Campgrounds and RV parks near Andalusia, IL

The Mississippi River drives most trip planning. Boat ramps and courtesy docks at Fairport State Recreation Area give direct access to the main channel, and anglers pair the river with the nearby Fairport Fish Hatchery. The Quad Cities add museums, riverfront trails, and casino stops within a short drive of Andalusia. Hikers head to Wildcat Den State Park for sandstone bluffs and formations such as Steamboat Rock and the Devil's Punch Bowl, plus the 19th-century Pine Creek Grist Mill built by Benjamin Nye in 1848 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Families with kids often stay at Rock Island / Quad Cities KOA Holiday or Haven Hills Campground & Resort for pools, splash pads, mini golf, and jump pads on site.

The main camping season on both sides of the river runs from spring through late fall. Fairport State Recreation Area closes for winter and reopens in mid-March, with water services typically resuming in early May. Wildcat Den State Park's campground stays open year-round, with a peak reservation season of May 1 through October 15 and off-peak shoulder weeks in April and the second half of October. From November 1 through March 31, Wildcat Den is walk-in only and no reservations are taken. Spring can bring high water on the Mississippi that affects low-lying riverside sites. Late summer and early fall generally offer the most reliable river access and the busiest weekends. Peak color on the sandstone bluff trails at Wildcat Den lands in October. Winter camping is limited to private, year-round parks such as Rock Island / Quad Cities KOA Holiday and the primitive walk-in season at Wildcat Den. Pools, splash pads, and seasonal activities close from late fall through spring, and freezing temperatures can affect water hookups.

Private parks near Andalusia lean full-service. Rock Island / Quad Cities KOA Holiday has full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, pull-through sites, on-site RV repair by appointment, LP, and a dump station, plus a heated outdoor pool, spray park, and 50-acre lake for fishing and paddling. Interstate RV Park offers full-hookup pull-throughs sized for larger rigs, with I-80 noise close by. Haven Hills sits on former golf-course terrain with modern bathhouses and paved paths. Iowa DNR sites are simpler. Fairport has 42 electric sites with modern showers, a dump station, and boat ramps, but expect train noise from the adjacent line. Wildcat Den has 28 non-modern sites with water hydrants and vault toilets, no showers, and no electric hookups, better suited to tents and small trailers than large motorhomes.
