Camping near Trenton, Georgia
Trenton sits in the northwest corner of Georgia in Dade County, tucked between Lookout Mountain and Sand Mountain in the southern Appalachian foothills. The town is roughly a half-hour drive from downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee, which makes it a practical RV base for exploring both the Cumberland Plateau canyon country and the urban attractions along the Tennessee River.
The anchor destination for campers is Cloudland Canyon State Park, located on the western edge of Lookout Mountain, with elevation ranging from 800 to 1,980 feet. The West Rim and East Rim campgrounds inside Cloudland Canyon are the closest developed sites, followed by private parks north of the state line near Chattanooga.
RV renters typically choose between full-hookup private resorts and the state park loops. Cloudland Canyon accommodates larger rigs and offers electric and water service, while properties like Lookout Mountain / Chattanooga West KOA Holiday, Hales Bar Marina and Resort, and Raccoon Mountain Caverns & Campground add pull-through sites, sewer connections, and pool amenities.
Things to do around Trenton
Hiking is the headline activity. Cloudland Canyon features a deep gorge cut by Sitton Gulch Creek, with waterfalls, sandstone cliffs, and hemlock-shaded pools. The Waterfalls Trail, West Rim Loop, and Sitton Gulch route cover the signature views.
Beyond hiking, the park supports a wide range of pursuits. Mountain biking is available at the Five Points Recreation Area and along the Cloudland Connector Trail, and the park also offers disc golf, a fishing pond, trails for horseback riding, picnicking, and overlooks.
Day trips are easy. Raccoon Mountain Caverns & Campground offers guided cave tours a short drive north, and Chattanooga adds the Tennessee Aquarium, Lookout Mountain attractions like Ruby Falls and Rock City, and boating access on Nickajack Lake near Hales Bar Marina and Resort.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in this region. March through May brings wildflower blooms, full waterfall flow, and mild afternoons, with frequent rain across the season. Booking pressure climbs sharply once school breaks begin, and Cloudland Canyon fills its most popular loops on weekends well in advance.
Summer is warm and humid with afternoon thunderstorms common. Trail traffic peaks, and shaded canyon rim sites are the most sought-after. Rainfall stays substantial through the warm months, so RV renters should plan for hookups if they want reliable air conditioning on humid afternoons.
Fall delivers the year's best combination of comfortable temperatures, lower rainfall, and hardwood color across Lookout Mountain, typically peaking in late October. Winter is the quiet season with occasional freezes and light snow possible, and December tends to be the wettest month of the year. Reservations at Cloudland Canyon are open year-round and can be made up to 13 months in advance, so cold-weather trips are feasible for self-contained rigs.
How to book campgrounds near Trenton
State park sites at Cloudland Canyon, including the West Rim and East Rim loops, are reserved through the Georgia State Parks system. Reservations can be made up to 13 months in advance, and up to 14 months in advance for Georgia residents. Campsites are strongly recommended due to the park's popularity, and a daily ParkPass is required for park entry.
Private campgrounds each use their own booking channels. Lookout Mountain / Chattanooga West KOA Holiday books through the KOA site or app, Hales Bar Marina and Resort takes reservations directly, and Raccoon Mountain Caverns & Campground handles bookings through its own website.
For peak weekends in April, May, October, and any federal holiday, secure a site several months out. Midweek and winter stays are usually available on shorter notice.
What to expect on-site
Sites vary widely across the local options. Cloudland Canyon's West Rim and East Rim loops offer paved or gravel pads with electric and water, restrooms, and hot showers, set among hardwoods with some canyon-view sites. Cell service can be spotty inside the park.
Private parks lean toward full-hookup convenience. Raccoon Mountain Caverns & Campground accommodates a range of RV sizes with pull-through sites, 30 and 50-amp electric hookups, and full sewer connections, plus a swimming pool, playground, laundry, a dump station, and a general store. Hales Bar Marina adds waterfront sites on the Tennessee River.
Expect winding two-lane approaches on Lookout Mountain routes, and confirm rig-length limits when booking longer motorhomes or fifth wheels.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Trenton, GA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Trenton, GA?
RV rental in Trenton is one of the most affordable ways to experience Lookout Mountain and Cloudland Canyon. On RVezy, you typically find travel trailers starting around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes between $175 and $275 per night, and larger Class A rigs from $250 and up. Because Trenton sits in Dade County, a smaller market than nearby Chattanooga, nightly rates often run lower than crossing the state line. For a cheap RV rental in Trenton, book mid-week stays in March or November, filter for towable trailers, and watch for hosts offering weekly discounts. Many listings also include extras like camp chairs or outdoor mats, which adds real value.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Trenton%2C%20GeorgiaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Trenton, GA?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Trenton, GA. Georgia does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for personal motorhomes or travel trailers, no matter the size class on the RVezy platform. You'll just need to be at least 25 years old with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID quickly through the booking process. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP), which you can get from your home country's auto club for about $20. That's it, no DMV trip, no test, no waiting period before you hit Highway 11 toward Cloudland Canyon.
dds.georgia.gov/license-typesIs RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included?
Yes, every RV rental in Trenton booked through RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head into the Cumberland Plateau with confidence. The protection plan covers accidental damage to the RV, and you choose your level of coverage at checkout based on how much peace of mind you want. Roadside assistance covers flat tires, lockouts, jump-starts, fuel delivery, and towing, which matters when you are winding up Sand Mountain or heading toward Chattanooga. Hosts do not pick your coverage, you do, so you stay in control of your trip's protection.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat if I need to cancel my Trenton RV rental?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy, not the host, sets the cancellation policy that applies to every reservation. There is a money-back grace period right after booking, with additional flexibility depending on how far ahead of your trip you cancel. North Georgia occasionally sees winter ice storms or summer thunderstorms rolling across Lookout Mountain, and RVezy's policies are designed with situations like that in mind. Cancellation rules are consistent platform-wide rather than varying listing by listing. If your plans shift, contact RVezy support through the Help Center and they will walk you through your options.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Trenton?
Yes, a pet-friendly RV rental in Trenton is easy to find on RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you will see listings where dogs (and sometimes cats) are welcome. Dade County is a great area to travel with pets because Cloudland Canyon State Park allows leashed dogs on most trails, including the Overlook Trail and the West Rim Loop. The nearby Lookout Mountain/Chattanooga West KOA also welcomes pets. Tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and ask about any breed or size limits. Bring a long lead, plenty of water, and booties if you are hiking sandstone in summer, the rock heats up fast.
gastateparks.org/CloudlandCanyonCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Trenton?
Yes, RV delivery in Trenton is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters. Many local hosts will tow a travel trailer or fifth wheel straight to your site at Cloudland Canyon State Park, the Lookout Mountain/Chattanooga West KOA, or a private property, then level it, hook up water and 30/50-amp electric, and walk you through every system. That means you skip the stress of towing up Highway 136's switchbacks and arrive to a fully set-up camp. Use the Delivery filter on the search page and check the host's delivery radius and per-mile fee. It is the easiest way to enjoy a Trenton RV trip without ever getting behind the wheel of the rig.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Trenton%2C%20GeorgiaHow far can I drive my RV rental from Trenton?
You have incredible range from Trenton, and many RVezy hosts offer generous mileage policies, including some with unlimited mileage. From Trenton you can reach Chattanooga, TN in about 30 minutes (around 25 miles), Atlanta in roughly 2 hours (about 120 miles), Huntsville, AL in just over 1.5 hours (about 90 miles), Nashville in about 2.5 hours (around 140 miles), and Great Smoky Mountains National Park in about 3 hours (about 165 miles). Each listing clearly shows the daily mileage allowance and the per-mile fee beyond it. For a longer RV road trip from Trenton, filter for hosts with higher included mileage or unlimited mileage and you will save real money.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Trenton%2C%20GeorgiaWhat are the best campgrounds near Trenton, GA for RVs?
The best campgrounds near Trenton, GA cover everything from state-park serenity to full-hookup resorts. Top picks include: Cloudland Canyon State Park (West Rim and East Rim loops, 72 sites with water and 30/50-amp electric, dump station on site); Lookout Mountain/Chattanooga West KOA in Trenton (84 shaded sites, full hookups, pool, dog park, Wi-Fi); James H. "Sloppy" Floyd State Park about 35 minutes south (lakeside sites with hookups); Raccoon Mountain RV Park across the line in Chattanooga (full hookups, cave tours on site); and Best Holiday Trav-L-Park in Chattanooga. Cloudland Canyon books up fast for fall color weekends, so reserve through the Georgia State Parks site 4 to 6 months out if you can.
gastateparks.org/CloudlandCanyonWhen is the best time of year to take an RV trip in Trenton?
Trenton is great for RV camping nearly year-round thanks to its mild Cumberland Plateau climate. The sweet spots are April through early June (highs in the 70s, wildflowers blooming in Cloudland Canyon) and mid-September through early November (crisp days in the 60s and 70s, fall color on Lookout Mountain). Summer brings warm 85 to 90 F days and afternoon thunderstorms, great for waterfall hikes but plan for AC. Winters are cool with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s and occasional freezes, ideal for off-season deals if your RV has a heated water tank. Late October at Cloudland Canyon delivers some of the most photographed fall foliage in Georgia, so book early.
weather.gov/mrx/I have never rented an RV before. Will I know what to do?
You will be in great hands. RVezy hosts are real people who love their rigs and want your trip to go well. Every booking includes a hands-on orientation at pickup, or at delivery if your host brings the RV to you, where they show you how to operate the propane, slide-outs, generator, water systems, awning, and dump valves. Most walkthroughs take 30 to 60 minutes, and many hosts send a video tour ahead of time so nothing feels new on day one. First time renting an RV near Trenton? Pick a smaller Class C or a travel trailer delivered to Cloudland Canyon State Park, that way your only job is to enjoy Hemlock Falls. Hosts are reachable by message throughout your trip too.
rvezy.com/first-time-rentersWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV on my trip?
You are covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you are parked at Cloudland Canyon or rolling down I-59 toward Chattanooga. Roadside covers flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified service location. For non-emergency issues like a finicky water pump or a tripped breaker, message your host directly, they know their RV best and usually respond fast. RVezy customer support is also available before, during, and after your trip through the Help Center. Trenton's location near US-11 and I-59 means most service shops in Chattanooga are within easy reach.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Trenton RV rental into Tennessee, Alabama, or other states?
Yes, multi-state road trips are one of the best things about an RV rental in Trenton. Trenton sits in the corner where Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama meet, so within an hour you can cross into all three. Most RVezy hosts allow interstate travel throughout the continental U.S., just confirm in the listing or send a quick message before booking. Popular routes include Trenton to Chattanooga and the Great Smokies, Trenton through Huntsville to the Gulf Coast, and Trenton up toward Nashville. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Cross-border travel into Canada may be possible on a case-by-case basis, message the host to confirm.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much fuel will I use on a Trenton RV trip?
Budgeting fuel is easier than you'd think. Travel trailers don't burn extra gas of their own (just your tow vehicle, typically 10-14 MPG when towing), campervans average 18-22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get 8-12 MPG, and big Class A rigs average 6-10 MPG. Gas prices in Dade County usually run a few cents below the national average, with stations in Trenton along US-11 and at the I-59 exits being the most convenient. For a 3-day, 200-mile loop through Cloudland Canyon and Chattanooga in a Class C, plan on roughly $80 to $120 in fuel. Pro tip: fuel up in Trenton before heading up the mountain, prices spike at the tourist-area stations near Lookout Mountain attractions.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Trenton?
For Cloudland Canyon State Park, book as early as you can, Georgia State Parks accepts reservations up to 13 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and the West Rim and East Rim RV loops fill up months ahead for spring weekends, summer holidays, and October leaf-peeping season. For Lookout Mountain/Chattanooga West KOA in Trenton, 2 to 3 months ahead is usually safe outside peak weekends. Private parks like Raccoon Mountain often have more last-minute availability. Insider tip: if Cloudland is sold out, set a cancellation alert through a tool like Campnab, sites open up regularly. Once your campsite is locked in, then book your RV on RVezy, that order saves headaches.
gastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the driving conditions like around Trenton?
Driving an RV around Trenton is very manageable once you know the local terrain. I-59 runs right through town with wide lanes and gentle grades, perfect for big rigs heading to Chattanooga or Birmingham. Highway 136 climbing up to Cloudland Canyon has a couple of steep, curvy sections, take it slow in low gear, especially descending. Sand Mountain (Highway 11) is scenic but narrow in spots. Avoid the tight back roads on top of Lookout Mountain in anything over 25 feet. Weather-wise, watch for morning fog in the valley and ice on the mountain roads in January-February. Pro tip: use the engine brake or downshift descending Highway 136, riding the brakes on a long downhill is the most common mistake first-timers make.

exploregeorgia.org/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through RVezy with a credit card at booking, never directly to the host. Your charge covers the nightly rate, RVezy service fee, your chosen protection plan, taxes, and any add-ons you have selected. A refundable security deposit, commonly $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV class, is placed as a hold on your card a few days before pickup and released after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back clean, undamaged, and with the agreed fuel and tank levels. To avoid any deposit issues on your Trenton RV trip, do a quick walkaround video at pickup and drop-off, follow the host's dump and refuel instructions, and communicate early if anything comes up.
