Campgrounds and RV parks near Five Points, FL

Water is the main draw. The Ichetucknee River, about 25 miles south, is one of Florida's premier tubing runs, fed by eight major named springs that keep the water at a steady 72°F year-round. Tubing peaks from late May through early September, and the park also allows snorkeling, paddling and, in Blue Hole Spring, cave-certified scuba diving from October through March. O'Leno State Park on the Santa Fe River offers hiking, biking and equestrian trails shared with adjacent River Rise Preserve, plus a well-known disappearing river that goes underground for about three miles before resurfacing. Suwannee River State Park adds Civil War earthworks, cypress-lined bluffs and canoe access at the junction of the Suwannee and Withlacoochee rivers. Closer to Five Points, Alligator Lake Recreation Area in Lake City offers roughly 1,000 acres of wetlands with hiking, biking and canoe trails.

North-central Florida has a humid subtropical climate with hot, wet summers and mild, drier winters. Spring and fall are generally the most comfortable windows for RV travel: daytime highs are warm but not oppressive, humidity is lower, and the state parks are open at full capacity. Wildflowers along the sandhill and hammock trails at Ichetucknee and O'Leno are most visible in spring. Summer is peak tubing season on the Ichetucknee River, but afternoon thunderstorms are near-daily and heat indices frequently exceed 100°F. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with the highest storm risk in August, September and October; travelers should watch National Hurricane Center advisories and confirm park status before arriving. Winter is the driest and coolest season. Highs typically reach the mid-60s with cool nights, springs stay a constant 72°F, and Blue Hole opens to cave-certified scuba divers between October and March. Snowbird demand tightens site availability at private parks from January through March.

Sites at the private parks around Lake City tend to be pull-through with full hookups, and most accommodate large Class A rigs and fifth wheels. Cell coverage is generally reliable along the I-10 and I-75 corridors and thins out on rural back roads. At Florida state parks, expect back-in and pull-through sites with water and 30- or 50-amp electric, gravel or paved pads, shared dump stations, and modern bathhouses. Some park loops have length restrictions, so confirm site dimensions before booking a longer rig. Firewood is usually sold at ranger stations, and burn bans can be issued during dry periods. Wildlife is part of the experience: expect mosquitoes and biting flies in summer, occasional alligators in rivers and sinkholes, and abundant birdlife. Keep food secured and pets leashed at all times.
