip.
flhsmv.gov/safety-center/What happens if something goes wrong on the road?
You're covered around the clock. Every motorhome rental in Fish Hawk booked on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on I-75, a dead battery at Alafia River State Park, or a lockout in a parking lot are all just a phone call away. You can also reach the host directly through the RVezy app for quick questions about quirks of their specific RV, and RVezy support is available before, during, and after your trip. Save the roadside number to your phone before you leave the driveway and you'll never feel stranded on your Florida adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take the RV to other states or to Canada from Fish Hawk?
Yes, multi-state road trips are totally doable from Fish Hawk and one of the most fun ways to use your rental. Popular routes include the Florida Keys (Key Largo to Key West is roughly 280 to 440 miles south), the Georgia coast and Savannah (about 380 miles north), and Charleston, SC (about 480 miles north). Cross-border travel to Canada is often allowed with host approval and the right documentation, so message them through the listing before booking. Trips to Mexico are not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Confirm your route with the host before booking so mileage and travel limits match your plans.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Fish Hawk RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, so it's worth planning. Class C motorhomes in the Tampa area get about 8 to 10 miles per gallon, Class A rigs around 6 to 8, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10 to 14 mpg). Florida gas prices tend to sit close to the national average, with the cheapest stations along US-301 and I-4 corridors near Plant City. For a 300-mile weekend trip in a Class C, budget roughly $130 to $160 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Plant City or Brandon before heading east toward Lakeland or Orlando, where prices climb closer to the theme parks.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Fish Hawk?
For Florida State Parks like Alafia River, Little Manatee River, and Hillsborough River, booking opens exactly 11 months in advance at 8 a.m. through ReserveAmerica's Florida State Parks portal, and winter weekends (December to March) sell out within minutes. Private parks like Lazydays RV Resort or Hidden River RV Resort usually book up 2 to 3 months out for peak season. For summer and weekday stays, you can often find sites within a week. Insider tip: set a calendar reminder for the 11-month mark if you want a winter site at Alafia River State Park, then book your RV rental Florida hosts offer right after to lock everything in.
floridastateparks.org/learn/reservationsWhat are the driving conditions like around Fish Hawk?
Driving an RV around Fish Hawk is refreshingly easy. The terrain is flat with no mountain passes, and the main roads (Lithia Pinecrest, Boyette, and FL-640) are wide and RV-friendly. The catch is Tampa-area traffic: I-75 and the Selmon Expressway get congested between 7 and 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. on weekdays, so plan to roll out midmorning. Watch height clearances if you head into downtown Tampa or under the Skyway Bridge approaches (most RVs are fine, but check your rig's height at pickup). Summer afternoons bring quick, intense thunderstorms; if you see a wall of dark clouds building from the Gulf, pull off at a rest stop until it passes.
fl511.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Fish Hawk?
Campgrounds near Fish Hawk range from full-service resorts to rustic state parks, so you can pick your comfort level. Florida State Parks like Alafia River and Little Manatee River offer 30/50-amp electric, potable water at each site, hot showers, dump stations, and laundry. Private parks like Lazydays RV Resort and Hidden River RV Resort add pools, Wi-Fi, restaurants, and often pickleball. Free dump stations are available at most state parks for day-use guests too. For potable water fills between trips, stop at any state park or Flying J/Pilot truck stop along I-75. Cell service is strong throughout the Tampa metro, so streaming and remote work from your campsite are usually no problem.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/little-manatee-river-state-parkWhat's typically included inside a Fish Hawk RV rental?
You'll be impressed by how move-in ready these rigs are. Most RVs on RVezy in the Fish Hawk area come with a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, microwave, stove, sometimes an oven), an interior bathroom with toilet and shower, comfortable sleeping for 4 to 8, roof-mounted air conditioning (essential in Florida), a furnace, and seatbelts for safe travel. Many hosts also include a flat-screen TV, outdoor awning with lights, and a backup camera. Wi-Fi hotspots and generators are common add-ons you can request. Check the amenities list on each listing or message the host to confirm what's included, especially if you need specifics like a dedicated workspace or a king bed.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Fish%20Hawk%2C%20FloridaHow do pickup, drop-off, and add-ons work?
Pickup and drop-off are flexible and host-driven. Most owners meet you at their home in Fish Hawk, Lithia, Brandon, or Riverview for a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough, or they'll deliver to your campground for an extra fee. Popular add-ons include linens and towel packages, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, bike racks, generators, propane tank fills, and pet packages. Mileage policies vary by host: many include around 100 miles per night with additional miles at a per-mile rate, and some offer unlimited mileage upgrades for longer road trips. Confirm pickup time, drop-off location, and any add-ons in the RVezy chat before booking so there are zero surprises on day one.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106394-How-to-pay-for-your-bookingHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and handled entirely through RVezy: you pay securely online with a credit or debit card at booking, and funds are processed through the platform so both you and the host are protected. A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold before pickup (commonly $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) and released after drop-off, assuming the rig comes back in the same condition. To avoid issues, do a quick walkaround video with the host at pickup and drop-off, return with the same fuel and propane levels, and dump the tanks if your host requires it.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I beat the Florida heat in an RV?
Florida summer heat is real, but easy to manage with the right setup. Every RV on RVezy in the Fish Hawk area comes with roof-mounted air conditioning, and most can run on a 30-amp or 50-amp shore power hookup at any campground. On 90 to 95°F July afternoons, park in shade when possible (Alafia River State Park's oak canopy is amazing for this), close the shades on sun-facing windows, and pre-cool the RV before you start cooking dinner. Drive in the morning to avoid afternoon thunderstorms, and pack a cooler with extra electrolyte drinks. Shoulder seasons (March to April and October to November) are the smart-money move: gorgeous weather and lower nightly rates.
