Campgrounds near Springville, Iowa
Springville sits in Linn County in eastern Iowa, within short driving distance of the Cedar River corridor and several Iowa DNR state parks. RV renters typically base a trip here to reach Palisades-Kepler State Park, roughly ten minutes south along the Cedar River near Mount Vernon, and Wapsipinicon State Park to the north near Anamosa. Both parks offer electric and non-electric sites managed under the Iowa state park reservation system.
Additional options nearby include Cedar Valley Grove Campground for private-park amenities, and the primitive sites at Lake Macbride State Park for renters who want a quieter, no-hookup experience within a larger recreation area. Scales Pointe Camping and Boating adds a lake-oriented alternative with water access.
Most campgrounds in this part of Iowa cluster near rivers, reservoirs, and hardwood-forested bluffs. Trip planning revolves around the standard Iowa DNR three-month reservation window, weekend demand from Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, and a camping season that runs roughly April through mid-November at most state parks in the region.
Things to do near Springville
Palisades-Kepler State Park has about five miles of trails through hardwood forest and along dramatic Cedar River bluffs, plus a boat ramp used for fishing channel catfish, bass, and walleye. Anglers also fish from shore near the old dam. A historic limestone lodge and picnic shelters built by the Civilian Conservation Corps are popular for family gatherings.
Wapsipinicon State Park offers river paddling, limestone caves such as Ice Cave and Horse Thief Cave, and a nine-hole golf course maintained by the Wapsipinicon Country Club within the park. Lake Macbride draws boaters, swimmers, and paddlers to its reservoir. Cedar Valley Grove and Scales Pointe give families a base for day trips to Cedar Rapids attractions, the Amana Colonies, and Ushers Ferry Historic Village.

Late spring brings wildflower blooms along the Cedar River bluffs and cool, wet weather, with May typically the wettest month. Summer is peak season: warm, humid days, frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and the highest booking pressure driven by weekenders from Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. Two-night minimums apply on weekends from May 1 through October 31, and three-night stays are required on holiday weekends.
September and October are often the most comfortable months for RV travel in eastern Iowa, with mild days, cool nights, fall color in the hardwoods, and lower demand. From November 1 through March 31 most Iowa state park campsites shift to walk-in only, with water shut off and limited services.
How to book near Springville
State-park campgrounds at Palisades-Kepler, Wapsipinicon, and Lake Macbride are reserved through the Iowa DNR reservation system, operated by ReserveAmerica at iowastateparks.reserveamerica.com. Campsites open up to three months ahead of the arrival date, and same-day reservations are accepted until 10:00 pm Central time. From November 1 through March 31 most campsites revert to walk-in only.
Private campgrounds like Cedar Valley Grove Campground and Scales Pointe Camping and Boating handle their own reservations directly, typically by phone or through their own websites. Cabins at Palisades-Kepler are booked separately from campsites and often carry weekly rental minimums during the peak season, so RV renters looking for flexible weekend arrivals should focus on the standard campsite loops.
What to expect at campgrounds
Iowa state park campgrounds in this area offer a mix of electric sites with 20/30/50-amp service and non-electric sites, along with modern restrooms, showers, and a trailer dump station. Palisades-Kepler has 44 campsites, 26 with electrical hookups, and is 100 percent reservable. Sites tend to be shaded, and larger rigs should review campground maps for length limits before booking.
Cell coverage is generally reliable near Springville but can drop inside river valleys and wooded loops. Emerald ash borer has been confirmed statewide, so campers should buy firewood locally rather than transporting it. Fires are only allowed in provided grills.
