RV camping near Glenvar Heights
Glenvar Heights sits in southern Miami-Dade County, positioning RV travelers between the beaches of Biscayne Bay, the wetlands of Everglades National Park, and the reef line running down to the Florida Keys. The area functions primarily as a base camp: most RV parks cluster to the south and west, in the agricultural belt around Homestead, Florida City, and the Redland, rather than inside the urban core.
Options closest to Glenvar Heights include Florida Park Miami, along with Miami Everglades RV Resort roughly thirty miles south in the Redland farming district. Further south toward the park entrances, RVers can look at The Boardwalk, Southern Comfort RV Resort, and Goldcoaster RV Resort, all within a short drive of the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center.
Expect flat terrain, palm and mango cover at many parks, and easy access to US-1 and the Florida Turnpike, which links the region north to downtown Miami and south to Key Largo in about an hour.
Things to do near Glenvar Heights
Everglades National Park is the anchor attraction. From the Homestead entrance, drivers reach Royal Palm, Long Pine Key, and eventually Flamingo on Florida Bay, with boardwalks, wildlife loops, and ranger programs along the way. Biscayne National Park, primarily water-based, offers boat tours, snorkeling, and paddling from the Dante Fascell Visitor Center in Homestead.
Closer to Glenvar Heights, families can visit Zoo Miami, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, Monkey Jungle, and the Coral Castle. Key Largo and John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park sit about an hour south on US-1 for reef snorkeling and glass-bottom-boat trips.
Redland farm stands, u-pick groves, and tropical fruit vendors line Krome Avenue and Ave 187, giving RV travelers a slower daytime option between park visits.

South Florida has two seasons that matter for RV planning: the dry season from roughly November through April, and the wet season from May through October. Winter is the peak visitor window, when wading birds concentrate in shrinking wetlands and daytime humidity stays low, while summer brings hot, muggy conditions and mosquitoes.
Winter is peak season, and advance reservations are strongly advised. Flamingo and Long Pine Key campgrounds often reach capacity from December through March on weekends. Private RV resorts in Homestead and the Redland fill with snowbirds on monthly stays, so booking eight to twelve weeks out is realistic for holidays and February.
Summer brings heat, daily thunderstorms, and mosquitoes, plus the Atlantic hurricane season, which peaks August through October. Some park amenities and concessions reduce hours in the wet season, and portions of Flamingo Campground can close due to seasonal flooding, but availability is easier and traffic in the national parks is lighter.

How to book a campsite near Glenvar Heights
Private RV resorts near Glenvar Heights, including Miami Everglades RV Resort, The Boardwalk, Southern Comfort RV Resort, and Goldcoaster RV Resort, take reservations directly through their websites or by phone. Long-term and seasonal cancellation policies typically require notice well in advance of arrival.
For Everglades National Park frontcountry sites, Flamingo and Long Pine Key campgrounds are reserved through Flamingo Adventures, the authorized park concessioner, with a portion of sites held for first-come, first-served arrivals. Wilderness backcountry permits are booked online through Recreation.gov.
For holiday weekends, book private resorts early. National park sites sell out fastest in the January to March window.
What to expect
RV parks in this corridor mix snowbird residents with short-stay travelers, so the pace tends to be quiet, with clubhouses, pools, shuffleboard, and organized activities during the winter months. At Miami Everglades RV Resort, organized activities generally run December through April. Expect full hookups, 30 and 50 amp service, and pull-through sites at the larger resorts.
Mosquitoes are a real factor near the Everglades, especially at dawn, dusk, and through the wet season. Bring repellent, screen rooms, and consider awning screens. Afternoon thunderstorms are routine in summer; secure awnings and outdoor gear.
Urban Miami traffic is heavy, and some resorts enforce breed restrictions on pets and quiet hours on generators, so review park rules before arrival.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Glenvar Heights, FL
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Glenvar Heights, FL?
RV rental in Glenvar Heights is one of the most affordable ways to explore South Florida and the Keys. On RVezy, you will typically find travel trailers from around $95 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes from $175 to $275 per night, and Class A motorhomes from $250 and up. Prices peak from December through April when snowbirds head to Miami-Dade County, so booking a shoulder-season trip in May or early November is a smart move for a cheap RV rental in Glenvar Heights. Pro tip: filter for travel trailers and add delivery to a nearby campground so you skip towing entirely and lock in a lower nightly rate.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Glenvar%20Heights%2C%20FloridaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Glenvar Heights?
A regular Florida or out-of-state driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Glenvar Heights, even for a 30-foot Class C motorhome. Florida does not require a special RV endorsement or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for personal-use recreational vehicles. On RVezy, approved drivers are generally 25 or older and verify their ID through the platform, which takes just a few minutes online before pickup. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country alongside your home license. Most first-time renters are surprised how quick the approval process is, so you can focus on planning your Everglades or Keys adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my RV rental in Glenvar Heights protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every booking on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered from the moment you pull out of the driveway. During checkout you choose your protection level (this is a guest choice, not the host's), so you can match coverage to your comfort level, helpful when navigating Miami's expressways or driving down to the Florida Keys. Protection plans cover qualifying damage to the RV and provide meaningful financial peace of mind for your Glenvar Heights RV trip. Tip: save the RVezy support number in your phone before heading to remote spots like Flamingo Campground in Everglades National Park.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Glenvar Heights RV rental?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy, and refund eligibility depends on how far in advance of your trip start date you cancel. Full cancellation details are available in the RVezy Help Center, and the policy is applied consistently across all bookings. If a hurricane warning, tropical storm, or other natural disaster threatens your South Florida trip during Atlantic hurricane season (June 1 to November 30), RVezy support reviews impacted bookings on a case-by-case basis. Pro tip: book early for peak winter dates in Miami-Dade, knowing the cancellation terms are clearly defined upfront.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Glenvar Heights?
Yes, pet-friendly RV rental in Glenvar Heights is easy to find. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see plenty of hosts who welcome dogs and cats, many with no extra cleaning fee. South Florida is a fantastic dog destination: Larry & Penny Thompson Park (about 10 minutes south in Miami-Dade) has leashed-dog trails, Matheson Hammock Park in nearby Coral Gables welcomes pups on the seawall, and Bark Park at Tropical Park is a short drive north. Heads up: Everglades National Park restricts pets on most trails, so plan dog activities for the Miami metro area. Tip: message the host to confirm dog size and let them know you're bringing a furry co-pilot.
miamidade.gov/parks/pets.aspCan the RV be delivered to my campground or hotel in Glenvar Heights?
Yes, RV delivery in Glenvar Heights is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer if you're flying into Miami International Airport (MIA), which is just 6 miles north. Many local hosts will deliver and set up the RV at your chosen campground, your South Miami driveway, or even a marina, then walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Delivery is especially smart for travel trailers and fifth wheels, since you skip towing through Miami-Dade traffic entirely. Pro tip: filter for Delivery on RVezy, message the host with your destination (like Miami Everglades RV Resort or Larry & Penny Thompson Campground), and ask for a delivery quote, often a flat fee based on distance.

Each host sets their own daily mileage allowance (often 100 to 150 miles per day) plus a per-mile fee for overages, all shown on the listing. Pro tip: if you're planning the Keys plus an Orlando run, message the host before booking to negotiate a higher mileage cap or an unlimited add-on.

Summer (June through September) brings highs near 90°F, high humidity, daily afternoon thunderstorms, and Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. Local insider tip: January and February are dry-season magic in Everglades National Park, when wildlife concentrates around the few remaining water holes and birding is world-class.
weather.gov/mfl/climateI'm renting an RV for the first time. How will I know what to do?
You'll be in great hands. First time renting an RV is one of the most common scenarios on RVezy, and every host gives you a full orientation walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate the slide-outs, awning, water systems, generator, propane, leveling, and dump valves. You can also message the host before booking to ask anything, and many include written cheat sheets in the RV. RVezy's 24/7 support team is one phone call away during your entire trip. Pro tip for Miami-area first-timers: pick a Class C motorhome or a delivered travel trailer for your first Glenvar Heights RV trip, drive south on the Florida Turnpike (way calmer than I-95), and aim for a full-hookup campground so you can practice systems with help nearby.
fmca.com/motorhoming/8242-rv-driving-tips-for-beginnersWhat if the RV breaks down during my trip?
Don't worry, 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every RVezy booking, so help is always one call away, whether you are on the Palmetto Expressway or out near Flamingo in Everglades National Park. Coverage typically includes flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to a qualified service center. Your host is also a direct resource through the RVezy app since they know their RV best. Tip: before leaving Glenvar Heights, snap photos of tire pressures, generator hours, and fluid levels during your walkthrough, then save the RVezy support number and your host's contact info to your phone. You will feel covered the whole way to Key West and back.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my RV rental from Glenvar Heights across state lines or into Mexico or the Bahamas?
Yes, you can absolutely take an RV road trip from Glenvar Heights across state lines, popular runs include up I-95 to Savannah (490 miles), through Florida to the Smokies, or over to the Gulf Coast. Just message the host before booking to confirm your route. International travel is different: trips into Mexico are not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance doesn't extend there, and the Bahamas isn't drivable from Miami anyway. Cross-border trips into Canada may be permitted with host approval, but for a Miami-based RV that's usually a multi-week commitment. Pro tip: a 10-day loop from Glenvar Heights through the Keys, Everglades, and up to St. Augustine gives you the best of Florida without leaving the state.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-go/your-tripHow much should I budget for fuel on an RV trip from Glenvar Heights?
Fuel is one of your biggest line items, so let's make it predictable. Class C motorhomes in the Miami area average 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG), Class A motorhomes 6 to 8 MPG, and a truck towing a travel trailer about 10 to 12 MPG. Florida gas prices typically run a bit below the national average, often $3.10 to $3.60 per gallon for regular unleaded. For a 400-mile round trip from Glenvar Heights to Key West and back in a Class C, budget around $140 to $180 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Pilot/Flying J in Florida City before heading into the Keys, as gas prices spike noticeably once you cross onto US-1 south of Homestead.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Glenvar Heights?
Book early, especially for the winter season. Florida State Park campgrounds (including John Pennekamp Coral Reef and Bahia Honda in the Keys) open reservations 11 months in advance via the Florida State Parks reservation system, and prime sites for December through March fill within minutes of release. Miami-Dade County campgrounds like Larry & Penny Thompson take reservations up to 6 months out. Private resorts (Miami Everglades RV Resort, Boardwalk RV Resort, Goldcoaster) often book 3 to 6 months ahead for peak winter. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for exactly 11 months before your target date to grab Bahia Honda State Park, the most sought-after RV camping near the Keys, and have a backup site selected in case your first choice gets snagged.
floridastateparks.org/learn/reservations-faqWhat's it like to drive an RV around Glenvar Heights and Miami?
Driving conditions are easier than most people expect once you know a few local tricks. The Florida Turnpike and US-1 south of Glenvar Heights are flat, wide, and RV-friendly, with the Overseas Highway to Key West being one of the most scenic RV drives in America. Avoid I-95 through downtown Miami during rush hour (7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.), skip MacArthur Causeway and Miami Beach in anything taller than 11 feet because of tight parking, and watch for sudden afternoon thunderstorms June through September. Tropical Storm-force winds can hit even outside hurricane season, so check the forecast daily. Pro tip: choose host delivery if Miami traffic feels intimidating, and you'll skip the urban driving entirely.
fl511.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Glenvar Heights?
South Florida campgrounds are well-equipped for RVers. Most parks within 30 miles of Glenvar Heights, like Larry & Penny Thompson, Miami Everglades RV Resort, and Boardwalk RV Resort, offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer), free Wi-Fi, laundry, hot showers, pools, and dump stations. Fresh water fill-ups and dump stations are also available at Pilot/Flying J in Florida City and most Florida State Parks. Cell service is strong throughout Miami-Dade but drops noticeably in Everglades National Park around Flamingo. Pro tip: bring a 50-amp to 30-amp adapter and a 25-foot drinking-water hose, even though most hosts include the basics, and you'll be ready for any hookup configuration South Florida throws at you.
floridastateparks.org/rv-campingWhat's actually inside a typical RV rental in Glenvar Heights?
You'll be impressed by how loaded these RVs are. A typical motorhome rental on RVezy in Glenvar Heights includes a queen or king bed, full kitchen (fridge, freezer, microwave, three-burner stove, sink), bathroom with shower and toilet, dinette, air conditioning (essential in South Florida), heat, a generator or shore power, fresh/gray/black water tanks, and seatbelted seating for travel. Most come with a flat-screen TV, and many include Wi-Fi hotspots or Bluetooth speakers. Travel trailers offer similar interiors minus the cab. Campervan rental Glenvar Heights options (Class B) are perfect for couples wanting easy parking in Coconut Grove or South Beach. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count and check each listing's photo gallery to confirm the exact layout fits your crew.
rvia.org/rv-typesWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about for my Glenvar Heights RV rental?
Hosts on RVezy offer helpful add-ons that make your motorhome rental Glenvar Heights trip smoother: kitchen and linen kits, generators, portable grills, bike racks, beach chairs, paddleboards, camping chairs, and sometimes pre-stocked propane. Pickup is usually at the host's home in the Miami-Dade area, and delivery is widely available to MIA Airport, hotels, marinas, and campgrounds (ideal if you are flying in). Daily mileage allowances are typically 100 to 150 miles plus per-mile overage fees, and many listings offer unlimited mileage. Pro tip: bundle delivery, a linen kit, and a generator into your booking from one host, it is almost always cheaper than sourcing these separately once you are in Florida.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Glenvar%20Heights%2C%20FloridaHow does payment and the security deposit work for my Glenvar Heights RV rental?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy with a credit or debit card when you book, and funds are held safely until your trip begins. The security deposit is separate from your booking payment, hosts place a refundable hold (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV class) on your card before pickup. As long as you return the RV in the same condition with the agreed fuel and tank levels, the deposit is released back to your card after drop-off. Tip: at pickup in Glenvar Heights, walk around the RV with your host and take dated photos and a short video of the exterior, interior, and tires, this simple step prevents almost every deposit dispute and gets you back on the road fast.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I legally park an RV overnight in and around Glenvar Heights?
You've got plenty of legal overnight options for where to park an RV in Glenvar Heights. The safest and easiest is a designated campground or RV resort, with Larry & Penny Thompson, Miami Everglades RV Resort, and Goldcoaster RV Resort all within 20 miles. Miami-Dade County Code Section 33-20(f) limits residential RV parking to one vehicle (up to 30 feet long, 10 feet tall) per single-family or duplex lot, and out-of-county guests may stay up to 14 days at a host's home. Street parking overnight is generally not allowed in Miami-Dade. Pro tip: if your host offers driveway pickup or delivery to a campground, you avoid all the local parking restrictions, and you'll wake up already plugged into shore power.
