Campgrounds and RV parks near Key West, FL

Water activities dominate. Snorkel and dive trips run daily out of Key West Harbor to the reef tract, and Dry Tortugas National Park is reachable by ferry or seaplane from the Historic Seaport. Kayaking, paddleboarding, and backcountry flats fishing launch from marinas on Stock Island and Geiger Key. In town, Duval Street, the Ernest Hemingway Home, the Key West Lighthouse, Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park, and the nightly Mallory Square sunset celebration are the anchor stops. Fort Zachary Taylor has the best swimming beach on the island. Families with kids often pair the Key West Aquarium and the Butterfly and Nature Conservatory with a glass-bottom boat trip. Bikes and scooters are the easiest way to get around Old Town; most Key West campgrounds rent them or sit on the bus route.

Key West has two clear seasons. The dry season runs roughly December through April, with warm days, lower humidity, and steady trade winds. This is peak RV season: sites at Boyd's Key West Campground, Bluewater Key RV Park, and Leos Campground RV Park routinely sell out months ahead, and holiday weeks plus the January to March snowbird stretch are the tightest windows. The wet season runs May through October. Days are hot and humid with afternoon thunderstorms, water temperatures peak, and mosquitoes are more active in the backcountry. Fall brings the most precipitation, with heavy seasonal downpours or afternoon thunderstorms during the warmer months, while winter is the driest season. Rates ease and availability opens up, but travelers should watch the tropics. Atlantic hurricane season officially runs June 1 through November 30, with peak activity from mid-August through October. Campgrounds in the Keys will evacuate under a mandatory order from Monroe County, and reservations are typically refunded or rebooked when that happens.

Sites in the Keys are tight. Many parks were laid out decades ago on narrow lots, so big rigs should confirm length, slide clearance, and turning radius before booking. Full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service are standard at the parks listed above; some sites are waterfront with direct access to canals or the flats. Expect salt air, strong sun, and mosquitoes at dusk during the wet season. Bring sun shades, a freshwater rinse plan for bikes and gear, and reef-safe sunscreen, which is required in several Keys jurisdictions. Parking a tow vehicle in Old Town Key West is difficult and metered. Most guests leave the RV at the campground and use bikes, scooters, the Duval Loop bus, or rideshares to reach downtown.
