Camping near Princeton, Florida
Princeton sits in southern Miami-Dade County between the city of Miami and the northern edge of Everglades National Park. The area is agricultural, with avocado, mango, and palm groves surrounding most RV parks, and it functions as a practical base for visiting two national parks and the upper Florida Keys.
RV travelers typically choose between full-hookup private resorts close to Princeton and Homestead, and the no-hookup national park campground inside Everglades. Miami Everglades RV Resort covers roughly thirty-four acres among avocado, mango, and palm trees, with Everglades National Park less than 10 miles away and Key Largo about 30 miles to the south. Goldcoaster RV Resort, Southern Comfort RV Resort, and The Boardwalk sit a few miles further south near Florida City in the same cluster.
Long Pine Key Campground is located about seven miles from the main entrance to Everglades National Park near Homestead, just off the main park road, making it the closest in-park option for RVs willing to dry camp.
Things to do near Princeton
Everglades National Park is the primary draw. From Long Pine Key or a private resort in Princeton, day trips reach the Anhinga Trail, Pa-hay-okee Overlook, and the Flamingo area for boat tours, kayaking, and Florida Bay wildlife viewing. Boat options include airboat tours outside the park, a backcountry boat tour through mangrove forests, and a Florida Bay tour where wildlife ranges from flamingos to dolphins.
Biscayne National Park, most of which is water, is a short drive east from Homestead and offers snorkeling, paddling, and boat tours to the reef and keys. Key Largo, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, and the rest of the Keys are within an easy drive south.
Closer to camp, families use Zoo Miami, Monkey Jungle, and Fruit and Spice Park in the Redland agricultural district for shorter outings.

South Florida has two clear seasons that shape any RV trip. The winter dry season runs roughly November through April and brings pleasant temperatures, fewer mosquitoes, and more visible wildlife. This is when private resorts near Princeton fill with snowbirds and short-term visitors, and booking eight to twelve weeks ahead for winter weekends is realistic.
The summer wet season, roughly mid-May through mid-October, is the park's slow period. Temperatures and humidity climb, mosquitoes become intense, and afternoon thunderstorms are near-daily. The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs June through November, with the September peak occasionally forcing closures or evacuations.
Inside Everglades National Park, the seasonal impact is direct: Long Pine Key Campground is open seasonally November through May and closes for the wet season. Private resorts near Princeton and Homestead, including Miami Everglades RV Resort, Goldcoaster RV Resort, Southern Comfort RV Resort, and The Boardwalk, generally operate year-round, though summer occupancy drops sharply.

I recently had the pleasure of renting Mark and Cyndi's RV for a two-week vacation across Florida, and I cannot recommend them enough! The entire process, from the initial inquiry to returning the RV, was seamless, professional, and friendly. The RV: Their RV was in pristine condition and exceptionally clean. It was evident that they take great pride in maintaining their vehicle. They also provided a comprehensive guidebook and videos, which were extremely helpful during the trip. Additionally, they were always just a phone call away whenever I needed assistance or had questions.

How to book a site
Private resorts near Princeton take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, and most accept standard online booking with a deposit. Miami Everglades RV Resort is part of the Encore/Thousand Trails network, so members can also book through that portal. From April 15 through September 15, reservations at Miami Everglades are capped at a maximum stay of 14 days per site.
Long Pine Key uses a separate system. The campground does not offer reservations through Recreation.gov. Bookings are handled by Flamingo Adventures, the park concessionaire, by phone or through its website, and sites not booked in advance are available first come, first served on the day of arrival.
For winter travel, reserve private resorts as early as possible and book Long Pine Key when the concessionaire opens the season.
What to expect on-site
The private resorts near Princeton are full-service. Miami Everglades RV Resort includes a heated pool, hot tub, large clubhouse and pavilion, free cable TV, laundry, and Wi-Fi, with pull-through sites, 30 and 50 amp service, and full hookups. Goldcoaster RV Resort, Southern Comfort RV Resort, and The Boardwalk offer similar full-hookup sites with restrooms, showers, and shared amenities aimed at longer-stay guests. Expect gated entrances and paved or gravel pads.
Long Pine Key is the opposite experience. The campground has no hookups, so it suits dry camping only, though a dump station and potable water fill are on site. Quiet hours run 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and generator use is limited to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Bug spray, full fresh-water tanks, and charged batteries are standard preparation.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Princeton, FL
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Princeton, FL?
RV rental in Princeton is affordable thanks to a strong host community just south of Miami. Travel trailers typically run $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes average $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A rigs land between $250 and $400. To find a cheap RV rental in Princeton, look at mid-week pickups, shoulder months like late April to early June, and listings offering weekly or monthly discounts. Many hosts bundle add-ons like camp chairs, generators, and kitchen kits for less than buying separately. Filter for Instant Book and message hosts directly about multi-night discounts to maximize value before your Everglades or Keys trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Princeton%2C%20FloridaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Princeton, FL?
A regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Princeton, even for larger Class A motorhomes. Florida does not require a commercial driver's license or any special RV endorsement for recreational vehicles under 26,000 pounds, which covers virtually every rig on RVezy. Renters generally need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID securely during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit along with your home-country license. Most first-time renters are surprised at how straightforward the process is compared to renting a standard car.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs protection or insurance included with my Princeton, FL RV rental?
Yes, every RV rental in Princeton booked through RVezy includes a protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road with real peace of mind. The protection plan helps cover physical damage to the vehicle and provides financial reassurance during your trip. During booking, you (not the host) choose your level of protection to match your comfort level and trip type. That makes a Florida RV trip feel much less stressful, especially when you are navigating the causeways down to the Keys or the entrance road into Everglades National Park.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my RV rental in Princeton, FL?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy, not the host, manages cancellation policies, and there is a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. Cancellation outcomes depend on how far in advance you cancel and the circumstances. If a named storm threatens Miami-Dade County, the RVezy support team works with guests on solutions. You will see the full policy details at checkout, and the 24/7 customer support team is available before, during, and after your trip. Book the dates you want, then refine your plans as your Princeton RV trip gets closer.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Princeton, FL?
Yes, pet-friendly RV rental in Princeton is easy to find thanks to a high concentration of dog-loving hosts in South Miami-Dade County. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see motorhomes and trailers that welcome four-legged travelers. Once on the road, your pup is welcome at many local spots, including Larry and Penny Thompson Park's wooded loops and Homestead Bayfront Park. Note that pets are not allowed on most Everglades National Park trails, but they are welcome in developed campgrounds at Flamingo and Long Pine Key on a 6-foot leash. Pack a collapsible bowl and a cooling mat for summer heat, and you are good to go.
nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/pets.htmCan the RV be delivered to my campground or hotel in Princeton, FL?
Yes, RV delivery in Princeton is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who would rather skip driving a big rig through Miami traffic. Many local hosts will deliver and set up at Larry and Penny Thompson Campground, Miami Everglades RV Resort, or directly to a private driveway in Homestead, Florida City, or the Redland. Hosts set their own delivery fees based on distance, and many offer discounted delivery within a short radius. Filter by Delivery on RVezy and message the host with your address for a quote. You arrive, they set up, walk you through everything, and your Florida RV trip begins stress-free.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Princeton%2C%20FloridaDo RV rentals in Princeton, FL come with unlimited mileage?
Many do. Plenty of Princeton-area hosts offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, while others include a daily allowance (typically 100-150 miles per day) with a small per-mile fee beyond that. Mileage policies are clearly shown on each listing, so you can compare before you book. For context, Princeton sits about 12 miles from Everglades National Park's main entrance, 35 miles from downtown Miami, 60 miles to Key Largo, and roughly 160 miles to Key West, so most week-long trips fit comfortably within an included allowance. If you are planning an RV road trip from Princeton to the Keys and back, filter for unlimited mileage listings or ask the host about a flat mileage package upfront.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Princeton%2C%20FloridaWhere are the best campgrounds near Princeton, FL?
You have excellent options for RV camping near Princeton within a short drive. Larry and Penny Thompson Memorial Park (about 8 miles north) offers hundreds of full-hookup sites in a wooded Miami-Dade County park with a lake. Miami Everglades RV Resort in Homestead is roughly 6 miles away and features a pool, paved sites, and full hookups. Long Pine Key Campground inside Everglades National Park (about 18 miles) offers rustic sites with a dump station and potable water fill. Flamingo Campground at the southern tip of the park has electric pull-through RV sites and Florida Bay views. For Keys access, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park sits about 45 minutes south with snorkeling right outside your door.
nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/camping.htmWhen is the best time to rent an RV in Princeton, FL?
The sweet spot for an RV trip out of Princeton is mid-November through mid-April, when daytime temperatures average a comfortable 72-82F, humidity drops, and mosquitoes back off enough to enjoy the Everglades. This is peak season for South Florida, so campsites fill fast and rates run higher. For lower prices and fewer crowds, target late October or early May with daytime highs in the mid-80s. Summer (June to October) is hot, humid, and overlaps with hurricane season, but it is also the cheapest time to rent and great for Florida Keys beach trips if you watch the forecast. Insider tip: January through March is prime alligator-spotting season on the Anhinga Trail.
weather.gov/mfl/climateI have never driven an RV before. Will I be okay renting in Princeton, FL?
You will do great, and you are not on your own. Every RVezy host gives you a full pickup orientation, walking you through driving, hookups, slide-outs, and the dump valve before you leave the driveway. For first-time renters in Princeton, FL, the area is actually friendly to learn in: US-1 south toward the Keys and SW 344th Street out to the Everglades are flat, wide, and straight. If Miami highway driving makes you nervous, book a host who offers delivery so the RV arrives ready to camp. You can message any host with questions before booking, and the RVezy support team plus 24/7 roadside assistance are one tap away the entire trip.
flhsmv.gov/safety-center/driving-safety/What if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You are never stranded. Every RV rental in Princeton comes with 24/7 roadside assistance included as part of the RVezy protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. If something mechanical comes up, your host is your first call since they know their rig best, and RVezy customer support is available around the clock to coordinate help. South Florida has dense service coverage, so help from Homestead, Florida City, or Miami is usually nearby, even if you are inside Everglades National Park. Save the roadside number in your phone before you leave the driveway and enjoy the ride knowing backup is built in.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Princeton, FL RV rental to the Florida Keys or other states?
Yes, and it is one of the best things about renting here. Popular routes for an RV road trip from Princeton include Key Largo (about 45 minutes south), Marathon (about 2 hours), and Key West (roughly 3.5 hours one-way along the Overseas Highway). You can also head up the Gulf Coast to Naples (about 2 hours), Fort Myers (about 3 hours), or roll north to Orlando in about 4 hours. Most hosts allow travel throughout Florida and into neighboring states. Travel into Mexico is not allowed because insurance coverage does not extend across that border. Always confirm out-of-state plans with your host in the message thread before booking.
fla-keys.com/travel-tips/How much should I budget for fuel on an RV trip from Princeton, FL?
Fuel is one of the biggest line items, so plan smart. Class C motorhomes around Princeton typically get 8-10 mpg, Class A rigs get 6-8 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10-14 mpg). Florida gas prices generally hover near the national average; expect to fill up along the Turnpike or in Homestead before heading into the Everglades, where stations are scarce. For a 7-day, 500-mile loop down to Key West and back, budget roughly $250-$400 in fuel for a Class C. Apps like GasBuddy can help you find the lowest local prices on Florida fill-ups.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Princeton, FL?
Book early, especially for the Everglades. Long Pine Key and Flamingo campgrounds inside Everglades National Park release reservations through recreation.gov, and peak winter weekends (December to April) sell out months in advance. Florida State Parks like John Pennekamp Coral Reef are bookable 11 months ahead through the Florida State Parks reservation system, and the best Keys waterfront sites disappear the moment the window opens. For private parks like Miami Everglades RV Resort or Larry and Penny Thompson, 4-8 weeks ahead is usually enough outside of holidays. Insider tip: set a calendar reminder for 11 months before your desired arrival date for state parks.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2725What are driving conditions like around Princeton, FL?
Driving an RV around Princeton is straightforward compared to most US metros. The area sits on flat coastal terrain with no mountains, no tunnels, and wide roads like US-1, the Florida Turnpike, and Krome Avenue (SR-997) that handle big rigs well. Watch for two things: summer afternoon thunderstorms that can drop visibility quickly (pull over and they typically pass in 20 minutes), and tolls on the Card Sound Road route if you take the scenic way to Key Largo. Avoid downtown Miami in a Class A; use the Turnpike or stay on US-1 south. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, so check the National Hurricane Center before any summer trip.
nhc.noaa.gov/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Princeton, FL?
Most campgrounds within 30 miles of Princeton offer the essentials for a smooth trip. Private parks like Miami Everglades RV Resort and Larry and Penny Thompson Park feature full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer), pools, laundry, Wi-Fi, and on-site dump stations. National park campgrounds at Long Pine Key and Flamingo are more rustic; Long Pine Key has no hookups but offers a dump station and potable water fill, while Flamingo has electric pull-through sites and Florida Bay sunsets. Need to dump or refill between campgrounds? The dump station at Flamingo and the one at Midway Campground in Big Cypress National Preserve are reliable stops along the Tamiami Trail. Bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a 90-degree sewer elbow.
nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/camping.htmWhat is included inside an RV rental in Princeton, FL?
RVezy rentals are typically move-in ready. A typical motorhome rental in Princeton comes with a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, stove, microwave), a private bathroom with shower and toilet, real beds (most rigs sleep 4-7), a roof-mounted air conditioner (essential in South Florida), heating, a dinette, and seatbelted seats for travel. Most listings also include a TV, propane for cooking, fresh water tanks, and a generator or shore-power hookup. Wi-Fi varies; many hosts provide a hotspot or you can tether from your phone (Verizon and T-Mobile have solid coverage everywhere except deep inside the Everglades). Each listing's amenities are clearly shown, so you can pick the campervan rental in Princeton with the features you want.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Princeton%2C%20FloridaWhat add-ons and pickup options are common for an RV rental in Princeton, FL?
Hosts in Princeton offer a great mix of add-ons that turn a motorhome rental into a fully equipped adventure. Popular options include kitchen kits, bedding packages, generators (often included with Class C rigs), bike racks, kayaks, outdoor camp chair sets, and portable grills. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Princeton or nearby Homestead, with most pickups taking 30-60 minutes including the walkthrough. Mileage policies range from 100 miles per day to unlimited, so compare listings if you are planning a long Keys loop. Ask about a late-return grace window if your Key West sunset photos run long. Most hosts are flexible when you communicate ahead.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Princeton%2C%20FloridaHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Princeton, FL?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy at booking with a credit or debit card, and funds are held until your trip starts, so no cash changes hands with the host. A refundable security deposit (typically a few hundred to over a thousand dollars depending on the rig) is placed on your card before pickup and released after the host confirms the RV came back clean and undamaged. To avoid issues, take date-stamped photos and a quick video at pickup and again at drop-off, return with the fuel and propane levels noted on your agreement, and dump tanks if your host requires it. Easy steps, full deposit back, smooth start to your next trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I handle South Florida summer heat in an RV rental in Princeton, FL?
Summer in Princeton is hot (highs around 89-93F with high humidity from June through September), but a well-equipped RV makes it enjoyable, especially for a family RV trip. Book a listing with a strong 13,500-15,000 BTU rooftop air conditioner and reserve campgrounds with 30/50-amp electric hookups so you can run AC all day; Miami Everglades RV Resort and Larry and Penny Thompson Park both offer this. Drive in the cooler morning hours, park in shade when possible, and keep blackout shades drawn on the sunny side. Hydrate constantly and plan Everglades hikes for before 10 a.m. Bonus: summer is the cheapest season to rent an RV in Florida, so your dollar goes much further.
