Water dominates the itinerary north of town. Three trails wind through Harrison Bay, ranging from short lakeshore loops to a 4.5-mile multi-use trail along the shoreline, all family-friendly. East of Cohutta, the Cohutta Wilderness carries an extensive network of backcountry trails with creek crossings, climbs, ridge views, and waterfalls. Downtown Chattanooga is roughly a forty-minute drive north and delivers the Tennessee Aquarium, Lookout Mountain, and the Tennessee Riverwalk for a rainy-day plan. Ocoee River whitewater and Fort Mountain State Park are both within an hour for day trips.

At Harrison Bay, expect a busy, active campground rather than a quiet retreat, with lake traffic, a golf course, and multiple day-use areas on site. The campground has 128 RV sites with water and electric hookups and 27 primitive tent-only sites spread across four camping loops. Each area has its own bathhouse with hot showers, one centralized dump station serves RV campers, and a limited number of sites can accommodate rigs up to 65 feet. Bring bug repellent from late spring through early fall, secure food against raccoons and black bears in wilderness-adjacent sites, and check TVA release schedules if paddling area rivers.
