Campgrounds and RV parks near Arma, KS

Fishing and boating are the main draws at Farlington Lake inside Crawford State Park, where Rocky Cove and Oak Point campgrounds put anglers close to the water for channel catfish, crappie, and striped bass. Lake Frances is a stocked private lake where no fishing license is required, which makes it a straightforward choice for families with kids. Hikers and wildlife watchers can drive west to Prairie State Park, where about 14 miles of trails cross tallgrass prairie grazed by a bison herd and where the Regal Tallgrass Prairie Nature Center runs interpretive programs and guided bison saunters. Kids at Lake Frances have access to a small swimming pool, paddle boat, playground equipment, and a fish cleaning station on site. Cabins, a swimming beach, a marina restaurant, and multiple boat ramps at Crawford State Park round out day-use options for RV families.

Peak camping season runs from late spring through early fall. Summers are hot and humid, with August highs commonly near 90 degrees, which matters at Prairie State Park because its sites have no hookups, no showerhouse, and no running water. Book electric or 50-amp/water sites at Crawford State Park early if traveling in June, July, or over holiday weekends, when four-night minimums apply for Memorial Day and Labor Day. Spring is the wettest stretch, with May typically the wettest month locally. Storms can be strong, and the creek crossing into Prairie State Park's campground can become impassable after heavy rain. Wildflowers are strong from late spring into early summer, and Prairie Jubilee, the park's premiere event, is held on the last Saturday in September of even-numbered years. Fall brings mild days, cooler nights, and lower humidity, which is one of the more comfortable windows for RV travel. Winters are short but cold and occasionally snowy; Crawford State Park's rental cabins stay open year-round, while most tent and RV traffic drops off sharply.

Crawford State Park is the most developed option in the area, with six campgrounds, five deluxe rental cabins, two boat ramps, three bathhouses, a dump station, and a mix of primitive, electric-only, 30-amp/water, and 50-amp/water sites. Many pads are hardened and level concrete with mature overstory shade. After 14 consecutive nights at one campground, guests must relocate to a different campground within the park. Lake Frances offers full hookups with 30-amp and 50-amp service and level gravel pads, and it works well for larger rigs, with a stated maximum RV length well over 100 feet. Mission RV Park is a smaller, utility-focused stop. At Prairie State Park, expect a primitive experience: no hookups, no running water at the sites, a vault toilet, free-roaming bison, ticks in warmer months, and gravel access roads. Dogs are not allowed on most prairie trails because of the bison.
