The closest full-service private option is Shady Oaks RV Campground, located a quarter mile north of Highway 30 and three miles east of Marshalltown. Shady Oaks is reputed to be the first cabin camp west of the Mississippi River on the Lincoln Highway and is the oldest privately owned campground in Iowa, in continuous operation at the same location since 1925. The camping season in the Le Grand area runs roughly April through October, tracking Iowa's warm months. Shady Oaks RV Campground operates seasonally from April through October in Marshalltown, Iowa. At Union Grove State Park, the schedule is stricter: the campground is closed each year from November 1 through March 31, and when open it is 100 percent reservable, accepting reservations April 1 through October 31 until 10:00 pm CST the day of arrival.
Shoulder-season campers should plan around utilities. Modern shower buildings, water hydrants, and the dump station at Union Grove are seasonal and can be closed outside the main camping window, so early April and late October visits may face limited facilities. Vault toilets typically remain available when modern facilities are shut down.
Summer weekends and holiday windows fill quickly, especially at the state-park cabins and full-hookup sites, so booking well ahead of Memorial Day through Labor Day is recommended.

Great experience! The RV was spotless and very comfortable! Everything worked as expected and it made my weekend camping trip very relaxing to have the RV delivered, setup, and ready to enjoy when I arrived. Koby was very responsive and easy to communicate with. I will be renting from him again in the future.

Jerry exceeded our expectations with the delivery and set up of our camper. He was there early with the ac on and cold water in the fridge! He explained how to use everything inside and out, from the stove, water supply, propane, extra supplies and even provided extra treats and a fresh flower bouquet! He was easy to communicate with, knowledgeable about the campground and even checked in later in our stay to make sure we didn’t need anything. We’ll definitely be renting again from Jerry in the near future!! Thank you again for making our long getaway weekend so enjoyable!
