Camping near Waldo, Florida
Waldo sits in north-central Florida along US Highway 301, roughly fifteen miles northeast of Gainesville and about an hour southwest of Jacksonville. The town is best known to travelers for the Waldo Farmers and Flea Market and for its position between Alachua County's springs country and the sandhill lakes of Bradford and Clay counties. RV travelers use it as a low-key base for reaching University of Florida events, springs on the Santa Fe River, and the Ocala National Forest to the south.
Private RV parks cluster along the 301 corridor. Waldo RV Park offers full-hookup sites, laundry, and easy highway access, while nearby Gainesville RV Park caters to longer stays. Keystone Heights RV Resort sits east near the Trail Ridge lakes, Starke/Gainesville NE KOA Holiday serves travelers heading north on 301, and Santa Fe Palms RV Resort provides an option closer to High Springs and the Santa Fe River corridor.
Most properties in the area accept big rigs and offer 30/50-amp service, though site widths vary.
Things to do around Waldo
The area's biggest draw is spring-fed swimming. Ginnie Springs, Poe Springs, Blue Springs, and Ichetucknee Springs all sit within a short drive west and hold water near 72 degrees year-round. Paddlers float the Santa Fe and Ichetucknee rivers, and divers use the Devil's system at Ginnie Springs for cavern training.
Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park, about fifteen miles east near Keystone Heights, has a ravine trail, a swim lake, and a paved bike loop. O'Leno State Park to the northwest features a suspension bridge over the Santa Fe and connects to River Rise Preserve.
In town, the Waldo Farmers and Flea Market runs weekends. Gainesville adds the Florida Museum of Natural History, Kanapaha Botanical Gardens, and University of Florida athletics on game weekends, which fill area campgrounds quickly.

North-central Florida has a long shoulder season that suits RV travel. Late October through April brings warm days, cool nights, and low humidity, which is why snowbirds fill many private parks from January through March. Nights can drop near freezing a few times each winter, so freshwater hoses and tanks need protection on cold snaps.
Spring warms quickly. March and April are dry and comfortable, with wildflowers along sandhill trails and manatee activity still possible at nearby springs early in the season. Reservations at state parks around Gainesville, Keystone Heights, and High Springs are hardest to get during this window.
Summer runs hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms nearly daily from June through August and lightning risk that closes spring parks briefly. Atlantic hurricane season peaks August through October. Fall cools slowly, and late October through November offers some of the driest, most stable weather of the year.

How to book near Waldo
Private parks near Waldo, including Waldo RV Park, Gainesville RV Park, Keystone Heights RV Resort, Starke/Gainesville NE KOA Holiday, and Santa Fe Palms RV Resort, take direct online or phone bookings through the operator sites. Winter months and University of Florida home football weekends sell out earliest, so lock in dates several months ahead for those windows.
For nearby state parks such as Mike Roess Gold Head Branch and O'Leno, reservations go through the Florida State Parks system at reserve.floridastateparks.org. Florida residents may book campsites and cabins up to eleven months in advance, and non-residents up to ten months in advance. New sites become available daily at 8 a.m. Eastern time, and popular sites are often gone within minutes.
Unreserved sites are released to walk-in visitors on a first-come, first-served basis.
What to expect on-site
Private RV parks along the 301 corridor are typically flat, grass-and-gravel properties with mature oak or pine cover. Full hookups, 30/50-amp service, laundry, and Wi-Fi are common. Some sites can be tight for larger rigs parked side by side, and shared power pedestals appear at older parks, so a 50-to-30 adapter is worth carrying.
Expect insects year-round, especially mosquitoes and no-see-ums near ponds and after summer rains. Pack DEET or picaridin repellent and check screens before dusk. Alligators inhabit most freshwater lakes and slow-moving rivers in the region, and pets should be kept leashed near shorelines.
Cell coverage is reliable along US-301 and I-75. State-park sites east of Waldo may have weaker signal, and heavy shade can limit rooftop solar output.
