Campgrounds and RV parks near Vero Beach South, FL

Beach access is the main draw. Public beaches line the barrier island east of the city, and Sebastian Inlet State Park to the north offers three miles of beaches plus swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and shelling. The inlet is a well-known saltwater fishing spot, with anglers targeting snook, redfish, bluefish, and Spanish mackerel from the jetties. On the mainland, families can visit McKee Botanical Garden, the Environmental Learning Center, and the Indian River Lagoon for kayaking and manatee viewing. Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge, the first federal refuge in the United States, is nearby and good for birding. St. Sebastian River Preserve State Park offers multi-use trails for hiking, cycling, and horseback riding.

The high season for RV travel runs from roughly November through April, when snowbirds fill private parks and daytime highs sit in the low 70s Fahrenheit. Winter overnight lows typically stay above 50 degrees, and only about ten nights a year drop to 40 degrees or below. Freezes can occur in December, January, or February, but are uncommon. Spring brings warmer weather, migratory shorebirds along the coast, and rising humidity. Late spring and summer are peak sea-turtle-nesting time, with loggerheads and green turtles coming ashore on area beaches, and Sebastian Inlet is known for both nesting activity and world-class surf breaks. Summer is hot, humid, and stormy: highs run into the low 90s Fahrenheit, and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, with the greatest storm risk in August, September, and October. Travelers in that window should track National Hurricane Center advisories and confirm cancellation policies with their campground before arrival.

Expect a mix of long-term snowbird parks and shorter-stay RV resorts. Sites in this area are commonly level and grassy with full hook-ups and 30- or 50-amp electric; many parks include pools, laundry, shuffleboard, and planned activities. Shade varies: some private parks have mature trees, while state-park sites at Sebastian Inlet sit largely in open sun. Rig-size limits matter at the state park. Sebastian Inlet caps rigs at 40 feet, and most sites offer 30-amp electric with water only, with a dump station on site rather than sewer hookups at each site. Private parks generally accommodate larger rigs and slide-outs, but always confirm site length and hook-up type when booking. Pack insect repellent year-round; no-see-ums and mosquitoes can be aggressive, especially during warm months.
