Campgrounds and RV parks near Statesboro, GA

The signature nearby outdoor destination is George L. Smith State Park. The park sits on a 412-acre mill pond dotted with many cypress trees, making it a destination for anglers and canoeists, with kayak and canoe rentals and marked paddling trails. Hikers will enjoy the view of the seven mile stretch of trails, and the refurbished Parrish Mill, covered bridge, and dam were built in 1880, a short walk from the campground. The lake is a popular spot for catching bass, bream, crappie, and catfish, and a valid Georgia fishing license is required. In town, families often build a day around Splash in the Boro water park, Georgia Southern University athletics and the campus botanic garden, and the Averitt Center downtown. Savannah's historic district, River Street, and Tybee Island beaches sit within an easy day trip east on US-80 or I-16.

Statesboro features a humid subtropical climate with no dry season, so the shoulder seasons are the most comfortable for RV travel. Spring, from March through May, shows a combination of milder temperatures, less rainfall, and comparatively longer daylight hours, with average highs climbing from the upper 60s to the low 80s. Fall carries similar temperatures with less humidity, and November is the month with the least rainfall in Statesboro, with about 0.75 inches accumulating over roughly 5.8 days. Summer is hot and humid. Temperatures peak in July, with a high near 90°F and a low around 73°F, and afternoon thunderstorms are common. August is the most humid month and receives the most rainfall, with about 2.44 inches over roughly 17.8 days. Full hookups with 50-amp service are the practical minimum for running air conditioning through the day. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November and peaks in August and September, so RV travelers should watch NHC advisories and be ready to relocate inland. Winters are short and cool rather than cold. January is the coldest month, with average highs around 56°F and lows near 40°F. Hard freezes occur but are brief, which is why the corridor draws snowbirds. Most private parks around Statesboro stay open year-round; George L. Smith State Park also operates year-round, though facility hours are shorter in winter.

Private parks near Statesboro tend to be pull-through, big-rig friendly, and set on level grass or gravel with full hookups, 30/50-amp service, laundry, and bathhouses, and most welcome pets. Cell service is generally reliable across the area, and park Wi-Fi is common but variable. At George L. Smith State Park, sites offer water and 50 amp service, with no sewer, and a dump station is on site. The campground is small, with about 25 sites featuring electric and water plus a fire ring, lantern hook, and picnic table, along with 8 cottages and four primitive campsites, and most sites have a water view. Alligators live in the pond, so keep pets leashed and children close to the water's edge. Mosquitoes, ticks, and biting flies are active from spring through fall. Bring repellent, expect thunderstorm afternoons in summer, and plan for humidity even on cooler days.
