Campgrounds near Lakeside, Florida
Lakeside is a census-designated place in Clay County, Florida, on the west side of the St. Johns River just south of Jacksonville. Its position along Blanding Boulevard (State Road 21) and US 17 puts RV travelers within a short drive of Doctors Lake, the St. Johns River, downtown Jacksonville, and the beaches of Duval County.
Campground options in the area lean toward small, private, waterfront-oriented parks rather than large resort chains. Whitey's Fish Camp on Doctors Lake in nearby Fleming Island is the closest waterfront option, offering full-hookup RV sites next to a long-running restaurant and boat ramp. Fleetwood RV Park, Sunny Oaks RV Park, Big Tree RV Park, and Crossbow RV round out the private parks used by travelers staying near Lakeside.
For a state-park experience, Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park sits south of Lakeside near Keystone Heights, and Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park sits on the Atlantic coast in Jacksonville. Both are popular with families and book far ahead in cool-season months.
Things to do near Lakeside
Water is the main draw. Doctors Lake and the St. Johns River support bass fishing, kayaking, and boating, with public ramps in Fleming Island and Orange Park. Whitey's Fish Camp offers on-site boat, kayak, and paddleboard rentals and direct water access to Doctors Lake and the St. Johns.
On land, families head to Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park for 1.5 miles of Atlantic beach, 60 acres of freshwater lakes, mountain-bike trails, and a seasonal splash park. Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park adds swimming at Little Lake Johnson, canoeing, and about five miles of the Florida National Scenic Trail through rolling sandhills and old-growth longleaf pines.
Jacksonville itself is 20 to 30 minutes north for the zoo, the Riverwalk, and the museum district, and St. Augustine sits about an hour southeast for a full-day historic outing.

March - May
79° / 57°F 77 mmDriest stretch of the year; comfortable camping.
- summer
June - August
91° / 73°F 161 mmHot, humid, daily thunderstorms; hurricane season begins.

- winter
December - February
66° / 45°F 77 mmMild and dry; peak snowbird season, book early.
Peak RV season runs from October through April, when daytime highs typically sit in the 65 to 80°F range, humidity drops, and mosquitoes ease off. Snowbird demand pushes into private parks like Whitey's Fish Camp and drives long stays that limit weekly openings, so booking two to three months ahead is wise.
Summer, roughly June through September, brings highs in the low 90s, high humidity, and near-daily afternoon thunderstorms. This is also the heart of Atlantic hurricane season, which officially runs June 1 through November 30, with peak activity from mid-August through September. Coastal parks such as Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park can close on short notice during named storms.
Spring and fall are the shoulder seasons. Late spring is usually the driest stretch, while June through September brings the most rainfall in the Jacksonville area, with September typically the wettest month tied to tropical systems. Winter is mild, with occasional frost overnight but few sustained freezes.

Our first time renting an RV and we didn’t know what to expect. Delivery of the RV was prompt and Big Jeff set everything up for us. Many of the items we brought were already there for use which was really great. I’m particular about our pillows and towels so we brought those along with our toiletries but everything else was there! Fantastic experience and great service with the delivery, setup and tear down. Would highly recommend.

Meet all our expectations. Will definitely use Big Jeff for future needs.

How to book campgrounds near Lakeside
Private parks in the Lakeside area, including Whitey's Fish Camp, Fleetwood RV Park, Sunny Oaks RV Park, Big Tree RV Park, and Crossbow RV, handle reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Waterfront sites at Whitey's are limited and turn over slowly in winter, so call ahead rather than expecting walk-up availability.
Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park uses the Florida State Parks reservation system. Florida residents can book up to 11 months in advance, and non-residents up to 10 months, online at reserve.floridastateparks.org or by calling 800-326-3521. Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park is a City of Jacksonville park with its own online reservation portal and an office line at 904-255-6767; RV stays are capped at 30 nights within a 45-day period.
For holiday weekends and the January through March window, book as early as the system allows.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Lakeside is flat, sandy, and heavily wooded with pine and live oak. Most private parks offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, but sites can be tight and sandy, and shade varies by loop. Cell coverage is generally strong on all major carriers; Wi-Fi at parks is inconsistent.
At Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park, RVs must be self-contained with external water and electric connections, and sleeping in utility trailers is not permitted. State-park sites at Mike Roess Gold Head Branch include water and electricity on most loops, though sites 57 and 60-67 do not have electric.
Bring bug spray year-round. Mosquitoes and no-see-ums are heaviest from late spring through early fall, and alligators are present in most freshwater lakes and ponds, so keep pets and children back from the shoreline.

No commercial driver's license (CDL) or special endorsement is required for any motorhome or travel trailer you will find on RVezy, including Class A, Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, fifth wheels and toy haulers. Renters generally need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID inside the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included when I rent an RV in Lakeside, FL?
You can book with confidence: every RV rental in Lakeside, FL on RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance. The protection plan helps cover damage to the RV during your trip, so you are not on the hook for the full value of the motorhome if something goes wrong. During checkout you choose the coverage level that fits your trip, from a basic option to more comprehensive plans with lower deductibles. Pro tip: pick a higher tier if you are planning a Lakeside RV trip with kids, pets, or first-time drivers tackling I-295 around Jacksonville.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Lakeside RV rental?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every Lakeside RV rental, so you get consistent, renter-friendly terms across the platform rather than host-by-host rules. There is a money-back grace period right after you book, and cancellations made well before your trip start date are eligible for refunds based on how far out you cancel. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds guests or provides travel credits. If your plans shift, message your host first, then reach out to RVezy support. Pro tip: book early to lock in spring dates near Hanna Park, then adjust later if needed.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Lakeside, FL?
Absolutely, and your pup will love it. Plenty of hosts offer a pet-friendly RV rental in Lakeside, FL, so just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see motorhomes and trailers that welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Once you are on the road, Clay County has great options like Dog Wood Park of Jacksonville off I-295 for off-leash play, and Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park has pet-friendly areas (note: pets are not allowed on the beach or in the campground itself, so check current rules). Black Creek Trail in Middleburg is another easy leashed walk minutes from Lakeside. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and any breed or size limits, and pack a collapsible bowl, vet records, and a tie-out for shaded afternoons at the campsite.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lakeside%2C%20FloridaCan the RV be delivered right to my campsite or driveway in Lakeside?
Yes, and it is the easiest way to start an RV trip. RV delivery in Lakeside is offered by many RVezy hosts across Clay and Duval counties, which means the owner drives the rig to your driveway, your vacation rental, or directly to your campsite at places like Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park or Pecan Park RV Resort. They level the RV, hook up power and water, and walk you through everything from the awning to the propane. Just filter listings by Delivery, enter your address, and your delivery fee shows up before you book. Pro tip: delivery is a game changer if it is your first time renting an RV or you do not have a truck to tow a trailer.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lakeside%2C%20FloridaHow many miles can I drive, and is RV rental with unlimited mileage available?
You have options. Most Lakeside RV trip listings on RVezy include a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 miles per day), with extra miles available at a per-mile rate, and some hosts offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, especially for stationary stays at one campground. To put it in perspective: St. Augustine is about 50 miles away, Daytona Beach about 100 miles, Orlando around 160 miles, and Savannah, Georgia about 165 miles, so a typical weekend along the First Coast easily fits inside a standard allowance. Pro tip: if you are planning a longer Florida loop, sort listings by mileage policy and message the host to ask about a flat-rate package for the week.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lakeside%2C%20FloridaWhere are the best campgrounds near Lakeside, FL?
You are spoiled for choice. Some of the best campgrounds near Lakeside, FL include Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in Jacksonville, with around 290 campsites tucked between the Atlantic Ocean and freshwater lakes; Flamingo Lake RV Resort, a large lakefront resort with a beach, pool and restaurant about 25 miles north; Pecan Park RV Resort near the Jacksonville airport for easy interstate access; and Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park in Keystone Heights, a quieter inland option with lakes and trails. For a peaceful family vibe, Big Tree RV Park in Middleburg keeps you close to Lakeside. Pro tip: Hanna Park books up fast for spring and fall weekends, so reserve as soon as your dates are confirmed.
coj.net/departments/parks-and-recreationWhen is the best time to plan an RV trip from Lakeside, FL?
Lakeside is a year-round RV destination, but the sweet spot is October through April, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 65 to 80F range and humidity drops noticeably. Summers (June through September) push into the low 90s with heat index values often above 100F and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and it is Atlantic hurricane season. Winters are mild, with average highs near 65F and lows around 45F, perfect for camping in shorts by day and a hoodie by the fire at night. Pro tip: book a March or November Lakeside RV trip to dodge crowds at Hanna Park while still enjoying beach weather along Jacksonville's First Coast.
weather.gov/jax/I have never driven an RV before. Will I be okay starting from Lakeside?
You will be just fine, especially around Lakeside. The roads through Clay County, like Blanding Boulevard (FL-21) and County Road 220, are wide, flat, and easy for first-time RV drivers, and you can bypass downtown Jacksonville entirely by using I-295. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup covering hookups, slides, tanks, generator and driving tips, and you can message them anytime during your trip. If you are nervous about driving, request delivery and let the host park the rig for you. Pro tip: practice a few right turns and a parking-lot reverse before you head out, and pick a roomy first-night spot like Pecan Park RV Resort with easy pull-through sites.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are never stranded. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on US-17, a dead battery at Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park, or a tow off I-10 is one phone call away. You also have a direct line to your host, who knows the rig inside and out and can often troubleshoot small issues like a tripped breaker or a stuck slide over the phone. RVezy's support team is available before, during, and after your trip if anything bigger comes up. Pro tip: snap photos at pickup, save your host's number and the roadside assistance number to your phone, and confirm where the spare tire and tool kit live.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trip destinations from Lakeside, FL?
Lakeside is a perfect launch pad for a Florida RV road trip. From your driveway you can reach historic St. Augustine in about an hour (50 miles), Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach in around 75 minutes (60 miles), Daytona Beach in under two hours (100 miles), Okefenokee Swamp in southern Georgia in about 90 minutes (75 miles), and Savannah, GA in roughly three hours (165 miles). Heading south, Orlando's theme parks are a 160-mile shot down I-95 and the Florida Turnpike. Cross-border RV travel into other US states like Georgia is allowed on RVezy rentals; travel to Mexico is not permitted. Pro tip: loop St. Augustine, Daytona and Hanna Park for an easy week-long RV road trip from Lakeside.
visitflorida.com/What kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Budgeting is straightforward. Class C motorhomes around Lakeside average 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG) on gas, Class A rigs sit closer to 6 to 10 MPG, and a truck towing a travel trailer usually returns 9 to 13 MPG. Florida gas prices typically run near or just below the US average. A 300-mile weekend loop to St. Augustine and back in a Class C costs roughly $90 to $130 in fuel depending on current prices. Pro tip: fuel up at the Buc-ee's near Daytona Beach or the Pilot/Flying J on US-301 in Baldwin, where pumps are RV-friendly and prices are competitive.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Lakeside?
Earlier is better, but you have options. Florida State Parks like Mike Roess Gold Head Branch (about 30 miles southwest of Lakeside) and Anastasia State Park in St. Augustine open reservations 11 months in advance through the Florida State Parks reservation system (Reserve.com), and prime spring and holiday weekends fill quickly. City-run Hanna Park books through the City of Jacksonville and is best reserved 2 to 3 months out for weekends. Private parks like Flamingo Lake and Pecan Park usually have more flexibility, sometimes even a few days out. Pro tip: set a calendar alert exactly 11 months before your target date for a state park lakefront site, and have a backup private park ready for RV camping in Lakeside if it sells out.
floridastateparks.org/learn/reservationsWhat is driving an RV like around Lakeside and Jacksonville?
It is easier than most major Florida metros. Lakeside sits west of the Buckman Bridge, so you can reach the beaches, Hanna Park and the airport via I-295 without driving through downtown Jacksonville. Roads are flat and well-marked, and the terrain is essentially at sea level. Watch for two things: summer afternoon thunderstorms (pull over for 30 minutes and they usually pass), and bridge wind on the Buckman and Dames Point bridges when crossing the St. Johns River in a tall Class A or fifth wheel. Avoid the historic downtown core and watch low clearances near rail crossings. Pro tip: program your route into a truck/RV-specific GPS app like RV Life or CoPilot to dodge low bridges automatically.
fl511.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Lakeside?
Northeast Florida campgrounds are well equipped. Most parks near Lakeside, including Hanna Park, Flamingo Lake RV Resort, and Pecan Park, offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, and sewer at the site), Wi-Fi, laundry, hot showers, and dump stations. Many also feature swimming pools, fishing lakes, beaches and dog runs. Need to top off fresh water or dump tanks mid-trip? Many private parks and KOAs along I-95 sell day-use dump access. Pro tip: not every site is a pull-through, so when you book RV camping in Lakeside, check the site map for length, slide-out clearance, and whether you need 30-amp or 50-amp electric for your rental's air conditioner.
coj.net/departments/parks-and-recreationWhat features and amenities come standard in a Lakeside RV rental?
More than you might expect. A typical motorhome rental in Lakeside comes with a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, sleeping for 4 to 8 in queen, bunk or convertible dinette beds, air conditioning, furnace, fresh/grey/black water tanks, and seatbelts for everyone riding. Many include a TV, and hosts often add a generator, outdoor speakers, or Wi-Fi hotspots. Campervan rentals in Lakeside (Class B) are more compact, sleeping 2 to 3 with a kitchenette and wet bath, perfect for couples doing a coastal road trip. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count and amenities like generator or solar before booking, especially if you want to camp off-grid near the Ocala National Forest.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lakeside%2C%20FloridaWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts make it easy to customize your trip. Popular add-ons for an RV rental in Lakeside, FL include linen and kitchen kits (often $50 to $100), generators ($25 to $50 per day), bike racks, kayaks, outdoor grills, camping chairs, and tank-cleaning packages so you do not have to dump yourself ($50 to $150). Pickup is usually at the host's home in Lakeside, Orange Park or Middleburg, with check-in commonly in the early afternoon and return in the late morning. Mileage policies vary by host, with daily allowances or unlimited options for stationary trips. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a dump-fee add-on to make your first RV trip totally hands-off, and confirm fuel-return rules (most hosts ask for the tank to be returned full).
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lakeside%2C%20FloridaHow do payment and the security deposit work?
It is simpler than a traditional rental counter. When you book a Lakeside RV trip on RVezy, you pay securely through the platform with a credit or debit card, and your trip total (rental, fees, protection, add-ons) is shown clearly before you confirm. A refundable security deposit, separate from your booking payment and typically a few hundred to over a thousand dollars depending on the RV, is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after the host confirms the rig came back in good shape and on time. To avoid deposit issues, take date-stamped photos at pickup and return, refill the fuel and propane as agreed, and return on time. Pro tip: keep all messages with your host inside the RVezy app so everything is documented.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I take an RV rental from Lakeside into Georgia or down to the Keys?
Yes to both, with one important note. RVezy rentals are insured for travel throughout the United States, so a family RV trip from Lakeside up to Okefenokee Swamp and Savannah, Georgia or south to Key West (about 525 miles) is allowed. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance does not extend there. Always give your host a heads-up about your route so they can flag any mileage considerations. Pro tip: if you are heading to the Keys, book your Bahia Honda or Long Key state park campsite the moment the 11-month reservation window opens, and plan an overnight stop near Lake Okeechobee to break up the drive.
