Camping near Hastings, Florida
Hastings sits in southern St. Johns County, roughly 20 miles inland from St. Augustine and the Atlantic coast. The town is surrounded by farmland, pine flatwoods, and the St. Johns River basin, which shapes the local camping options: a mix of small private RV parks, riverfront fish camps, and full-hookup resorts within an easy drive of the coast.
RV renters typically use Hastings as a quiet, lower-traffic base for exploring historic St. Augustine, Crescent Beach, and the Matanzas River. Closer to town, 4 Lakes Campground offers full-hookup sites, and St. John's Campground provides river access on the St. Johns. Lynchs Landing RV Park and Cottages and Half Shell Resort and Marina sit along nearby waterways with boat ramps.
For travelers who want to stay closer to the coast, St. Augustine RV Resort is within about a 20-minute drive and puts renters near the beaches, the historic district, and the region's state parks.
Things to do near Hastings
The St. Johns River corridor west of town is a draw for anglers, with largemouth bass, crappie, and catfish common catches. Boat ramps at riverfront parks like St. John's Campground and Lynchs Landing RV Park and Cottages make it easy to launch a kayak, jon boat, or bass boat.
Day trips reach a lot of ground. St. Augustine's historic district, the Castillo de San Marcos, and Anastasia State Park are all within about a 30-minute drive. Fort Matanzas National Monument sits south along A1A, and Faver-Dykes State Park offers paddling on Pellicer Creek.
Closer in, families use pool time and lake swimming at 4 Lakes Campground to break up beach and sightseeing days.

Late fall through early spring is the most comfortable window for RV travel in this part of northeast Florida. Daytime highs run mild, humidity drops, and mosquito pressure eases. This is also peak season for coastal state parks, and demand pushes reservations out months in advance.
Summer brings heat, high humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms almost daily. It is also Atlantic hurricane season, which runs June 1 through November 30, with the highest activity typically from mid-August through October. Renters should watch National Hurricane Center advisories and confirm cancellation terms before locking in summer dates on the coast.
September is the wettest month in nearby St. Augustine, averaging around seven inches of rain, while November is the driest. Winter nights can dip near freezing a handful of times each year, most often in January, so RVers should plan basic freeze protection on hoses and tanks during cold snaps.

How to book campgrounds near Hastings
Private parks in and around Hastings, including 4 Lakes Campground, St. John's Campground, Lynchs Landing RV Park and Cottages, Half Shell Resort and Marina, and St. Augustine RV Resort, generally take reservations directly by phone or through their websites. For holiday weekends and the winter snowbird stretch, book several months out.
State park campgrounds in the region use the Florida State Parks reservation system at reserve.floridastateparks.org or by phone at 800-326-3521. Florida residents can book up to 11 months in advance, and non-residents up to 10 months. Anastasia State Park near St. Augustine is especially competitive and fills quickly on weekends and holidays.
What to expect on the ground
Sites near Hastings skew rural. Roads are flat, cell coverage is generally reliable along US-1 and I-95, and most private parks offer full hookups with 30- and 50-amp service. Interior campground roads can be a mix of paved and shell or gravel, so renters with larger Class A or fifth-wheel rigs should confirm site length and pull-through availability at booking.
Expect real bugs: mosquitoes and no-see-ums are active near water, especially at dawn and dusk from spring through fall. Pack repellent and check screens before arrival.
State park sites like Anastasia offer electricity and water at the site but no sewer hookups; a dump station is provided on site. Confirm RV length limits before reserving, as some state park sites cap around 38 to 40 feet.

weather.gov/jax/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay in Hastings?
You'll do great, and Hastings is actually one of the easier places in Florida to learn. The roads around town, like CR-13, CR-207, and US-1, are flat, straight, and lightly trafficked, which is ideal for first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering propane, slides, leveling, tanks, and driving tips. You can also message your host anytime during the trip if a question comes up. Pro tip: if you're nervous about pulling into a tight site, request delivery so the host parks and levels everything for you. After one day behind the wheel, you'll wonder why you waited so long.
flhsmv.gov/safety-center/What happens if my RV breaks down during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every RV rental in Hastings, FL booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on State Road 207, a dead battery at Faver-Dykes, or a tow off I-95 is a single phone call away. RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after your trip. Snap a photo of your roadside assistance number and host's contact info before you head out, just in case cell service dips in rural Putnam or Flagler County.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best RV road trips from Hastings, FL?
You're sitting on a gold mine of road trip routes. From Hastings, popular RV road trips include heading 20 miles north to historic St. Augustine for cobblestone streets and the Castillo de San Marcos, then continuing 90 miles up A1A to Amelia Island. Southbound, it's about 50 miles to Daytona Beach and another 60 to NASA's Kennedy Space Center. Inland, Ocala National Forest and its crystal-clear springs sit just 70 miles west. For a bigger adventure, the Florida Keys are roughly 400 miles south via the Overseas Highway. Heads up: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals, but cross-border trips into Georgia and beyond are usually fine, just confirm with your host before booking.
visitflorida.com/road-trips/How much will fuel cost on my Hastings RV trip?
With a little planning, fuel costs are manageable. Florida gas prices typically sit near the national average, with regular unleaded recently in the $3.00 to $3.40 per gallon range in the St. Augustine and Palatka area. Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, travel trailer fuel use depends on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 MPG), and campervans can stretch to 18 to 20 MPG. For a 300-mile loop from Hastings to St. Augustine, Daytona, and back, expect roughly $90 to $130 in fuel for a midsize motorhome. The Flying J and Pilot off I-95 south of St. Augustine often have competitive diesel prices in the region.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Hastings, FL?
Book sooner than you think, especially for state parks. Florida State Parks like Anastasia and Faver-Dykes open reservations 11 months in advance for Florida residents and 10 months in advance for non-residents through reserve.floridastateparks.org or by calling 1-800-326-3521. Peak winter weekends from December through March can sell out quickly. Private parks like Stagecoach RV Park and Pepper Tree Resort are usually easier to grab 1 to 3 months ahead. Set a calendar alert for exactly 10 months before your target arrival, log in 15 minutes early, and have your payment info pre-saved to score Anastasia State Park beachside sites.
floridastateparks.org/learn/reservation-informationWhat are driving conditions like around Hastings, FL?
Driving in and around Hastings is refreshingly easy. The terrain is flat farmland (this is Florida's potato capital after all), the roads are straight, and traffic is light outside of US-1 during rush hour. You'll want to plan for two specific local quirks: afternoon thunderstorms from June through September can drop heavy rain in 15 minutes, so pull over and wait it out, and watch for slow-moving farm equipment on CR-13 and CR-207 during planting and harvest seasons. I-95 to your east is the fastest north-south route to St. Augustine and Daytona. Pro tip: avoid the Bridge of Lions in downtown St. Augustine with a large motorhome and use the King Street route instead.
fl511.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Hastings, FL?
You'll have what you need close at hand. Most private RV parks near Hastings, including Stagecoach RV Park, offer full hookups (water, 30/50 amp electric, and sewer), Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry, and dump stations. Florida State Parks such as Faver-Dykes have water and electric at the site plus a centralized dump station, but no individual sewer hookups, so plan a mid-trip dump. Potable water fills are standard at every campground entrance. North Beach Camp Resort also offers easy access to the water for kayaking. Bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a water pressure regulator, since Florida park pressure can spike.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/faver-dykes-state-parkWhat's inside a typical RV rental in Hastings, FL?
More creature comforts than most first-timers expect. A typical motorhome rental in Hastings, FL comes fully equipped with a queen or king bed, a kitchen (fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, sink, cookware), a bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control via roof air conditioning and furnace, a dinette that converts to extra sleeping, and seatbelts for everyone riding. Most listings include a TV, and many feature an onboard generator, solar panels, outdoor speakers, and an awning for shade. Campervan rentals in Hastings tend to be more compact but still pack a bed, mini kitchen, and Wi-Fi hotspot. Each listing page shows exactly what's included, and you can message the host to confirm specifics like Wi-Fi range or bed dimensions before you book.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/rvsWhat add-ons and pickup options should I look for?
The right add-ons can transform your trip. Popular extras on Hastings RV rentals include linens and kitchen kits, portable generators, bike or kayak racks, propane fire pits, and outdoor camp setups (chairs, table, hammock). Mileage policies vary by host: some include 100 free miles per night, others offer unlimited mileage, and you can often pre-purchase extra miles at a discount. Pickup typically happens at the host's home in Hastings, East Palatka, or St. Augustine, with drop-off on the morning of your final day, and delivery is often available for a fee. Ask for a propane fill add-on so you're not chasing a refill station late on a Friday night.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Hastings,%20FloridaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure through RVezy, with no cash handoffs to the host. You pay the booking total (rent, fees, protection plan) by credit card when you book. A separate refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released back to you after a clean return. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround video with your host at pickup and again at drop-off, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and empty the tanks if your contract requires it. Keep gas receipts from your last fill near Hastings on US-1 in case any fuel-level questions come up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksIs Hastings, FL a good base for a family RV trip?
Hastings is one of the best-kept secrets in northeast Florida for families. A family RV trip in Hastings puts you within a 30-minute drive of the St. Augustine Alligator Farm, the Castillo de San Marcos, Anastasia State Park's swimmable Atlantic beach, and the Whetstone Chocolates factory tour. Kids love the splash pad at Pier Park in St. Augustine Beach and the Colonial Quarter living history museum. Hastings itself is quiet and agricultural, a peaceful escape from theme park crowds, yet Orlando is about two hours away when you want roller coasters. Book a pet-friendly Class C motorhome with bunks and let the kids claim the top bunks for a trip they'll remember.
