Campgrounds and RV parks near Eunice, LA

Downtown Eunice is compact and walkable. The Prairie Acadian Cultural Center, managed by the National Park Service as part of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve, features exhibits interpreting the culture of the Acadians who settled the prairies of southwest Louisiana, with folklife demonstrations that include foodways presentations, Cajun music, dancing, quilting and handmade crafts. The Liberty Theater, a 1924 vaudeville house on Park Avenue, has hosted the Saturday-night Rendez-vous des Cajuns Cajun and zydeco radio and TV show since 1987, though visitors should confirm current status as the venue has undergone renovation work. Saturday mornings feature a long-running Cajun jam session at Savoy Music Center, the accordion shop east of town. The Cajun Music Hall of Fame and Museum and the Eunice Depot Museum round out the in-town stops. For outdoor time, Chicot State Park is about 25 minutes east. Recreation includes boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, biking, hiking and wildlife viewing, with strong fishing on Lake Chicot and up to 20 miles of trails.

Spring and fall are the practical windows for RV travel in south-central Louisiana. Days are warm rather than hot, humidity is more manageable than in summer, and prairie wildflowers appear across the surrounding fields. Mardi Gras season, including the traditional Courir de Mardi Gras run, draws heavy crowds to Eunice in late winter, so book early if that weekend matters. Summer is long, hot, and humid. Afternoon thunderstorms are common across the Gulf Coast, and late summer is typically the wettest and hottest stretch. Sites at Chicot State Park stay open, but shaded pull-throughs and hookup capacity for air conditioning become the priority. Hurricane season runs June through November, peaking in late summer and early fall. Louisiana receives abundant precipitation throughout the year, with annual totals ranging from around 50 inches in the north to around 70 inches at some locations in the southeast. Winter is mild by North-American standards and generally suitable for snowbird stays, though cold fronts bring brief freezes and occasional heavy rain.

Roads into Eunice are flat and easy to tow, with US-190 and LA-13 serving as the main approaches. Grocery stores, fuel, propane, and RV supplies are available in town or a short drive away in Opelousas and Ville Platte. Private parks near Eunice tend to be smaller, level, full-hookup properties oriented toward practical overnight and extended stays rather than resort amenities. Expect gravel or grass pads, standard 30/50-amp service where noted, and quiet surroundings. At Chicot State Park, sites are wooded and rolling. The park has 198 pet-friendly campsites with water and electric hookups across the North Landing and South Landing campgrounds, with amenities including hot showers, picnic tables, a boat launch, a dump station, fire grills, docks, and fishing piers. Mosquitoes and biting flies are active from spring through fall, so pack repellent.
