Islamorada is built around the water. Charter boats run daily out of local marinas for offshore trolling, backcountry flats fishing, and reef trips to Alligator Reef and Cheeca Rocks. Snorkeling and dive operators also head north to John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo, which protects the only living coral barrier reef in the continental United States.
