Campgrounds near Franklin, Idaho
Franklin sits at the north end of Cache Valley just above the Utah state line, roughly a 20-minute drive from Logan and about 90 miles south of Pocatello. The town is Idaho's oldest permanent settlement and functions as a quiet rural base for RV travelers exploring the Bear River watershed, the Cache National Forest, and the hot-springs country along the Idaho-Utah border.
RV options in the immediate area cover a range of styles. Cub River Lodge Guest Ranch and RV Park offers a canyon setting east of town, Bear River Hot Springs and Belmont Hot Springs RV Park and Resort combine camping with soaking pools, and Traveland RV Park provides a straightforward highway-adjacent stop for travelers moving through the corridor.
Just across the state line, Hyrum State Park adds a reservoir-based campground within about a 25-mile drive, giving visitors access to boating, fishing, and swimming in addition to the small-town amenities and farm country around Franklin itself.
Things to do near Franklin
The Cub River drainage east of town leads into Cache National Forest with hiking, trout fishing, and access to forest roads climbing into the Bear River Range. Cub River Lodge Guest Ranch and RV Park sits along that corridor and makes a practical launching point for canyon day trips.
Hot-spring soaking is a defining feature of the area. Both Bear River Hot Springs and Belmont Hot Springs RV Park and Resort operate developed pools fed by natural geothermal water, and Belmont also offers scuba diving in a warm-water source pond.
At Hyrum State Park, Hyrum Reservoir supports waterskiing, paddling, swimming, and year-round fishing for bass, trout, perch, and bluegill. Logan is about 15 minutes from the reservoir and adds groceries, restaurants, and cultural stops such as the American West Heritage Center.

Summer is the primary RV season. From mid-June through August, daytime highs sit in the low 80s Fahrenheit, canyon roads are clear, reservoir water warms up for swimming, and all local campgrounds are fully open. Weekends and holidays fill quickly at Hyrum State Park, where individual campsites are on the Utah State Parks reservation system through ReserveAmerica on a four-month rolling booking window.
Spring and fall are shoulder seasons. May and September bring cooler nights, lighter crowds, and good fishing, though snowmelt can leave higher canyon trails muddy into June. Fall color in the Bear River Range typically peaks in late September and early October.
Winter shifts the area toward snow country. Traditional flush restrooms at Hyrum State Park are winterized while a dry restroom remains available, and many private RV parks reduce services or close seasonally. Hot springs stay open year-round and are a popular cold-weather draw.
How to book
Hyrum State Park uses the Utah State Parks reservation system through ReserveAmerica. Individual campsites open on a four-month rolling window, bookable online any time or by phone with the reservation call center on weekdays, and reservations must be placed at least two days in advance. Inside that two-day window, campsites are available first-come, first-served with a self-pay envelope at the entrance.
Private parks in the Franklin area, including Cub River Lodge Guest Ranch and RV Park, Bear River Hot Springs, Traveland RV Park, and Belmont Hot Springs RV Park and Resort, are booked directly through each property. For summer weekends and holiday periods, reserve several weeks ahead. Cancellation windows and deposit rules vary by park, so confirm terms at the time of booking.
What to expect
Franklin is a small agricultural town, so expect quiet nights, limited retail, and farm smells on warm days. Fuel, groceries, and larger supply runs are easier in Preston, Idaho to the north or Logan, Utah to the south.
Sites vary widely by property. Hyrum State Park has paved, level sites with a mix of partial hookups and standard sites, plus cabins and yurts near the reservoir. Private RV parks in the area typically include full hookups, and the hot-springs resorts add pool access as part of the stay.
Elevations sit around 4,500 feet, so nights run cool even in mid-summer. Cell coverage is generally reliable in town and near the reservoir but weakens quickly once you head up Cub River Canyon or into the surrounding forest.

May and late September are fantastic shoulder seasons with smaller crowds, lower rates, and crisp days in the 60s.
