Coastal Georgia is a shoulder-season destination. Spring from March through May and fall from September through November bring mild days, lower humidity, and the region's most comfortable camping weather, and this is when most private RV parks and state-park campgrounds hit peak occupancy. Sites at Fort McAllister and other coastal parks fill weeks ahead of holiday weekends and spring break, so book early. Summer is hot and wet. Daytime highs regularly sit near 91°F with high humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms are routine. August is typically the wettest month in the region. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak activity in August and September, so RV travelers should keep an eye on tropical forecasts and have a plan to move if a storm approaches the Georgia coast. Winter is the quiet season. Snowbird traffic keeps some parks busy, but private parks around Ludowici generally have more nightly availability from December through February, and freezing nights are only occasional.

The landscape is classic Low Country: flat pine flatwoods, live oaks draped in Spanish moss, tidal creeks, and salt marsh closer to the coast. Campgrounds in the area typically sit on shaded ground under live oaks and pines, with sandy soil underfoot. Expect mosquitoes and no-see-ums, especially at dawn and dusk, and the occasional alligator in freshwater ponds and lakes. Most private parks in Long County offer full hookups, Wi-Fi of varying quality, and dump stations, with the larger properties adding laundry and propane. Cell coverage is generally reliable along US-301 and I-95 but can drop in wooded pockets. US-301 and US-84 run through Ludowici, and I-95 is about 20 miles east.
