Campgrounds and RV parks near Beaverdale, IA

Lake Geode is the main draw for anglers and paddlers, with shoreline fishing for largemouth bass, crappie, and sunfish, plus no-wake boating and several miles of hiking trails that circle the lake. Rock hounds visit the park for its namesake geodes, which are on display at the park office but cannot be collected inside park boundaries. The Mississippi River corridor at Delabar State Park and Big River State Forest offers river fishing, boat launches, and quiet wooded trails, including the short Big Pines and Lincoln hiking trails. Burlington itself provides a historic riverfront, Snake Alley, and local museums, while the Southeast Iowa Bike Route links Geode State Park with Lacey-Keosauqua State Park to the west.

The camping season in this part of southeast Iowa runs primarily from spring through late fall. Geode State Park accepts campground reservations from April 1 through December 14 and closes from December 15 through March 31, so winter RV camping inside the state park is not available. Delabar State Park and Big River State Forest in Illinois both operate seasonal campgrounds, with the main camping window running roughly April through October and reduced services outside that period. Late spring and early summer bring the greenest scenery but also the wettest weather, with May and June typically the rainiest months. July and August are the busiest for family camping, with holiday weekends filling quickly at Geode. September and October offer cooler nights, lower humidity, and strong fall color through the oak and hickory woods, and are widely considered the most comfortable stretch for RV travel in the region. Private parks such as Duck Haven RV Campground and Crossroads RV Park generally have longer operating seasons than the state sites.

Geode State Park has both electric and non-electric sites, two modern shower buildings, and a sewage dump station, with roads that are hard-packed with loose gravel and pull-throughs that can accommodate larger rigs. Delabar State Park offers electric hookups, drinking water, a sanitary station, and a jet pump for filling trailers, with sites tucked among mature oaks. Big River State Forest camping is more rustic, centered on the Shady Pines area with tent and trailer sites, vault toilets, and water and dump facilities but no hookups at individual sites. Cell service is spotty at the state sites, particularly at Big River. Ticks and mosquitoes are common in wooded and riverside areas from late spring through early fall, so campers should plan accordingly.
