Campgrounds and RV parks near Waverly, FL

The Kissimmee Chain of Lakes anchors most outdoor plans. Bass fishing, kayaking, and pontoon rentals are the main draws on Lake Kissimmee, Hatchineha, and Lake Pierce, and Cherry Pocket Fish Camp is a common launch point for anglers on Lake Pierce. Lake Kissimmee State Park gives boaters access to 35,000 acres of the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes for bass fishing, pan fishing, and wildlife viewing, and the park has an on-site boat ramp and marina. The park also has about thirteen miles of hiking trails through pine flatwoods and oak hammocks past freshwater marshes near Lake Kissimmee. The park is open 8 a.m. to sunset, 365 days a year, and the Cow Camp living-history site runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays from October 1 to April 30. For rainy days or family days off the water, Legoland Florida is in nearby Winter Haven, Bok Tower Gardens is near Lake Wales, and the Orlando theme parks are within a straightforward drive north.

Late fall through early spring is the prime RV window. From November through April, daytime highs are typically in the 70s Fahrenheit, humidity drops, and mosquitos ease off, which is why snowbird traffic peaks in this stretch and why many private parks fill months ahead. Summer brings hot, humid days with highs in the low 90s and near-daily afternoon thunderstorms. August is the wettest month in the Lake Wales area, receiving an average of 219 mm of precipitation. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with peak activity from mid-August through October, so air conditioning and shaded sites become important during this period. Spring and early fall are shoulder seasons: warmer than winter but generally less crowded than the January-to-March peak. November is the driest month, totaling about 41 mm of rain over seven rainy days. Cool nights are possible in December and January, occasionally dipping into the 40s, so RVers should plan for a light heater on the coldest mornings.

Most private parks near Waverly offer full hookups (water, electric, sewer) on level, often paved or gravel pads, with laundry, a clubhouse, and long-term monthly sites mixed in with nightly stays. Shade varies: some sites sit under mature oaks, others are open pull-throughs suited to larger rigs. At Lake Kissimmee State Park, sixty campsites have electric and water hookups with a dump station nearby, and the camping area sits in an oak hammock that provides shade and a natural buffer for a little seclusion. Maximum recreational vehicle length is 55 feet. Only 30 amp electric service is offered, firewood is available from the park concession Friday through Sunday, and generators are not permitted to run after sunset. Cell service and internet inside the park are limited or unavailable, so downloading maps and reservations ahead of arrival is smart. Expect alligators in and around any Florida lake, keep pets leashed and away from shorelines, and stow food to discourage raccoons.
