Campgrounds near West DeLand
West DeLand sits in western Volusia County, along the St. Johns River corridor between Orlando and Daytona Beach. The area draws RV travelers for its spring-fed rivers, manatee viewing, bass fishing, and access to central Florida's largest state forests and conservation lands.
RV options in the area range from full-hookup riverfront resorts to rustic fish camps. St Johns Marina Resort and Highland Park Fish Camp cater to boaters and anglers working the St. Johns River and Lake Woodruff. Luna Sands Resort offers a full-hookup RV park setting closer to town, while Blue Spring State Park provides a state-run campground steps from the spring run, with 51 sites suitable for RVs up to 40 feet. Nearby Orange City adds additional private RV parks and a supply hub for groceries, fuel, and dump stations.
Most travelers use West DeLand as a base for day trips to Blue Spring, De Leon Springs, Hontoon Island, and Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge, with Daytona Beach roughly forty-five minutes east and Orlando's theme parks about an hour southwest.
Things to do near West DeLand
Blue Spring State Park is the headline attraction. The 73-degree spring run is a winter refuge for Florida manatees, drawing hundreds of animals on cold mornings, and reopens to swimming, snorkeling, and tubing from April 1 through November 14. Kayak and canoe rentals launch from the park, and a narrated cruise runs on the St. Johns River near Hontoon Island State Park.
Anglers fish the St. Johns River and Lake Woodruff for largemouth bass, crappie, and bluegill. Highland Park Fish Camp and St Johns Marina Resort both offer boat launches, guide services, and covered slips.
On land, visitors can hike or bike the Spring-to-Spring Trail, tour historic downtown DeLand, or paddle Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge for alligator and wading-bird sightings.

Winter is peak season. Cool, dry weather draws RV snowbirds from November through March, and Blue Spring's manatee viewing window runs roughly mid-November through March, when the swim area closes and the observation boardwalk becomes the main draw. Campground sites at Blue Spring book to capacity months in advance during this window, and private parks in Orange City fill on weekends.
Spring brings warm days, moderate humidity, and the reopening of the spring run for swimming on April 1. It is the most balanced season for mixed-activity trips.
Summer is hot and wet. August is the wettest month, averaging around 179 mm of rain, and afternoon thunderstorms are near-daily. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak risk from mid-August through October. Fall cools gradually, with lower rainfall and thinning crowds through November, making it a good shoulder window for RV travelers who want quieter campgrounds and comfortable temperatures.

How to book
Blue Spring State Park campsites are reserved through the Florida State Parks reservation system at Reserve.FloridaStateParks.org, which opens bookings up to eleven months ahead. Winter weekends and manatee-season stays are typically claimed the day the window opens, so set a calendar reminder and log in at 8 a.m. Eastern. Note that day-use visitors now also need a separate reservation, though overnight campers are admitted on their camping booking.
Private parks including St Johns Marina Resort, Highland Park Fish Camp, and Luna Sands Resort take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Monthly and seasonal rates are common in winter and often require deposits.
For RV travelers, confirm site length, hookup type (30 versus 50 amp), and rig-height clearances before booking, and ask about pet policies, generator hours, and check-in windows.
What to expect on the ground
Sites near the St. Johns River are shaded by live oaks and cypress, which helps with summer heat but means low branches on some pull-throughs. Cell coverage is generally solid on Verizon and AT&T but drops inside the surrounding state forest, so a signal booster helps for streaming or remote work.
Expect mosquitoes and no-see-ums year-round, worst at dawn and dusk from May through October. Alligators are present in every waterway, including retention ponds, so keep pets leashed and away from shorelines.
Blue Spring's day-use area fills early on winter mornings and warm-weather weekends, and the park frequently reaches capacity and closes the gate. Fuel, propane, groceries, and RV supplies are all available in Orange City and DeLand within a short drive.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near West DeLand, FL
How much does it cost to rent an RV in West DeLand, FL?
RV rental in West DeLand is one of the better values in Central Florida. Travel trailers typically start around $90 to $140 per night, Class C motorhomes range $150 to $250 per night, and larger Class A rigs run $200 to $400 per night. Because hosts set their own prices, you can score a cheap RV rental in West DeLand by booking midweek, traveling in late spring after manatee crowds leave Blue Spring State Park, or during quieter summer months. Add nightly campground fees of roughly $24 at Florida State Parks or $45 to $75 at private resorts. Pro tip: filter for Instant Book listings on RVezy to lock in the best deals before snowbird season ramps up in January.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=West%20DeLand%2C%20FloridaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in West DeLand, FL?
Good news, your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in West DeLand. Florida's standard Class E driver's license covers any recreational vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) up to 26,000 pounds, which includes virtually every motorhome and travel trailer you'll find on RVezy. No Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and no RV endorsement required, even for big Class A coaches used for personal travel. You'll need to be at least 25 years old to book, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the platform during checkout, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home license and you're set for your Florida RV trip.
flhsmv.gov/driver-licenses-id-cards/what-to-bring/What protection comes with my West DeLand RV rental?
Every RV rental in West DeLand booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can explore the St. Johns River and Ocala National Forest with real peace of mind. The protection plan helps cover physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level (not the host) during checkout, picking the option that fits your budget and comfort. While it isn't traditional personal auto insurance, it provides meaningful financial protection so a flat tire on State Road 44 or a scrape backing into a Blue Spring State Park site doesn't derail your vacation. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers carefully at booking, families often choose a higher tier for total relaxation.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my West DeLand RV trip?
Booking is low risk because RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy, and every reservation includes a grace-period window after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. Life happens, hurricane warnings, work conflicts, or a sick kid the night before your Hontoon Island ferry trip, and RVezy's standardized policy keeps cancellation terms simple and consistent across every listing. Because the policy is handled at the platform level, you won't see cancellation terms on individual listings. Pro tip: book early to get the RV you want, then if plans shift, message RVezy support right away to understand your refund options for your West DeLand RV trip.

Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in West DeLand is easy to find, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see dozens of rigs whose owners welcome four-legged passengers. Once you're on the road, you've got fantastic options for furry friends: Blue Spring State Park allows leashed pets in the campground (though not on the spring boardwalk), Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge has dog-friendly trails, and many private parks like St. Johns River Marina and RV Resort have on-site dog areas. Bring proof of vaccinations, a 6-foot leash (required at all Florida State Parks), and plenty of fresh water, central Florida heat is no joke for pups. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees or breed considerations.
floridastateparks.org/learn/pets-florida-state-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campground in West DeLand?
Yes, RV delivery in West DeLand is one of the most popular ways to start a trip. Many local hosts will drive the rig directly to your campsite at Blue Spring State Park, Highland Park Fish Camp, or a nearby private RV resort, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system. This is a game changer if you're first time renting an RV or flying into Orlando International (MCO) about 45 minutes south, since you can skip the stress of driving a big vehicle on I-4. Delivery fees are typically based on distance, often $2 to $4 per mile round trip. Pro tip: filter listings by Delivery on RVezy and message hosts to confirm delivery to your specific campground.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=West%20DeLand%2C%20FloridaHow far can I drive on an RV road trip from West DeLand?

Want a longer haul? The Florida Keys are about 320 miles south, and the panhandle beaches around Destin are 425 miles northwest. DeLand/St. Johns River KOA Holiday provides full hookups, a pool, and Wi-Fi for easy RV camping near West DeLand, and Highland Park Fish Camp is a classic Florida bass-fishing spot with RV sites. floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/blue-spring-state-parkWhen is the best time to take an RV trip to West DeLand?
The best time for RV camping in West DeLand is mid-October through April, when daytime highs settle into the comfortable 70s and low 80s, humidity drops, and rain is minimal. November through March is peak manatee season at Blue Spring State Park, where hundreds of West Indian manatees gather in the 72-degree spring. Spring and fall offer mild temperatures perfect for hiking and birdwatching. Summer (June to September) brings hot, humid days in the low 90s, daily afternoon thunderstorms, and Atlantic hurricane risk, but it's also when you can swim in Blue Spring (typically open for swimming outside of manatee season) and snag better RV pricing. Pro tip: visit in February for ideal weather plus peak manatee viewing.
weather.gov/mlb/climateI've never driven an RV. Will I be okay in West DeLand?
You're going to do great, West DeLand is one of Florida's friendlier launchpads for first time renting an RV. Roads like US-17/92 and State Road 44 are wide, flat, and straight, with none of the mountain grades or tight switchbacks that intimidate newer drivers. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving tips, leveling, hookups, slide-outs, generator use, and the dump station routine, so you won't be guessing. If you're nervous about handling a big rig, choose a Class B campervan or small Class C (under 25 feet) or book delivery so the host parks and sets up at your campground. Pro tip: avoid I-4 through downtown Orlando during weekday rush hour, take SR-417 toll road instead for an easier drive.
fhwa.dot.gov/trafficinfo/What happens if I have RV trouble on the road near West DeLand?
You're covered. Every RVezy booking with a protection plan includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so a dead battery in the Blue Spring parking lot or a flat tire on US-17 is just a phone call away from being handled. The roadside team can dispatch help for tire changes, jump starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing in the Volusia County area. Your host is also a direct resource through the RVezy app for questions about quirky switches or appliance fixes. Pro tip: snap photos of the breaker panel, water heater, and propane shutoff during your walkthrough, having those references on your phone speeds up any troubleshooting call.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my West DeLand RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, most hosts in West DeLand welcome multi-state road trips, so you can comfortably explore Georgia's Golden Isles, head north toward the Smoky Mountains, or chase Gulf Coast beaches in Alabama. Just message the host before booking to confirm your planned route, since some set mileage caps or geographic boundaries. Cross-border travel to Canada is permitted by many hosts with their approval, and RVezy's insurance and protection coverage is valid across the U.S. and Canada. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: popular runs from West DeLand include Savannah, GA (about 5 hours), Charleston, SC (about 7 hours), and New Orleans, LA (about 10 hours).
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much will fuel cost for my West DeLand RV trip?
Florida typically has some of the lowest fuel prices in the Southeast, which keeps your West DeLand RV trip budget friendly. Expect roughly 7 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG) for a gas Class A, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, and 16 to 20 MPG for a Class B campervan or truck-towed travel trailer. With Florida gas averaging around $3.00 to $3.40 per gallon, a 300-mile round trip to Key West in a Class C would run about $90 to $120 in fuel. Several Wawa, RaceTrac, and Buc-ee's locations along I-4 and I-95 have wide pull-through lanes that fit RVs easily. Pro tip: use the GasBuddy app filtered for diesel or large vehicles to find the cheapest stations along your route.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near West DeLand?
Earlier is better, especially for Florida State Parks. Blue Spring State Park accepts reservations up to 11 months in advance through the official Florida State Parks reservation system, and waterfront sites at popular parks sell out within minutes of opening. Same-day reservations can sometimes be booked if you catch a cancellation. Private parks like DeLand/St. Johns River KOA usually have more availability and can often be booked just a few weeks out, even in winter. Pro tip: set a cancellation alert for sold-out sites at Blue Spring or Hontoon Island, cancellations happen often and you'll be notified instantly.
floridastateparks.org/learn/reserve-campsiteWhat are driving conditions like around West DeLand?
Driving conditions around West DeLand are about as easy as Florida gets, the terrain is flat, the elevations max out under 100 feet, and most roads are straight and well-paved. The main routes you'll use are US-17/92, State Road 44, and I-4 connecting to Orlando and Daytona Beach. Watch for sudden afternoon thunderstorms from June through September (pull off if visibility drops), and during fall/winter snowbird months expect heavier traffic on I-4 from December through March. Wildlife crossings are real, deer, alligators near water, and the occasional bear in Ocala National Forest, so drive cautiously after dusk. Pro tip: avoid I-4 between Orlando and Daytona on Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings; cut over to SR-415 or SR-44 for a calmer, more scenic drive.
fl511.com/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near West DeLand?
Most campgrounds near West DeLand are well equipped for a comfortable stay. Florida State Parks like Blue Spring and Hontoon Island offer sites with water, 30/50-amp electric, picnic tables, ground grills, hot-shower bathhouses, and a central dump station (Blue Spring charges $10.65 if you're not a registered camper). Private parks such as DeLand/St. Johns River KOA and St. Johns River Marina and RV Resort go further with full sewer hookups, Wi-Fi, swimming pools, laundry, propane refills, and on-site stores. Potable water fills are available at every campground, and dump stations are easy to find along major routes. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a basic surge protector, Florida's afternoon thunderstorms can spike power, and longer hoses help reach hookups at older sites.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/blue-spring-state-park/experiences-amenitiesWhat features and amenities come inside a West DeLand RV rental?
You'll be impressed by how well-equipped a motorhome rental in West DeLand really is, even on the smaller end. Expect a queen or king bed, a dinette and/or sofa that converts to extra sleeping space, a kitchen with fridge/freezer, propane stove, microwave, and sink, a private bathroom with shower and toilet, roof-mounted air conditioning (essential in Florida), a furnace, and seatbelts for all designated passengers. Many listings include a TV, some have Wi-Fi boosters or hotspots, and larger Class A and Class C rigs come with onboard generators for boondocking. A campervan rental in West DeLand is more compact but still includes a bed, kitchenette, and often a wet bath. Pro tip: filter by sleeps count and bathroom type on RVezy to make sure your rig fits the whole family comfortably.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=West%20DeLand%2C%20FloridaWhat add-ons can I get with my West DeLand RV rental, and how does pickup work?
Hosts on RVezy offer a long list of optional add-ons to make your West DeLand trip smoother: linen and towel packages ($25 to $75), camp chairs and outdoor mats, kitchen kits, generator use ($3 to $5/hour for Class A), bikes, kayaks, beach gear, and propane refills. Many also offer delivery and setup so the rig is waiting and ready at your campground. Pickup is usually at the host's address in or near West DeLand, with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough included so you understand every system. Mileage policies vary, with most hosts including 100 to 150 free miles per night and charging $0.30 to $0.50 per extra mile (some offer unlimited mileage as an add-on). Pro tip: review the add-ons list before booking to estimate your true all-in cost.
visitflorida.com/things-to-do/outdoors-nature/florida-state-parks/How does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in West DeLand?
Payment is handled entirely through the secure RVezy platform, so you'll never hand cash or a check to your host. You pay your trip total at booking with a credit or debit card, and a refundable security deposit is held separately by RVezy before your trip starts. The deposit amount varies based on the RV type and value, and Class A motorhomes generally carry higher deposits than travel trailers or campervans. The deposit is released back to your card after the trip wraps up assuming there's no damage, missing items, or excess mileage/generator hours. Pro tip: take time-stamped photos and a quick video of the RV's exterior, interior, tanks, and mileage at both pickup and drop-off, this simple step protects your deposit and gives both you and the host total clarity.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I handle hot, humid Florida summers in my West DeLand RV rental?
Florida summers are absolutely doable in an RV with a little planning. Every modern RV in West DeLand has roof-mounted air conditioning, but rooftop units need 30-amp or 50-amp shore power to run continuously, so book campsites with electric hookups (Blue Spring State Park and DeLand/St. Johns River KOA both qualify). Park in shade when possible, close blinds during midday, and run the generator early if you're boondocking. Plan outdoor activities like manatee viewing, hiking Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge, and kayaking the St. Johns River for sunrise or after 5 p.m. when temperatures drop from the low 90s. Pro tip: keep a cooler of ice water at the door and check the National Weather Service Melbourne forecast daily, most storms roll through between 2 and 6 p.m.
