Campgrounds and RV parks near West Liberty, IA

West Liberty sits in Muscatine County in eastern Iowa, roughly midway between Iowa City and the Mississippi River at Muscatine. The area gives RV travellers access to two distinct camping landscapes: the wooded reservoir country around Lake Macbride to the northwest, and the Mississippi River corridor to the east. Close-in private options such as Hidden River Campgrounds, Cedar River Campground, and Cedar Valley Grove Campground serve travellers who want hookup sites and easy highway access. For state-run camping, the Primitive area at Lake Macbride State Park offers shaded, wooded sites in the southern unit, while Fairport State Recreation Area places RVs directly on the Mississippi with electric hookups. The region works well as a base for shorter loops. Iowa City, the University of Iowa, the Amana Colonies, and the Quad Cities are all within a comfortable day trip, and county roads through Muscatine and Johnson counties stay flat and manageable for larger rigs.

Iowa state park sites, including Lake Macbride and Fairport, are booked through the Iowa State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica. Reservations open up to 3 months in advance and can be made up to 10:00 pm Central on the day of arrival. Lake Macbride is 100 percent reservable with no walk-up sites, and Fairport is likewise 100 percent reservable during its open season. Maximum stay at Iowa state park campgrounds is 14 nights, check-in is at 4:00 pm, and check-out is at 3:00 pm. For private campgrounds in the West Liberty area such as Hidden River Campgrounds, Cedar River Campground, and Cedar Valley Grove Campground, book directly with the operator, ideally several weeks out for summer weekends and holidays.
