Campgrounds near Macclenny, Florida
Macclenny sits along Interstate 10 in Baker County, roughly 30 miles west of Jacksonville and immediately east of the Osceola National Forest. The town serves as a practical base for RV travelers exploring north Florida's pine flatwoods, blackwater rivers, and Civil War history, with easy interstate access in both directions and US 90 running through the center of town.
The Osceola National Forest covers roughly 200,000 acres of pine flatwoods and cypress-hardwood swamps about 50 miles west of Jacksonville, in parts of Columbia, Baker, Bradford, and Hamilton counties. RV travelers in the area typically choose between private parks with full hookups and the national forest's developed campground on Ocean Pond.
Private options close to town include Island Oaks RV Resort, D&R RV Park & Equine Training Center, Crossbow RV, and Sunny Oaks RV Park. Farther south along I-75, Starke/Gainesville NE KOA Holiday offers a chain-standard stopover on the way to Gainesville and central Florida.
Things to do near Macclenny
Boating is very popular on Ocean Pond, and multiple campsites provide lakeside access for swimming, boating, and fishing. Speckled perch and largemouth bass are popular targets for anglers, and a boat ramp is available. A picnic pavilion area includes a BBQ grill and picnic tables, a swingset, and a beach area for swimmers.
A 28-mile section of the Florida National Scenic Trail runs through the forest, along with the Olustee Battlefield Trail, Trampled Track Trail, and Mt. Carrie Trail. The town of Olustee sits on the south side of Ocean Pond and is the site of the historic Battle of Olustee, reenacted on the forest each February during the annual Olustee Festival.
St. Marys Shoals Park preserves 2,568 acres with nearly two miles of tea-stained river frontage and white sandy shoals, and within the Osceola WMA the West Tower camping area includes horse stalls and provides access to more than 50 miles of equestrian trails, while Ocean Pond itself draws anglers for sunshine bass, boating, sailing, swimming, and water skiing.

North Florida has a subtropical climate with mild, drier winters and hot, humid, storm-prone summers. Late fall through early spring is the most comfortable window for RV camping, with daytime highs typically in the 60s and 70s Fahrenheit and low humidity. Snowbird traffic peaks from January through March, so private RV parks around Macclenny fill fastest during that stretch.
Summer, from June through September, is hot and muggy, with high humidity producing heat index values well above 100°F, and between late summer and early autumn the region can be affected by hurricanes or tropical storms. Afternoon thunderstorms are near-daily from June through August, and biting insects are heaviest in the same window.
General gun season on the Osceola National Forest runs from mid-November to early January, and during that time all camping is restricted to designated hunt camps and Ocean Pond Campground. Visitors sharing the forest with hunters should wear blaze orange.

How to book campgrounds near Macclenny
Ocean Pond Campground in the Osceola National Forest includes 64 campsites, and all sites are available at recreation.gov. Sites are divided into an Electric Section with 30- and 50-amp hookups plus water, a Water Section with potable water spigots, and a Primitive Section, with seven sites reservable in advance through Recreation.gov and the remaining sites operated first-come, first-served. Cash is not accepted, payment must be made through the Recreation.gov app, check-in is 2:00 p.m. ET and check-out is 11:00 a.m. ET, and campers occupying a site after 2:00 p.m. ET will be charged for the next 24 hours.
Private parks near Macclenny, including Island Oaks RV Resort, D&R RV Park & Equine Training Center, Crossbow RV, and Sunny Oaks RV Park, are booked directly through each operator by phone or website. Starke/Gainesville NE KOA Holiday takes reservations through the KOA network.
For peak winter and spring weekends, book six to eight weeks ahead. Group camping reservations on the national forest can be made by calling the Osceola Ranger District Office at (386) 752-2577.
What to expect
Sites around Macclenny range from full-hookup pull-throughs at private RV parks to shaded forest sites at Ocean Pond. Each of the 64 Ocean Pond campsites includes a parking slip large enough for most RVs, a picnic table, and a campfire ring with grill; the Electric Section adds a potable water spigot and 30- and 50-amp hookup, the Water Section provides a potable water spigot, and the Electric and Water bath houses have flush toilets and hot showers, while the Primitive Section restroom has flush toilets and sinks but no showers.
A sewage dump station is located near the campground entrance. Water and electric sites have paved spurs with a 50-foot capacity, so most Class A rigs fit but maneuvering larger rigs requires careful planning.
Expect Spanish moss, sandy soil, mosquitoes and no-see-ums after sunset, and alligators in area lakes and swamps. Cell service is generally reliable near I-10 and in town but spotty deep inside the forest.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Macclenny, FL
How much does an RV rental in Macclenny, FL typically cost?
RV rental in Macclenny, FL is one of the best values in Northeast Florida, with most travel trailers and campervans renting from about $95 to $175 per night, and larger Class A or Class C motorhomes running $200 to $325 per night. Because Macclenny sits in rural Baker County (not pricey beach territory like St. Augustine), you'll often pay less than you would in Jacksonville just 30 miles east. To find a cheap RV rental in Macclenny, book mid-week stays, look outside spring break and the April Watermelon Festival weekend, and filter by Instant Book to spot hosts who reward early planning. Pro tip: many local hosts include generators or basic camping gear, so factor that into your value comparison before booking.
visitflorida.com/listing/baker-county-tourist-development-council/31036/Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Macclenny, Florida?
Good news: a regular Florida driver's license (or any valid US/Canadian license) is all you need to rent an RV in Macclenny. Florida does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special endorsement for motorhomes or travel trailers used for personal recreation, regardless of size. To rent on RVezy you generally need to be 25 or older and approved as a driver, and ID verification happens right inside the platform during checkout, so there is no extra paperwork to chase down. Visiting from outside North America? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home country license. That is it, you are cleared to enjoy your Macclenny RV trip down US 90 or out to Ocean Pond.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included when I book an RV in Macclenny?
Every RV rental in Macclenny, FL booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered from the moment you pick up the keys. The protection plan provides meaningful financial protection against most damage to the RV during your trip, giving you genuine peace of mind whether you are heading into Osceola National Forest or up to the St. Marys River. You choose your level of coverage during checkout (not the host), so you can match it to your trip and comfort level. Pro tip: if you are a first-time renter, picking a higher coverage tier costs only a few dollars more per night and lets you focus on the adventure, not the what-ifs.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Macclenny RV rental?
You can book your Macclenny RV trip with confidence because RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy across the platform. That means consistent, transparent rules apply to every listing, including a money-back grace period right after booking so you can lock in your dates without second-guessing. Refund eligibility depends on how far out from your trip you cancel and the circumstances involved, which matters in North Florida where hurricane season runs June through November. Pro tip: book early to secure the best rigs for spring and fall in Baker County, and if a named storm threatens your dates, reach out to RVezy support right away. They are available before, during, and after every trip to help you find the right path forward.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Macclenny RV trip?
Absolutely, a pet-friendly RV rental in Macclenny is easy to find, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see hosts who happily welcome dogs (some allow cats too). Baker County is a fantastic place to travel with a pup: Ocean Pond Campground inside Osceola National Forest allows leashed dogs at campsites, and the sandy shoals along the St. Marys River at St. Marys Shoals Park give your dog miles of room to splash and sniff. Heritage Park Village in downtown Macclenny is also leash-friendly for a quick stretch. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and any size or breed preferences, and pack a tie-out plus old towels for sandy paws after the river.
fs.usda.gov/recarea/osceola/recreation/recarea/?recid=83524Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Macclenny?
Yes, RV delivery in Macclenny is one of the smartest ways to start a stress-free trip, especially if it's your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will drive the rig directly to Ocean Pond Campground, St. Marys Cove, or even your driveway in Macclenny, level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. That means no towing nerves on I-10 and no fumbling with the awning at sunset. Delivery fees usually scale with distance, so picking a campground close to town (Ocean Pond is about 30 minutes west) keeps costs low. Pro tip: filter listings by Delivery on RVezy and ask the host to include a quick generator and slide-out demo during setup.
fs.usda.gov/recarea/osceola/recreation/camping-cabins/recarea/?recid=83524&actid=29How far can I drive on a Macclenny RV rental, and what about mileage limits?
You've got room to roam from Macclenny, FL, and many hosts offer generous mileage allowances (often 100 to 150 free miles per night), with some even offering RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer trips. That's perfect because Macclenny sits right on Interstate 10, making it an ideal launchpad: Jacksonville is about 30 miles east, St. Augustine roughly 70 miles southeast, Gainesville around 75 miles south, and the Okefenokee Swamp just 45 miles north across the Georgia line. Each listing shows the daily mileage allotment and the per-mile rate if you go over. Pro tip: map your full route before booking, then message the host to ask about a flat-rate mileage bundle if you're planning a bigger RV road trip from Macclenny.
fdot.gov/agencyresources/mapsWhere are the best campgrounds near Macclenny to park my RV?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in Macclenny. Top picks include: Ocean Pond Campground inside Osceola National Forest (about 30 minutes west, with 67 waterfront sites, electric hookups, a swim beach, and hot showers); St. Mary's Cove on Steel Bridge Road (a laid-back riverfront park with WiFi and sandy beach access, sites from about $35); Big Tree RV Park (a quiet, full-hookup option close to town); and Flamingo Lake RV Resort just south in Jacksonville for a resort-style stay. For a budget-friendly base, St. Mary's Shoals Park offers primitive riverside sites. Pro tip: Ocean Pond books up fast for fall and spring weekends on Recreation.gov, so reserve six months out for the best waterfront spurs.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234077When is the best time of year for a Macclenny RV trip?
The sweet spot for an RV trip in Macclenny is October through April, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 65 to 78 degree range, humidity drops, and mosquitoes back off. This is prime hiking weather for the Florida National Scenic Trail through Osceola National Forest and paddling weather for the tea-stained St. Marys River. Summer (June to September) is hot and humid with highs in the low 90s and afternoon thunderstorms, but RVs with strong AC handle it just fine and you'll find lower nightly rates. April brings the famous Baker County Watermelon Festival in downtown Macclenny, a one-of-a-kind small-town event worth timing your trip around. Pro tip: book a riverfront site at Ocean Pond for late October, when the cypress trees start turning rusty gold.
weather.gov/jax/I've never rented an RV before, will I be okay driving around Macclenny?
You'll do great, first time renting an RV in Macclenny is honestly one of the easier places in Florida to learn. The area has flat terrain, wide rural roads, and easy on/off access to Interstate 10 and US 90, so you won't be navigating mountain passes or tight city streets. Your host will give you a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, hookups, propane, and dumping, and you'll have their number plus RVezy's 24/7 support if any question pops up later. Pro tip: practice a few right and left turns in the Walmart Supercenter lot on South 6th Street before heading west on US 90 toward Ocean Pond. Twenty minutes of practice and you'll feel like a pro.
flhsmv.gov/safety-center/driving-safety/What if something breaks down during my Macclenny RV trip?
You are never on your own. Every RV rental in Macclenny, FL booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on I-10, a dead battery at Ocean Pond, or a stuck slide-out is just a phone call away from being solved. Your host is also a great first call for quirks specific to their rig (most answer within minutes), and RVezy support is available before, during, and after the trip if you need backup. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number in your phone before you leave town, and note the nearest service options in Macclenny (along US 90) and Lake City (about 30 minutes west on I-10) just in case.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take a Macclenny RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, an RV road trip from Macclenny across state lines is a popular play, you're just 12 miles south of the Georgia border, so a trip to the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge in Folkston, GA or up to Savannah is well within reach. Most US states are fair game, and many hosts welcome multi-state itineraries through the Carolinas or Alabama; just confirm your full route with the host before booking. Travel into Canada may be allowed on some listings depending on the host and protection coverage, so message before you book if that's the plan. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because protection coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: Cumberland Island and Jekyll Island are both easy overnight runs north into Georgia.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat kind of fuel mileage will my Macclenny RV get, and what should I budget?
Plan ahead and fuel won't surprise you. Class B campervan rentals in Macclenny typically get 16 to 20 mpg, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 mpg, travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 mpg combined), and large Class A rigs run 6 to 9 mpg. Florida gas prices tend to track close to the national average, and you'll find competitive diesel and gasoline at the truck stops near the Macclenny exit on I-10. For a typical 4-night trip with a Class C exploring Ocean Pond and Jacksonville Beach, budget around $120 to $200 in fuel. Pro tip: GasBuddy consistently shows the Pilot and Flash Foods on US 90 as some of the cheapest fill-ups in Baker County.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Macclenny?
For the most popular sites, book 4 to 6 months ahead, especially Ocean Pond Campground in Osceola National Forest, which uses Recreation.gov and releases sites on a 6-month rolling window. Waterfront spurs at Ocean Pond go fast for October through April weekends and during hunting season (mid-November to early January, when general camping is restricted to designated hunt camps and Ocean Pond). Private parks like St. Mary's Cove and Big Tree RV Park are more flexible and often have availability with just a week or two of notice. Pro tip: if your dates are locked, reserve your campsite first, then book your RVezy rental, that way you know exactly how long the rig needs to be and which hookups (30 or 50 amp) to filter for.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234077What are driving conditions like in and around Macclenny?
Driving conditions around Macclenny are about as RV-friendly as Florida gets. The terrain is flat, the main routes (Interstate 10 and US 90) are well-maintained with wide shoulders, and there are no mountain grades or tight switchbacks to worry about. Watch for two things: sudden afternoon thunderstorms from June through September (pull off and wait them out, they pass in 20 to 30 minutes), and wildlife crossings at dawn and dusk on the rural roads near Osceola National Forest, deer and the occasional black bear do roam Baker County. Bridge clearances on I-10 are RV-friendly (typically 16+ feet). Pro tip: avoid the Jacksonville I-295 beltway during 4 to 6 PM weekday rush if you're heading east toward the beaches.
fl511.com/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Macclenny?
Campgrounds near Macclenny range from full-hookup resorts to wild riverside primitive sites, so you can pick the experience you want. Ocean Pond Campground offers electric and water hookups on paved spurs, hot showers, flush toilets, drinking water, a swim beach, and a boat ramp, but no sewer at the site (use the on-site dump station). St. Mary's Cove provides WiFi and riverfront access. Private parks like Big Tree RV Park typically offer 30/50 amp full hookups including sewer. For dumping and water fills between trips, the Ocean Pond dump station and several gas stations along US 90 are reliable options. Pro tip: confirm your RV's amp service (30 vs 50) with your host before booking the campsite so you grab the right hookup type.
fs.usda.gov/recarea/osceola/recreation/camping-cabins/recarea/?recid=83524&actid=29What features and amenities come with a typical RV rental in Macclenny?
Most motorhome rentals in Macclenny come fully equipped for comfortable Florida camping: a real bed (queen is common), full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave and sink, a bathroom with shower and toilet, roof AC (crucial for Florida humidity), forced-air heat, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many also include a generator for boondocking at St. Mary's Shoals or hunt camps, an awning for shade at Ocean Pond, and a TV. WiFi is hit-or-miss depending on the rig and cell coverage (Verizon and AT&T are strongest in Baker County). Each RVezy listing spells out exactly what's included plus the sleep count and seatbelt count. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps for your group size, and message the host to confirm linens, kitchenware, and outdoor chairs are included.
fmcsa.dot.gov/regulationsWhat add-ons and pickup options should I look for when I rent an RV in Macclenny?
When you rent an RV in Macclenny, hosts often offer practical add-ons that make life easier: linen and towel packages ($30 to $75), kitchen kits, generator use, bike racks, camping chairs and tables, propane refills, and even pre-stocked firewood. Pickup is typically at the host's location near Macclenny or right off I-10, and many hosts offer delivery to Ocean Pond, St. Mary's Cove, or your driveway for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary by listing (100 to 150 free miles per night is common), and some hosts offer flat-rate mileage bundles for longer Florida loops. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a linen package on your first trip, you'll arrive to a fully made-up RV ready to enjoy, which is worth every penny for a family RV trip in Macclenny.
visitflorida.com/listing/baker-county-tourist-development-council/31036/How does payment and the security deposit work for a Macclenny RV rental?
Payment is simple and secure: when you book your RV rental in Macclenny, FL on RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, no cash or off-platform transfers ever needed. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig), which protects the host against incidentals and is released after the trip wraps up cleanly. To avoid any deposit hiccups: take date-stamped photos of the RV inside and out at pickup and dropoff, return it with the same fuel and propane level, dump the tanks if your agreement requires it, and clean up after pets. Pro tip: keep all communication inside RVezy messaging, it creates a clear record and makes resolving any post-trip question quick and painless.
