Campgrounds and RV parks near West Lealman, FL

Gulf beaches are the main draw. Madeira Beach, Treasure Island, and St. Pete Beach are all within a short drive, and Fort De Soto Park's beaches consistently rank among the best in the country. The Pinellas Trail, a paved rail-trail that runs the length of the county, passes close to West Lealman and links downtown St. Petersburg with coastal communities. The route is suited to walking, jogging, and biking. On-site amenities at the local KOA include family-oriented features such as pickleball, shuffleboard courts, bocce ball, mini golf, and volleyball, plus hot tubs and a heated outdoor pool. Kayaking on Long Bayou, saltwater fishing, and day trips to the Dalí Museum or the St. Pete Pier round out a typical itinerary.

Peak RV season on the Pinellas coast runs from late fall through early spring. The busy stretch begins around Thanksgiving and continues through April, with campers competing for a limited pool of sites. Snowbird traffic is heavy from January through March, and holiday weekends fill fastest. Private parks including the local KOA operate year-round, and January through March brings a steady mix of snowbirds and families. Summer is hot, humid, and wet, with near-daily afternoon thunderstorms and the highest rainfall totals of the year. It is also Atlantic hurricane season, which peaks in August and September. Some coastal campgrounds have been affected by recent storms, and Fort De Soto campground and its beaches, including North Beach, reopened after being closed for several months following Hurricane Milton. Fall shoulder months from late September through November tend to offer the best balance of warm water, thinner crowds, and easier reservations. Fall is often cited as a good time to find a site at Fort De Soto, with pleasant weather for camping, biking, and kayaking, and more waterfront sites available.

West Lealman itself is suburban rather than scenic, so campgrounds function as a base for day trips rather than a destination in themselves. Sites at private parks tend to be close together, paved or gravel, with full hookups and long-term neighbors. Cabin rentals and RV pull-throughs are common at the KOA. Cell service gets mixed reviews, and included WiFi has drawn complaints about reliability. At Fort De Soto, expect a more natural setting but a busier park. It is popular with both locals and travelers, especially on sunny weekends, with heavy traffic along the road to the island during peak times. Daily parking fees apply, a Florida saltwater fishing license is required for most in-park fishing, and the campground has water and electric hookups, a dump station, laundry, and WiFi near the office. Bring bug spray year-round.
