Campgrounds and RV parks near Blue Ridge, GA

The Toccoa River is the centerpiece for recreation. Guests tube and kayak on the lower stretch below the Blue Ridge Dam, and the tailwater fishery is stocked with rainbow and brown trout. Lake Blue Ridge, formed by a TVA dam, is used for boating, paddleboarding, and swimming, with a public boat ramp at the Lake Blue Ridge Recreation Area. Hikers can pick up short trails to Fall Branch Falls or Long Creek Falls, or connect to the Benton MacKaye and Appalachian Trails within a short drive south. The forest also includes the Jake and Bull Mountain Trail System, popular with equestrians, mountain bikers, and hikers. In town, families ride the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway along the Toccoa, and Main Street has restaurants, breweries, and outfitters that rent tubes and shuttle groups to river put-ins.

Summer is the busiest RV season. School vacation, warm river temperatures, and reliable access to tubing outfitters push private parks like Blue Ridge / Toccoa River KOA Holiday and Toccoa Valley Campgrounds to book out weeks ahead for weekends. July and August temperatures usually stay in the high 80s with humidity, and summer nights are cooler and more comfortable. Afternoon thunderstorms are common but usually brief. Fall is the second peak. Leaf season in the North Georgia mountains typically runs from mid-October into early November, and weekends around the peak fill quickly. Weekday arrivals are the easiest way to secure a site during foliage. Spring brings cool nights, wildflowers, and higher stream flows, which is prime timing for trout fishing on the Toccoa tailwater and the wild-trout streams inside the national forest. April is typically the rainiest month of the year. Winter is the quietest stretch. Some roads and campgrounds in the Chattahoochee National Forest have seasonal closures, and higher elevations can see occasional snow or ice, so visitors should check road conditions before arriving.

Roads into the mountains are winding and often narrow. Drivers of longer motorhomes and travel trailers should stick to US-515, GA-5, and the marked routes to each campground rather than trusting a phone's shortest route through forest service roads. Cell coverage drops quickly once out of town. Private parks around Blue Ridge generally offer full hookups, dump stations, showers, and Wi-Fi of varying quality. National forest sites are more basic, with picnic tables, grills, and vault toilets standard, and only select campgrounds offering electric hookups, flush toilets, or showers. Black bears live throughout the area. Campers should be bear aware and keep all food in hard-sided containers or locked inside a vehicle.
