Campgrounds near Mount Pleasant, Iowa
Mount Pleasant sits in Henry County in southeast Iowa, roughly a half hour west of Burlington and the Mississippi River. The area suits RV travelers looking for a mix of state-park lakes, event-style campgrounds, and small municipal parks within a short drive of town.
Options closest to the city include Updog RV and Camping, Midwest Old Threshers Campground on the grounds of the Midwest Old Settlers and Threshers Association, and Crossroads RV Park. Midwest Old Threshers offers full and partial hookup RV camping on a 60-acre site and serves as home base for the annual Old Threshers Reunion held over Labor Day weekend.
For a lake-and-woods trip, Geode State Park lies southeast of town near Danville, with the 187-acre Lake Geode as the centerpiece for fishing, paddling, and hiking. Farther south, Indian Lake Park in Farmington adds a 44-acre no-wake lake, a swimming beach, cabins, and full-hookup RV sites within a 177-acre city-owned park.
Things to do near Mount Pleasant
At Geode State Park, Lake Geode anchors the recreation menu with shoreline and boat fishing for largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and channel catfish, plus paddling under no-wake regulations and a trail system that circles the lake. Rock hounds visit for the state rock, though geode collecting within park boundaries is not permitted.
Indian Lake Park offers a two-mile nature interpretive trail around its 44-acre lake, a roped-off swimming area, and kayak and canoe rentals. The same trail doubles as a cross-country ski route in winter.
In town, the Midwest Old Threshers grounds host the Midwest Electric Railway, a volunteer-run standard-gauge trolley line that operates a 2.5-mile loop around the campground, most actively during the five days leading into Labor Day.

The primary camping season in this part of Iowa runs from spring through late fall. Geode State Park's campground accepts reservations from April 1 through December 14 and closes December 15 through March 31, so winter RV camping is not an option there. Indian Lake Park is generally open with closed dates roughly December 20 through March 19.
Late August through Labor Day is the single busiest window in Mount Pleasant. The Midwest Old Threshers Reunion has been held annually since 1950 and draws thousands of visitors to a city of under 10,000 residents. Sites at the Midwest Old Threshers Campground fill early for that stretch, and reserved sites for the reunion typically open to the public in February by phone.
Spring brings the wettest weather and occasional severe thunderstorms, with May often the single wettest month. Fall offers cooler nights, lower crowds, and generally reliable trail conditions before park closures begin.
How to book
Iowa state park sites, including those at Geode State Park, are handled through the Iowa State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica. The Geode campground is fully reservable and accepts bookings up to 10:00 pm CST on the day of arrival during its open season, with both electric and non-electric sites available.
Indian Lake Park in Farmington takes reservations directly through the city, with online booking available through RoverPass. Check-in is at the park office, which staffs typical daytime hours and does not accept reservations after 5:00 pm.
Midwest Old Threshers Campground handles Reunion-week reservations by phone, with reserved sites opening to the public in February for the following Labor Day event. Outside Reunion week, contact the campground directly to confirm availability and hookup type before arrival.
What to expect on site
Facilities in the area range from basic to well-equipped. Geode State Park has both electric and non-electric campsites, two modern shower buildings, a sewage dump station, and accessible pads and restrooms. Sites use hardpack gravel and include some full-hookup options alongside more primitive spots.
Midwest Old Threshers Campground provides 30-amp and 50-amp electric sites without full services, two on-site dump stations, showers, and restrooms. Water hydrants are shared and located 50 to 200 feet from many sites, so a long hose is worth packing.
Indian Lake Park offers full hookup, water-and-electric, electric-only, and primitive tent sites, plus rustic cabins. Most sites are shaded and level, and the bathhouse includes showers and modern restrooms.

traveliowa.com/cities/mount-pleasant/74/What license do I need to rent an RV in Mount Pleasant, Iowa?
Your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Iowa does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal motorhomes or travel trailers, even the big Class A coaches. You'll need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and the platform handles ID verification digitally before pickup, so there's no extra paperwork at the host's driveway. Visiting from outside the US? An International Driving Permit (IDP) paired with your home license keeps things smooth. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the Iowa process is compared to what they expected.
iowadot.gov/mvd/driverslicense/driver-licenses-and-idsIs RV insurance and roadside assistance included with my booking?
Yes, every RV rental in Mount Pleasant booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance. The protection plan helps cover damage to the vehicle during your trip, so you do not need to chase down a separate policy. You choose your coverage level at checkout (not the host), so you can match it to your trip, whether it is a weekend at Lake Geode State Park or a longer Iowa loop. If a tire blows on Highway 34 or the battery dies at a campground, one call gets help dispatched. Book with confidence knowing the safety net is already in place.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat if I need to cancel my Mount Pleasant RV rental?
Plans change, and RVezy makes it low-risk to book your Mount Pleasant RV trip. RVezy sets the cancellation policy across the platform (not individual hosts), and refund amounts depend on how far you are from your trip start date. If a host cancels, guests receive a refund or travel credits. If something unexpected comes up, contact RVezy support and they will walk you through your options. That flexibility means you can lock in your Old Threshers Reunion dates with confidence.

Mount Pleasant is a dog-friendly town, with leashed pets allowed on the Midwest Old Threshers campground, the trails at nearby Oakland Mills Park along the Skunk River, and the wide-open spaces at Lake Geode State Park about 20 minutes north. The Reunion show grounds themselves restrict pets during event days, so plan campground-based downtime for your dog. Pro tip: pack a tie-out stake and a collapsible water bowl for hot Iowa afternoons.

Many hosts will drive the RV directly to McMillan Park, Lake Geode State Park, or a private address, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. That means zero stress about towing or maneuvering a 30-foot rig through town during festival traffic. Delivery fees commonly range from $2 to $4 per mile from the host's location. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see which listings offer it, and message the host to confirm your exact drop-off spot.

weather.gov/dvn/climateI've never rented an RV before. What should I expect at pickup?
First time renting an RV? You are in great hands in Mount Pleasant. Your host will spend 30 to 60 minutes walking you through every system: the water heater, propane, slide-outs, leveling, generator, holding tanks, and how to dump. They will show you the tow connection if it is a trailer and answer every question you have, no matter how basic. Many Mount Pleasant hosts also send a video walkthrough ahead of your trip so nothing is a surprise. You can message your host anytime through the RVezy app during your trip too. The rural roads around Henry County are wide, flat, and lightly trafficked, making them a great practice ground before heading out.

You are about 12 miles from the Illinois border and 30 miles from Missouri, and a popular RV road trip from Mount Pleasant heads east into Nauvoo and south to Hannibal, Missouri. Cross-border travel into Canada depends on the host and the protection coverage, so message the host before booking if that is the plan. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection do not extend there. For most renters, the real fun is closer to home anyway: Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, and Wisconsin are all within a comfortable day's drive.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Mount Pleasant RV trip?
Iowa fuel prices are some of the friendliest in the country, which keeps your RV trip budget reasonable. Expect regular unleaded around $3.00 to $3.40 per gallon and diesel around $3.40 to $3.80 in the Mount Pleasant area, often 20 to 40 cents below the national average. Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class B campervans hit 16 to 20, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. For a 300-mile weekend loop in a Class C, budget roughly $90 to $120 in fuel. Driving an RV around Mount Pleasant is genuinely easy. Highway 34 (the main east-west route) and Highway 218 (north-south) are wide, well-maintained, and lightly trafficked compared to interstate driving. The terrain is gently rolling Iowa farmland with no mountain passes, tight switchbacks, or low clearance tunnels to worry about. Watch for farm equipment on rural roads in spring and fall, deer at dawn and dusk especially near Geode and Shimek forests, and severe thunderstorms in late spring that can drop visibility fast. Downtown Mount Pleasant's square has tight parking, so park larger RVs at McMillan Park or your campground and drive into town with a tow vehicle.
