Campgrounds and RV parks near Maysville, KY

Historic downtown Maysville offers riverfront walking, floodwall murals, and small museums covering the town's steamboat and abolition-era history. The Kentucky Gateway Museum Center and the nearby National Underground Railroad Museum are practical rainy-day stops for families. Outdoor activity centers on the Ohio River, the Licking River corridor, and inland lakes. Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park adds a museum documenting the battle's history, hiking trails, a playground, volleyball courts, miniature golf, picnic facilities, and a boat ramp on the Licking River. The Licking River Trail provides a one-mile hike along the riverbank, a manageable loop for younger kids. Anglers head to the Ohio River and to Cave Run Lake to the south for bass, muskie, and catfish. Cyclists and drivers can string together covered bridges, distilleries, and horse farms on day loops through Mason, Bracken, and Fleming counties.

The practical RV season runs from spring through fall. Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park accepts reservations through mid-November, and water hookups are not available from October 31 through March 15 due to seasonal winterization. Kentucky State Parks cannot guarantee the availability of water or other resources at their campgrounds during inclement weather months when freezing temperatures are possible, so travelers should contact the park directly for available resources if traveling during months conducive to freezing temperatures. Late April through June brings mild days, wildflowers, and green woods, but also the wettest stretch of the year, with saturated ground and occasional thunderstorms. Summer is hot and humid, with peak family demand around Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day weekends. September and October usually deliver the most comfortable camping weather, with cool nights, drier air, and fall color across the Licking River valley. Winter camping is possible at a few private grounds, but expect no water service at most public sites and limited on-site staff.

Expect a mix of shaded and open sites on gently rolling terrain. Blue Licks features 55 total sites: 49 standard electric sites equipped with water and 30-amp electric hookups, and 6 primitive tent-only sites, with sites back-in only and maximum equipment lengths ranging from 32 to 54 feet. A central service building provides flush restrooms and showers, and an RV dump station is available. Extension cords up to 50 feet may be needed for electrical hookups, and campers should bring additional water hoses as connections may require up to 50 feet of hose. Road noise affects some areas of the campground, particularly sites closer to the main route. Cell coverage is generally usable near town and along US-68 but can drop in river valleys. Grocery, propane, and fuel stops are easy in Maysville, Flemingsburg, and Carlisle.
