Campgrounds and RV parks near Ormond-by-the-Sea, FL

Beach access is the main draw: hard-packed sand allows driving in designated zones, and swimming, surfing, and shell-hunting are all standard activities. Tomoka State Park offers a half-mile interpretive trail through a hardwood hammock, a boat ramp, and kayak and canoe rentals at the Tomoka Outpost camp store. Birdwatchers can look for herons, egrets, and migratory species; more than 160 species have been recorded at Tomoka State Park, with spring and fall migrations the most active periods. Anglers target red drum, black drum, sheepshead, spotted seatrout, snook, and tarpon in the Tomoka River and Intracoastal. Day trips include Bulow Creek State Park and the Fairchild Oak to the north, the Ormond Scenic Loop and Trail, and Daytona Beach attractions to the south. Kennedy Space Center and St. Augustine are both within about an hour and a half by car.

Winter and early spring are peak season. Snowbirds from the northeast and Canada book monthly stays at private parks from roughly November through March, and Tomoka State Park sites are frequently full on weekends. Daytime highs are mild, humidity drops, and biting insects are minimal. Spring shoulder months bring warmer temperatures, active fishing, and heavier demand around Daytona Bike Week in early March and Speedweeks in February. Rates and availability across the corridor tighten during these event weekends, so booking well in advance is important. Biketoberfest in mid-October adds another busy stretch in fall. Summer is hot and humid with near-daily afternoon thunderstorms and higher mosquito pressure in the hammock at Tomoka. Hurricane season runs June through November, with peak risk in August, September, and October; travelers should monitor National Hurricane Center advisories and check park closure notices, since Florida State Parks may close campgrounds ahead of tropical systems. Late fall cools quickly and reopens the best window for comfortable camping.

At Tomoka State Park, expect a narrow one-way loop with one hundred sites on hard-packed sand, each with a picnic table, grill, water, and electric hookup. There is no sewer at the site, but a dump station is located within the park, and three bathhouses have hot showers. Tight turns and shallow sites make it a poor fit for larger rigs. Private parks in the Ormond corridor are typically flatter and more open, with full hookups and paved or gravel pads. Shade varies, and coastal sites can be breezy. Bring insect repellent for warm-weather visits, plan for afternoon storms in summer, and expect a park-entry vehicle fee at Florida State Parks in addition to the campsite fee. Rattlesnakes are present in hammock and grassland areas, so watch footing off-trail.
