Campgrounds and RV parks near Hanson, KY

Hanson sits in Hopkins County in western Kentucky, a few miles north of Madisonville along the Pennyrile Parkway. The area is rural and wooded, with rolling farmland, small lakes, and easy access to the Green River corridor. RV travelers use Hanson as a low-traffic base for exploring western Kentucky without dealing with big-city drives. Most campgrounds within an easy tow are privately run parks built around fishing lakes or river frontage. Horseshoe Acres Campground sits just off Highway 70 near Bremen, and Livermore RV Park lies to the northeast along the Green River. Diamond Lake Resort and Diamond Lake Resort Campground add resort-style amenities closer to Owensboro, while Windy Hollow Campground RV Park lies further north toward the Ohio River bottomlands. For a public-land alternative, Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park is roughly a half-hour south. The park is set within a large forest, with a 56-acre lake, non-motorized boat rentals, and miles of hiking trails through the woods. That combination gives travelers a mix of full-hookup private parks and a forested state-park campground within a short drive of Hanson.

Private parks handle their own reservations by phone or website. Horseshoe Acres Campground, Diamond Lake Resort, Diamond Lake Resort Campground, Livermore RV Park, and Windy Hollow Campground RV Park each take direct bookings, and holiday weekends at the lake resorts often sell out well in advance. Calling ahead is the most reliable way to confirm rig length, hookup type, and pet rules. Kentucky State Parks campgrounds, including Pennyrile Forest, are booked through the state's ReserveAmerica portal. Reservations must be made at least one day ahead of arrival and can be placed up to 12 months in advance. Sites can hold a maximum of 8 occupants, with four adults plus children 16 and under included in the base rate. Some sites are held for first-come, first-served walk-ins.
