Campgrounds and RV parks near Sawgrass, FL

The Atlantic coastline is the main draw. Anastasia State Park protects a long stretch of dune-lined beach, with hard-pack sand below the tide line and softer sand under the dunes. The park concession rents kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddle boards, and sailboats for use on a sheltered lagoon off the Intracoastal Waterway. North of Sawgrass, Little Talbot Island State Park sits about 17 miles northeast of Jacksonville on State Road A1A and covers roughly 2,500 acres of largely undeveloped barrier island. The park protects maritime forests, dunes, and salt marshes, and activities include fishing, hiking, swimming, kayaking, and surfing. Across the Bridge of Lions from Anastasia, downtown St. Augustine offers the Castillo de San Marcos, museums, and walkable historic streets. TPC Sawgrass, home of The Players Championship, is within Ponte Vedra Beach for visiting golf fans.

Northeast Florida has a humid subtropical climate with warm, mostly sunny winters and hot, wet summers. Winter and early spring are the most comfortable stretch for RV travel, with mild days, cooler nights, and lower humidity. Florida state park sites in the region fill quickly during this window, especially on weekends and school holidays. Late spring tends to be the driest stretch on this coast, making March through May a strong window for beach camping before summer humidity sets in. Reservations at Anastasia State Park fill quickly year-round, especially for weekend stays. Summer brings heat, humidity, and persistent mosquitoes, while winter offers cooler temperatures with occasional cold snaps. Summer brings daily afternoon thunderstorms and peak heat, but it also lines up with school vacation and warm ocean water. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak activity in late summer and early fall, so travelers should watch tropical forecasts and confirm park status before arrival. Fall cools gradually from October onward and is a quieter time to visit once storm risk fades.

Expect shaded, sandy sites under live oaks and palmettos rather than open, paved pads. At Little Talbot Island, the campground sits among ancient dunes in a maritime hammock of live oaks, American holly, and Southern magnolias, and sites include 20- and 30-amp electricity, fresh water, a fire ring, and a picnic table, with two ADA-accessible bathhouses and hot showers on site. At Anastasia State Park, sites are private and shady with dense scrub screening between them, but many are narrow and can crowd larger RVs. North Beach Camp Resort sits on wooded acreage between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, with full-hookup RV sites shaded by live oaks. Bring mosquito protection, especially in summer, and plan for sandy sites, humid nights, and quiet-hour enforcement at state parks. Cell reception can be spotty on the barrier islands.
