Campgrounds and RV parks near Boyden, IA

Boyden sits in Sioux County in far northwest Iowa, within roughly an hour of camping options across three states: Iowa, South Dakota, and Minnesota. RV travelers using Boyden as a base typically look toward the Big Sioux River corridor to the west and the Coteau des Prairies escarpment to the north for developed campgrounds with hookups, showers, and dump stations. The closest full-service public campground is Olson Park & Campground in Sioux City, a municipal park along the Missouri River that suits larger rigs staging for longer trips. Blue Mounds State Park near Luverne, Minnesota, and Newton Hills State Park south of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, are the two nearest state parks and both offer electric sites, showers, and dump stations. For travelers who prefer lodging plus RV parking or a backup indoor room for guests, Gate City Lodging provides a nearby option. The mix of municipal, state park, and private facilities makes the Boyden area workable for weekend trips as well as longer regional loops through the tri-state corner.

Each park in the Boyden orbit uses its own state reservation system, so plan by park rather than by a single portal. Blue Mounds campsites and tipis are reserved through the Minnesota state parks reservation site, which opens bookings up to 120 days before arrival and also accepts same-day reservations. A Minnesota state park vehicle permit is required in addition to the camping fee and can be purchased in advance or on arrival. Newton Hills State Park, including its Main campground and Horse Camp, is booked through the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks reservation system on a 90-day rolling window, and a park entrance license is required for all vehicles. Olson Park & Campground is managed by the City of Sioux City and takes reservations directly. Gate City Lodging is a private property and should be booked directly with the operator. Popular summer weekends often fill the day the window opens, so mark the calendar.
