Campgrounds near Mims, Florida
Mims sits at the north end of Brevard County on Florida's Space Coast, roughly a half-hour drive from the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex and directly off Interstate 95. The town serves as a quiet base for RV travelers who want proximity to launch viewing, Canaveral National Seashore, and the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge without staying inside the busier Titusville or Cocoa Beach corridors.
Private RV parks dominate the local supply. Titusville / Kennedy Space Center KOA Journey is the closest option, offering full-hookup pull-throughs, a pool, and cabin rentals. Cape Kennedy RV Resort sits under mature oaks a short drive from I-95, and Seasons in the Sun RV Resort, Indian River RV Park, and Whispering Pines round out the nearby choices with a mix of short-stay and long-stay sites.
Public camping in the area is limited. Canaveral National Seashore offers only primitive island camping in Mosquito Lagoon, and RV or vehicle camping is not permitted within the seashore, so RV travelers rely on the private parks in and around Mims and Titusville.
Things to do around Mims
Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex anchors most itineraries, with the Rocket Garden, Space Shuttle Atlantis exhibit, and bus tours of the launch complexes. Scheduled rocket launches from Cape Canaveral and KSC are visible from public viewing spots along the Indian River in Titusville, and launch schedules are posted weeks in advance.
Canaveral National Seashore protects a long stretch of undeveloped Atlantic beach at Playalinda and Apollo. The adjacent Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge has a wildlife drive, manatee observation deck, and trails through coastal hammock and marsh.
For rainy afternoons or off-park time, families can visit the American Space Museum in downtown Titusville, kayak Haulover Canal for manatee sightings, or fish the Indian River Lagoon from public piers.

The Space Coast has a humid subtropical climate, characterized by hot summers and mild winters. Peak RV season runs from December through April, when daytime highs sit in the seventies, humidity is manageable, and snowbirds fill many parks for weeks or months at a time. Sites at the closest parks to Kennedy Space Center often book out well in advance for this window, particularly around holidays and scheduled launches.
Summer brings daily thunderstorms, high humidity, and afternoon highs near 90. It is also the core of Atlantic hurricane season, which runs June 1 through November 30 and peaks from mid-August through October. Travelers should monitor the National Hurricane Center and be prepared to relocate inland if a storm approaches.
Spring and fall are shoulder seasons with lighter crowds. Late spring can bring lovebug swarms, and mosquitoes intensify in the lagoon areas from May onward.

Booking a campsite near Mims
Private parks around Mims accept reservations directly through their websites or by phone, and most also list availability on major RV booking platforms. For winter stays, especially at Titusville / Kennedy Space Center KOA Journey and Cape Kennedy RV Resort, reserve several months out. Launch dates trigger short-notice surges, so check the KSC launch schedule before locking in nonrefundable nights.
Backcountry island campsites at Canaveral National Seashore are available by reservation only through Recreation.gov, up to six months in advance, and require a permit. Permits must be printed from Recreation.gov before entering the campsite. These sites are boat-access only and unsuitable for RVs, but they can add a night to a mixed itinerary.
What to expect on the ground
Most parks near Mims offer full hookups with 30 and 50-amp service, dump stations, laundry, Wi-Fi, and pools. Sites at Titusville / Kennedy Space Center KOA Journey are big-rig friendly with pull-throughs, and Cape Kennedy RV Resort provides shade under oaks draped in Spanish moss. Long-term residents make up a significant share of some parks, so ask about site placement if that matters for the stay.
Cell coverage and over-the-air TV are generally good throughout Mims and Titusville. Groceries, fuel, propane, and RV supplies are available along US-1 and near the I-95 interchange. Mosquitoes and no-see-ums are persistent near the lagoon from spring through fall, so pack repellent and screens.

Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, so check forecasts and consider shoulder months like March, April, and October for the best weather-to-price ratio.
weather.gov/mlb/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay renting in Mims?
You've got this, first time renting an RV is way easier than most people expect, especially in Mims. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving tips, slide-outs, water and waste systems, the generator, and what to do in any situation. Mims itself is a great place to start: US-1 and I-95 are flat, wide, and well-marked, with plenty of gas stations and pull-through stops between here and the Space Coast beaches. If you'd rather skip the driving entirely on day one, pick a host who delivers. Pro tip: do a slow loop around the campground parking lot before heading out to practice mirrors and turning, your confidence will jump fast.

Your host is also just a message away through the RVezy app and can usually troubleshoot small issues like a tripped breaker or a finicky awning. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN, license plate, and any model numbers during your walkthrough, that info speeds up roadside calls and gets you back to your trip faster.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Mims RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, most hosts in Mims allow interstate travel, so a Georgia, South Carolina, or even all-the-way-to-Maine adventure is on the table. Popular cross-state routes from Mims include the Atlantic coast up through Savannah and Charleston, the Gulf Coast loop via Tampa and Pensacola, and the Smoky Mountains run into Tennessee. Travel into Canada may be allowed with specific host approval and insurance confirmation, so message them before booking. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because the protection plan and insurance do not extend there. Pro tip: confirm your route in writing through RVezy messages so everything is documented and you can focus on the drive.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Budgeting fuel for your Mims RV trip is straightforward once you know the ranges. Campervans average 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, Class A coaches run 6 to 10 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (often 10 to 14 MPG while towing). Florida gas prices typically sit near the national average, and you'll find competitive pumps along US-1 in Mims and at the Wawa and RaceTrac stations near I-95 Exit 223. Pro tip: diesel motorhomes can be cheaper per mile on longer trips, and apps like GasBuddy will steer you to the lowest prices between here and your destination. Build a small buffer for generator fuel too.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Mims?
For the best campgrounds near Mims, the earlier the better, especially around rocket launches. Florida State Parks open reservations 11 months ahead through the Florida State Parks reservation system, and they fill fast for winter and spring breaks. Brevard County parks like Manatee Hammock and Long Point can be booked about 6 months out through the county's reservation system. Private parks like KOA Titusville and Jetty Park usually have more availability but still sell out around major launches and holidays. Pro tip: if you are chasing a SpaceX or NASA launch, book your site the moment the launch window is announced, then build your RV rental Florida plans around it. Flexibility on dates is your secret weapon.
floridastateparks.org/learn/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Mims and the Space Coast?
Driving an RV around Mims is refreshingly easy: the terrain is flat, the roads are wide, and I-95 plus US-1 give you straight shots north to Jacksonville and south to Miami. Watch for sudden afternoon thunderstorms from June through September, which can drop heavy rain in minutes, just pull off at a rest stop and wait 20 minutes for it to pass. Hurricane season (June 1 to November 30) is worth monitoring, but most storms give days of warning. Coastal causeways like the Max Brewer Bridge to Merritt Island have crosswinds, so slow down a bit. Pro tip: avoid driving the day before or after a major Kennedy Space Center launch, traffic on US-1 and SR-405 backs up significantly.

Expect full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer) at Manatee Hammock, KOA Titusville, and Jetty Park, along with hot showers, laundry, dump stations, and potable water fill-up spigots. State park campgrounds usually offer water and electric plus a centralized dump station. Most also have Wi-Fi near the office, picnic tables, and fire rings. If you need to dump or refill between stops, the Titusville KOA and Jetty Park allow non-guest dump access for a small fee. Many listings include a generator for boondocking near Canaveral National Seashore, a TV with streaming, outdoor speakers, awning, and even bikes or beach chairs. Wi-Fi varies, some hosts include a hotspot, others rely on your phone's data. Pro tip: read the listing's amenities list carefully and message the host about any must-haves like a backup camera, leveling system, or coffee maker before you book.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options should I expect when I rent an RV in Mims?
Hosts in Mims offer lots of ways to customize your trip. Common add-ons include delivery and setup, generator hours, bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, bike or kayak rentals, and outdoor gear bundles, perfect for a beach day at Playalinda or paddling the Indian River Lagoon. Pickup is usually at the host's location near Mims or Titusville, with most check-ins between 1 and 4 PM and check-outs around 11 AM, though many hosts are flexible if you ask. Mileage policies vary by listing, with typical packages of 100 to 150 free miles per day and a few unlimited-mileage options for longer Florida loops. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a generator add-on if you're chasing a rocket launch, you'll thank yourself at 3 AM.
kennedyspacecenter.com/How does payment and the security deposit work for an RVezy rental in Mims?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which keeps everything protected and documented. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment before pickup (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) and released after the trip once the host confirms there is no damage and the RV comes back in the same condition. To avoid surprises, do a quick walkaround video at pickup and drop-off, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and dump the tanks if your agreement requires it. Pro tip: ask the host upfront about cleaning fees and dump-station policies so your deposit comes back fast and full.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park an RV in Mims for the night without a campground reservation?
Mims gives you several solid overnight options if campgrounds are full. The Walmart Supercenter in nearby Titusville traditionally allows free overnight RV parking (always call ahead and park toward the back of the lot), and several Cracker Barrel locations along I-95 do the same. Cabela's and some larger truck stops like the Pilot at Exit 215 also welcome overnighters. For a more scenic, legal stay, look at dispersed camping options in the Tosohatchee Wildlife Management Area about 45 minutes inland. Brevard County and the city of Titusville prohibit overnight parking on public streets and beaches, so stick to designated lots. Pro tip: Harvest Hosts members can stay overnight at participating farms and wineries within an hour of Mims, a fun and quiet alternative.
