Campgrounds and RV parks near Rockwell, IA

Rockwell sits in Cerro Gordo County in north-central Iowa, about a fifteen-minute drive south of Mason City and within easy reach of several lakeside state parks. The area is flat farm country crossed by the West Fork of the Cedar River, with clusters of shallow prairie lakes to the north and low, wooded ridges to the south. Most RV travelers use Rockwell as a quiet base for touring the Clear Lake area and the surrounding lakes of Cerro Gordo and Franklin counties. Campground options range from small private RV parks such as Corn Patch Corner Campground / RV Park and Oakwood RV Park to full-service state park campgrounds at Clear Lake State Park, Mcintosh Woods State Park, and Beeds Lake State Park. State park sites are managed by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and include electric and non-electric sites, modern restrooms, showers, and sanitary dump stations. Distances are short. Clear Lake and Mcintosh Woods sit on opposite shores of Clear Lake to the northwest, while Beeds Lake is roughly a half-hour drive southwest near Hampton in Franklin County.

Iowa state park campsites at Beeds Lake, Clear Lake, and Mcintosh Woods are one hundred percent reservable up to three months in advance through the Iowa DNR reservation portal at iowastateparks.reserveamerica.com. Campsites can be reserved three months in advance up to four days prior to arrival, so trips need to be planned on that rolling window rather than a full year out. Lodges and shelters, including facilities at Beeds Lake, can be reserved up to twelve months in advance, with a four-day cutoff before arrival in peak season and seven days in the off season. Private parks such as Corn Patch Corner Campground / RV Park and Oakwood RV Park handle bookings directly by phone or through their own websites and often accept shorter-notice reservations, which is useful when state park loops are full on summer weekends.
