Campgrounds and RV parks near Bloomfield, IN

Water dominates the local activity mix. Shakamak State Park has three man-made lakes covering 400 acres for fishing, paddling, and small-motor boating, plus a family aquatic center and boat rentals. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Lake Monroe sits near Monroe Lake, Indiana's largest inland lake, which offers multiple boat ramps and quiet paddling coves suitable for canoes and kayaks. Hikers can string together loops at Shakamak through oak forest and lakeshore, or head to McCormick's Creek State Park for the waterfall and the CCC-era fire tower along the trail segments south of the creek that have reopened. Off-park attractions include downtown Bloomington, Indiana University's campus, and Brown County scenery about thirty minutes from Lake Monroe.

Late spring through early fall is the practical RV season. May and June bring wildflowers, full waterfalls at McCormick's Creek, and long daylight hours, but they are also among the wettest months of the year in this part of Indiana. Expect frequent afternoon thunderstorms and soft ground at primitive sites. July and August are peak family season. Pools, water features, and lake activities are fully staffed at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Lake Monroe, and demand at Shakamak State Park runs high on weekends and holidays. Heat and humidity are the trade-off, with dew points regularly in the mid-60s Fahrenheit. September and October cool off quickly and deliver the region's clearest skies and strongest fall color, especially in the wooded loops at Shakamak. Winter camping is possible at Shakamak, which lists year-round status, but many activity amenities close, water is typically turned off from November through mid-March, and snow or ice can affect travel. Confirm hours and pool schedules directly with each campground before booking.

State-park loops at Shakamak are largely wooded, with about two-thirds of campsites shaded by hardwoods. Sites include electric, non-electric, and a smaller full-hookup section, plus reservable cabins and cottages. Shower houses, a camp store, and a nature center are on site. Note that possession of alcohol is restricted at Indiana state parks and enforced by DNR staff. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Lake Monroe runs as a family resort with pull-through and back-in RV sites offering 30 and 50 amp hookups, and amenities include pools, a water play area, a jumping pillow, and character visits.
