Campgrounds and RV parks near Zearing, IA

Zearing sits in Story County in central Iowa, about a dozen miles northeast of Nevada and within easy driving distance of both Ames and the Des Moines metro. The town itself is small, so RV travelers typically use it as a base for exploring the Iowa River valley to the north and the attractions around greater Des Moines to the south. The closest destination camping is at Pine Lake State Park near Eldora, one of Iowa's earliest state parks, with a wooded campground on the Iowa River. Rock-n-Row Adventures Iowa River Tubing adds a river-focused option in the same corridor, while Shady Oaks RV Campground sits near Marshalltown along the historic Lincoln Highway. For RVers heading toward Des Moines, Griff's Valley View RV Park and Campground and Adventureland Campground in Altoona both put families within minutes of amusement parks, casinos, outlet shopping, and the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Together, these options cover state-park scenery to the north and full-hookup resort camping to the south.

Pine Lake State Park uses the Iowa DNR reservation system through iowastateparks.reserveamerica.com. The campground is fully reservable, and campsites can be booked up to three months in advance of the arrival date. Cabins and lodges at Pine Lake can be reserved up to twelve months ahead and carry additional deposit and stay requirements, including a Friday-to-Friday week-long minimum during the peak summer season. Private parks handle bookings independently. Adventureland Campground and Griff's Valley View RV Park and Campground accept reservations through their own websites and by phone. Shady Oaks RV Campground is small, so calling ahead is recommended. Rock-n-Row Adventures books tubing trips and on-site camping directly. For summer weekends and holidays, reserve state park sites and Altoona-area campgrounds several weeks out.
