Campgrounds and RV parks near Pierson, FL

The St. Johns River is the center of gravity here. Bass fishing, pontoon rentals, and airboat tours run from Astor and DeLand, and paddlers launch canoes and kayaks from riverside ramps. St Johns River Campground and Pine Island RV and Marina both put renters within a short walk of boat access. Ocala National Forest sits to the west along SR 40. The surrounding recreation area supports swimming, picnicking, canoeing, snorkeling, hiking, birding, and wildlife viewing. Juniper Springs, Alexander Springs, and Salt Springs all hold a steady 72 degrees, and Juniper Run is a popular half-day paddle. South of town, Blue Spring State Park is the main winter draw. The first-magnitude spring is one of the largest winter gathering sites for manatees in Florida, where hundreds of animals congregate in the constant 72-degree spring water during the coldest months.

Winter and early spring are the peak seasons for RV travel in this part of Florida. Cool, dry days between November and March make outdoor time comfortable, and manatees congregate at Blue Spring. Manatee season officially runs November 15 to March 31, when manatees rely on the spring's constant 72°F water for survival, and water activities in the spring run are prohibited during that window. State park sites and cabins book well ahead during these months. Late spring and summer bring heat, humidity, and daily thunderstorms, with high temperatures often in the 90s. The trade-off is clear: the spring run at Blue Spring is open for swimming from April 1 through November 14, and crowds thin at private campgrounds. Fall is the quietest window for Ocala National Forest camping, with fewer crowds and gradually cooling temperatures. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, so travelers should watch NHC forecasts and confirm site availability after major storms.

Private parks around Pierson lean rustic and quiet, with a mix of full-time residents and seasonal travelers. Sites are typically shaded by oaks and pines, and many offer full hookups with 30- and 50-amp service. St Johns River Campground provides 50-amp electric, water, and sewer hookups, and can accommodate larger rigs. Ocala National Forest campgrounds are more basic. Juniper Springs has no full-hookup sites, though amenities include hot showers, flush toilets, and a dump station. Salt Springs is the exception in the forest, offering RV hookups. Alexander Springs accommodates tents and RVs up to about 35 feet. Expect wildlife: alligators along the river, black bears in the forest, and mosquitoes in warmer months. Food storage rules are enforced in Ocala National Forest, and cell service can drop inside the forest, so download maps and reservations before arrival.
