Campgrounds and RV parks near Eton, GA

Eton sits in Murray County at the western edge of the Chattahoochee National Forest, directly below the Cohutta Wilderness and just north of Chatsworth. The location puts RV travelers within a short drive of Fort Mountain State Park, a 4,058-acre mountain park near the Cohutta Wilderness, along with private RV parks in the surrounding foothills. Close-in options include Whitewater RV Park and Adventures Unlimited, both oriented toward river and outdoor recreation, plus Plum Nelly Campground for smaller-rig and tent-friendly stays. Talona Ridge RV Resort, southeast of Eton in the Ellijay area, and GA RV Lot round out the nearby choices for travelers who want full hookups and level pads. Most sites in this corridor sit at elevations between roughly 700 and 2,850 feet, so temperatures and road grades vary noticeably depending on whether campers stay in the valley near Eton or climb toward the ridgeline. Fort Mountain State Park, with its 17-acre lake and network of trails, serves as the anchor public campground for the area.

Public sites at Fort Mountain State Park are handled through the Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites reservation system, which also lists on ReserveAmerica. The campground offers 70 tent, trailer, and RV sites, along with four walk-in tent sites, six covered platform sites, three pioneer sites, and four backcountry sites. Reservations can be made up to 13 months in advance, and peak weekends from April through October often fill early. Private parks near Eton, including Whitewater RV Park, Adventures Unlimited, Plum Nelly Campground, Talona Ridge RV Resort, and GA RV Lot, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Holiday weekends and fall-color weekends see the tightest availability. For dispersed camping on Chattahoochee National Forest land, no reservation is required, but stay limits and Leave No Trace rules apply.
