Saint Augustine Shores camping overview
Saint Augustine Shores is a mainland residential community in St. Johns County, Florida, sitting along the Intracoastal Waterway roughly ten miles south of historic downtown St. Augustine. RV travelers use it as a quieter base for exploring the nation's oldest continuously occupied European-founded city, with easy access to US-1, State Road 312, A1A, and I-95.
Campground options in the immediate area lean toward full-hookup private resorts rather than public campgrounds. Ocean Grove RV Resort and Bryn Mawr Ocean Resort sit directly on the Atlantic on Coastal Highway A1A, while Pepper Tree Luxury RV Resort offers a gated resort format on the mainland side. St. Augustine Beach KOA Holiday and Sun Outdoors St. Augustine round out the closest full-service options.
Nearby Anastasia State Park adds a public alternative with more than 1,600 acres of beaches, tidal marshes, maritime hammocks, and ancient sand dunes along the Atlantic. Together the mix suits families, snowbirds, and short-stop travelers routing along the coast.
Things to do near Saint Augustine Shores
Downtown St. Augustine is the main draw, with the Castillo de San Marcos, St. George Street, the Lightner Museum, and the St. Augustine Lighthouse all within a short drive. Families often pair a history day with the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park and a beach afternoon on Anastasia Island.
At Anastasia State Park, visitors can use four miles of protected shoreline for swimming and beach time, and the on-site Anastasia Watersports concession rents bicycles, kayaks, paddleboards, canoes, and sailboats. The park is regarded as one of the better surf breaks on the east coast of Florida, with room to spread out along the beach.
Fort Mose Historic State Park is a short drive north of downtown, and Fort Matanzas National Monument sits south along A1A. Fishing piers, dolphin cruises from the Municipal Marina, and paddling on the Matanzas River add water-based options.

Late winter and spring are peak RV season on this stretch of coast. Considering temperature, rainfall, daylight, and UV index, the spring months from March through May are generally the most comfortable, with highs climbing from the mid-70s into the mid-80s Fahrenheit and lows from the low 50s into the mid-60s. Snowbird traffic runs January through March, and sites at both private resorts and Anastasia State Park fill months out.
St. Augustine sits in the humid subtropical Cfa zone, where warm temperatures run year-round and the coastal location keeps humidity high with no true dry season. Rainfall days stay fairly steady across the year, with a clear increase during summer.
Late summer and early fall coincide with Atlantic hurricane season and the wettest stretch: September brings the highest rainfall, averaging about 7.5 inches. Travelers in this window should watch NOAA National Hurricane Center advisories and confirm evacuation policies with their campground before arrival.

How to book campgrounds near Saint Augustine Shores
Private RV resorts in the area, including Ocean Grove RV Resort, Pepper Tree Luxury RV Resort, Bryn Mawr Ocean Resort, St. Augustine Beach KOA Holiday, and Sun Outdoors St. Augustine, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Winter and spring stays should be locked in several months ahead, and many oceanfront resorts require minimum stays around holidays.
For the public option, Anastasia State Park uses the Florida State Parks reservation system at reserve.floridastateparks.org or by calling 1-800-326-3521. Florida residents can book up to 11 months in advance, while non-residents can reserve up to 10 months ahead. The 139 sites fill quickly during peak seasons and when events run at the neighboring St. Augustine Amphitheatre, so booking well in advance is recommended.
What to expect on the ground
Most private parks near Saint Augustine Shores offer full hookups with water, sewer, and 30/50-amp electric, plus Wi-Fi, laundry, and pools, with paved or crushed-shell pads. Oceanfront properties along A1A generally have direct beach access; mainland resorts trade the ocean for larger sites and quieter surroundings.
Anastasia State Park runs differently from the resorts. Sites have water and electric hookups but no sewer, with a dump station near the campground exit, plus restrooms, hot showers, and laundry. Sites sit in a wooded coastal hammock and can feel tight for larger rigs, with a 38-foot maximum RV length. Mosquitoes and no-see-ums are active in warm months.
Expect coastal humidity, occasional afternoon thunderstorms in summer, and heavy weekend traffic on A1A during festivals. Pack bug spray, sun protection, and beach gear regardless of season.

Florida does not require a Commercial Driver's License for personal-use recreational vehicles, so even larger Class A motorhomes can be driven on a standard Class E license. To book on RVezy, approved drivers are generally required to be at least 25 years old with a valid driver's license, and ID verification is handled during checkout. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit along with your home license. That's it, no test, no endorsement, no extra paperwork between you and the Bridge of Lions.

Yes, every RV rental in Saint Augustine Shores booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance. During checkout you choose the protection level that fits your trip, and the plan covers accidental damage to the RV based on the tier you select, so you can focus on exploring Anastasia Island instead of worrying about a scratched bumper in an Old Town parking lot. Coverage details, limits, and deductibles are explained on the RVezy protection page before you confirm. Combined with included roadside help for flat tires on A1A or a dead battery at the campground, your Saint Augustine Shores RV trip stays low-stress from pickup to drop-off.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat if I need to cancel my Saint Augustine Shores RV rental?
RVezy applies a standard cancellation policy to every booking, including a short money-back grace period right after you reserve. The refund amount depends on how far ahead of your trip start date you cancel, and the policy is set by RVezy rather than individual hosts. Full details are available in the RVezy Help Center before you confirm, so you can book with confidence for prime Anastasia State Park dates knowing the terms in advance. Pro tip: Florida's Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, so if you are traveling in that window, review the policy and consider booking earlier dates that line up with the drier fall and winter shoulder season.

Ocean Grove RV Resort and St. Augustine RV Resort both have on-site dog parks. November is the driest month of the year here with under 3 inches of rain, making it ideal for beach days and historic walking tours. December through February brings cool nights in the upper 40s to low 50s, perfect sleeping weather with the RV heater on low. Summers (June to August) push into the upper 80s and low 90s with daily afternoon thunderstorms and peak hurricane risk. Pro tip: book a shoulder-season trip in late October to catch warm Atlantic water (still around 75 degrees) without summer crowds.
weather.gov/jax/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay in Saint Augustine Shores?
First time renting an RV? You'll be in great hands. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, water, propane, generator, and dump procedures, and you can message them anytime during your trip. Saint Augustine Shores is a friendly starting point: wide suburban streets, easy access to US-1 and I-95, and most campgrounds within a 20-minute drive. Skip downtown St. Augustine's narrow colonial streets and the Bridge of Lions in anything over 25 feet, instead, park at the Visitor Information Center off Castillo Drive or take the Old Town Trolley. Pro tip: ask your host for a quick parking-lot practice loop before you head out, most are happy to oblige.
visitflorida.com/things-to-do/road-trips/What happens if the RV breaks down during my Saint Augustine Shores trip?
You are never stranded. Every RV rental in Saint Augustine Shores booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan. One call connects you to help for flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing, whether you are at a quiet site at Faver-Dykes State Park or pulled over on A1A near Crescent Beach. Your host is also a direct message or call away for questions specific to their RV, and the RVezy support team is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate at pickup, it speeds up any roadside call by a couple of minutes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Saint Augustine Shores RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy bookings, so a Saint Augustine Shores RV trip can easily extend up I-95 to Savannah (about 180 miles), Charleston (about 290 miles), or further north along the coast. Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and insurance terms, so message the host directly from the listing before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because protection coverage does not extend across that border. Pro tip: popular northbound routes from Saint Augustine Shores include coastal A1A to Amelia Island and the Cumberland Island ferry, or a Lowcountry loop through Brunswick and Savannah, both doable as a 5 to 7 night round trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Saint Augustine Shores RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable in your budget, but it's manageable in Florida. Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), campervans get 16 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Florida gas prices have hovered around $3.00 to $3.30 per gallon recently, slightly below the national average, and there's a Wawa, RaceTrac, or Buc-ee's-style station roughly every 10 miles along I-95 and US-1. For a 5-night loop from Saint Augustine Shores down to the Space Coast and back (about 350 miles), budget $90 to $150 in fuel for most Class C rigs. Pro tip: fill up at the Pilot off Exit 318 before heading south, it's usually 10 to 20 cents cheaper than gas near the historic district.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campsite near Saint Augustine Shores?
Book early, especially for Anastasia State Park, where Florida residents can reserve 11 months ahead and non-residents 10 months ahead through the Florida State Parks reservation system at reserve.floridastateparks.org or 1-800-326-3521. Weekends from October through April sell out within minutes of opening. Private parks like Ocean Grove RV Resort, St. Augustine RV Resort, and Stagecoach RV Park book through their own websites and are easier to snag with 4 to 8 weeks lead time. Pro tip: if Anastasia is full, set a cancellation alert and check midweek mornings, sites open up regularly, and a Tuesday through Thursday stay during shoulder season is one of the best-value RV camping Saint Augustine Shores experiences you'll have.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/anastasia-state-parkWhat are driving conditions like around Saint Augustine Shores?
Driving an RV around Saint Augustine Shores is genuinely easy compared to most Florida cities. The Shores sits on flat coastal terrain with wide US-1 access and a quick I-95 on-ramp at Exit 311 (SR-207). Watch out for the Bridge of Lions and the narrow streets of downtown St. Augustine's colonial district, both better skipped in anything over 25 feet. Summer afternoon thunderstorms (June to September) can dump heavy rain fast, so pull off and wait it out at a gas station rather than driving through standing water. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, watch the forecast. Pro tip: SR-A1A south toward Crescent Beach is the prettiest, lowest-stress scenic drive in the area, no bridges, light traffic, ocean views.

Most have dedicated dump stations available even for day-stop dumping with a small fee. Fresh water fill-up is standard at every site. Many hosts include a generator, outdoor grill, beach chairs, and a Bluetooth speaker. TV and Wi-Fi vary, motorhome rental in Saint Augustine Shores often includes a smart TV, while Wi-Fi typically depends on your phone hotspot. Pro tip: filter for RVs with an outdoor shower, it's a game-changer after a day at St. Augustine Beach or Crescent Beach for rinsing sand off kids and dogs before they climb back in.
nhtsa.gov/equipment/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and pickup options should I expect when I rent an RV in Saint Augustine Shores?
Hosts in Saint Augustine, FL offer plenty of helpful add-ons to customize your trip. visitflorida.com/things-to-do/outdoors-nature/camping/How does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Saint Augustine Shores?
Payment on RVezy is simple and secure. You pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, and your booking total covers the nightly rate, fees, taxes, and your chosen renter protection plan. The refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and is released back to your card after drop-off, assuming no damage or extra cleaning is needed. Never pay a host directly or off-platform, doing so can void your protection. Pro tip: record a quick walk-around video at pickup and drop-off and send it through RVezy messages, it is the single best habit for keeping your full security deposit refund on schedule.
